ततः स्विष्टकृते दद्याद्बलिं दद्यादनुक्रमात्
Then, for the sviṣṭakṛt offering, one should give bali in the prescribed order.
यवक्षीरं दिगीशेभ्यो ह्यन्येभ्यः पायसेन तु
Barley mixed with milk should be offered to the guardians of the directions, and to others with rice pudding.
अनंतस्योत्तरे तीरे पद्मपत्रं परिस्तरेत्
On the northern bank of the Ananta, one should spread a lotus leaf.
कुर्यात्पूर्वद्वयेनापि बाणरत्तिसुवर्णकैः
One should perform the ritual as before, using arrows, red cloth, and gold coins.
वरुणं विन्यसेत्तत्र तथा पुष्करिणीमपि
There, one should install Varuna and also a lotus pond.
ॐ अद्येत्यादि विष्णुरूपाय करुणाय श्रुतिरत्याद्युक्तवेदव्याससप्रणीताग्निष्टोमफलप्राप्तये पुष्करिणीप्रतिष्ठाकर्मणि इमां पुष्करिणीं सुवर्णराजतां स्वगृह्योदितां सालंकारां सुपूजिताममुकगोत्रः अमुकदेवशर्मा तुभ्यमहं संप्रददे ॐ अद्येत्यादि ब्राह्मणमुख्येभ्यः ममाग्निष्टोमाद्यनेकफलप्राप्तये इमं जलाशयं वरुणदैवतं सुपूजितं चतुर्मुखसहितं चतुःसत्त्वावच्छिन्नस्नानपानाद्युपभोगाय अमुकसगोत्रः अमुकदेवशर्माहमुत्सृजे जलाशयस्य मध्यं तु ऋत्विग्घोमं चरेत्ततः ।। 2.3.4.
Reciting 'Om adya' and other mantras for the form of Vishnu and compassion, as prescribed by the Vedas and Vyasa, for the attainment of the fruit of the Agniṣṭoma sacrifice, in the ritual of establishing the lotus pond, I, of such-and-such gotra and named such-and-such Deva Sharma, offer this lotus pond of gold and silver, adorned and well-worshipped, as prescribed in my household tradition. Reciting 'Om adya' and other mantras, for the attainment of many fruits including Agniṣṭoma, I, of such-and-such gotra and named such-and-such Deva Sharma, relinquish this water reservoir, dedicated to Varuna, well-worshipped, together with the four-faced one, for the use of bathing, drinking, and other purposes, restricted to four beings. In the middle of the reservoir, the officiating priest should then perform the Soma ritual.
पूर्वावस्थायिनीं यष्टिं समारोप्य विधानतः पुष्करिण्यासमं तेन नागयष्ट्यंतरे क्षिपेत्
Placing the staff that was previously set up according to the procedure, one should throw it between the lotus pond and the naga staff.
तत्रैवानंतनागं च मंत्रमेतदुदीरयेद् फणासहस्रसंयुक्त सुप्रतिष्ठ नमोऽस्तु ते
There, for the Ananta naga, one should recite this mantra: 'Endowed with a thousand hoods, well established, salutations to you.'
दक्षिणां च ततो दद्यात्ततः पूर्णां विधाय च
Then, having made it complete, one should give the prescribed gift.
पद्मोत्पलं च शैवालं मंत्रमेव प्रयत्नतः
With care, one should use a lotus, a blue lotus, and śaivāla grass, along with the mantra.
आदित्याध्यायकं जप्त्वा क्षिपेल्लाजकपर्दकान्
Having recited the chapter of the Sun, one should cast grains of rice with husks.
सूत्रेण वेष्टयेत्प्राज्ञो रक्तेन च चतुष्क्रमात्
The wise should wrap it with a thread, four times, using a red one.
सरोवरादिप्रतिष्ठाविधानवर्णनम् विधिं वक्ष्ये सहाङ्गेन विधानं शृणुत द्विजाः
I shall describe the procedure for the establishment of a lake and similar works; listen to the method, O twice-born.
स्वर्णपादेन मानेन पूर्वेद्युरधिवास येत्
On the previous day, one should perform the preliminary rites with a golden vessel as the measure.
स्वमण्डले शुभे स्थाने विशेत्पूर्वमुखेन तु
In one's own circle, at an auspicious place, one should enter facing east.
वागीशं च तथा विष्णुं सूर्ये कुंभे समर्चयेत्
There, one should worship Vāgīśa and Viṣṇu, and the Sun in a water pot.
एकैकामाहुतिं दद्यादन्येषां च स्रुवेण च
One should offer a single oblation for each, and for the others, with the ladle.
यूपं निवेशयेत्पश्चाद्दद्याद्धेनुं च दक्षिणाम्
Afterwards, one should set up the sacrificial post and give a cow as the prescribed gift.
आरामस्य विधिं वक्ष्ये प्रतिष्ठाविधिविस्तरम्
I shall explain the procedure for a garden, the detailed method of establishment.
अरण्यमध्ये पाश्चात्ये उत्तरे वा विशेषतः
Especially, it should be in the middle of a forest, to the west or to the north.
तद्दक्षिणे भवेत्कुंडं चतुरस्रं समं शुभम्
To the south of that, there should be a fire-pit, square, level, and auspicious.
मंदरादिकमावाह्य ततः संपूजयेत्क्रमात् 2.3.5.
Having invoked Mandara and the others, one should then worship them in order.
भृगुं कर्णसमारूढं सर्वभूषणभूषितम्
Bhṛgu, adorned with all ornaments, should be visualized as seated at the ear.
द्वारपालं च संपूर्णं गौर्यादीन्कलशेषु च
The complete doorkeeper and Gauri and others should be established in the pots.
नैर्ऋत्यवरुणयोर्मध्ये अनंतं प्रतिपूजयेत्
Between the quarters of Nairṛta and Varuṇa, one should especially worship Ananta.
वेदिपार्श्वे ततो गत्वा वेदिमावाह्य पूजयेत्
Then, going to the side of the altar, one should invoke and worship the altar.
ऐशाने कलशे विद्युद्ब्रह्माणं च तथा ग्रहान्
In the vessel at the northeast, place lightning, Brahma, and likewise the planets.
मडलेशं वासुदेवं सासनं च बृहस्पतिम्
In the drum, place Vāsudeva, the command, and Bṛhaspati.
द्विभुजं वासुदेवं च शंख चक्रधरं विभुम्
Vāsudeva is two-armed, the lord bearing the conch and discus.
नीलोत्पलदलाभासं हरिचंदनचर्चितम्
He shines like the petals of a blue lotus, adorned with sandal paste.
