कुंभे विनायकं पूज्य ब्रह्माणं च परे घटम्
He should worship Vinayaka in the pot, and Brahma in another vessel.
मंडले शिवमभ्यर्च्य पीठपूजापुरःसरम्
In the mandala, having first worshipped the seat, he should worship Shiva.
द्विभुजं शूलहस्तं च सर्वाभरणसंयुतम्
He should worship the two-armed form, holding a trident, adorned with all ornaments.
ततोर्घ्यपात्रं कृत्वा तु पीठपूजां समाचरेत्
Then, having prepared the vessel for the offering, he should perform the worship of the seat.
मध्ये आधारशक्तिं च कूर्मानंतौ सपद्मकौ
In the center, the supporting power, the tortoise, and the two lotuses should be placed.
पुनः पात्रांतरस्थं च गृहीत्वा कुसुमं बुधः 2.3.4.
Again, the wise one should take a flower placed inside another vessel.
पूर्ववच्च विधानेन दद्यात्पात्रादिकं त्रयम्
As before, according to the procedure, he should offer the three vessels and the like.
मुद्रां प्रदर्श्य विधिवदंगपूजां समाचरेत्
Displaying the gestures as prescribed, he should perform the worship of the limbs.
अनंतं पुरतश्चैव तेषामस्त्राणि तद्बहिः
In front, the endless one, and outside them, their weapons.
भूस्तत्त्वं च भुवस्तत्वं स्वस्तत्त्वादि च तत्त्वकम्
The principle of earth, the principle of atmosphere, and the principle of heaven, and so on, should be established.
विनायकं च विष्णुं च गङ्गां पृथिविषष्टिकम्
One should worship Vinayaka, Vishnu, Ganga, and the six forms of the Earth.
षोडशेनोपचारेण पूजयेच्च विशेषतः
One should especially worship them with sixteen kinds of offerings.
पंचकृष्णालकैः कुर्याद्बृहत्पर्वप्रमाणकम्
With five black locks of hair, one should prepare a large offering according to the measure of the festival.
पूजयेत्परया भक्त्या अग्निकार्यमथाचरेत्
One should worship with supreme devotion and then perform the fire ritual.
तिलाक्षतैर्वा आज्यैर्वा त्रिमध्वक्तैरथापि वा
Using sesame seeds, uncooked rice, clarified butter, or three kinds of honey and ghee, as desired.
एकैकामाहुतिं दद्यात्पुष्पैस्तिलघृतेन च ।। 2.3.4.
One should offer a single oblation each time, with flowers and sesame mixed with ghee.
अष्टावष्टौ च जुहुयाद्घृतैरेकाहुतिर्भवेत
One should make eight or sixteen offerings with ghee, with each being a single oblation.
एकाहुतिं ततो दद्यादापोहिष्ठेति वा त्रिभिः
After that, one should offer a single oblation with the mantra 'āpohiṣṭa', using three recitations.
इमं वरुण इति वा तद्वरोमा ऋचा पुनः
Or with the mantra 'imaṃ varuṇa', or again with the verse 'tad varoma'.
वातस्ययमिति पुनः पञ्चवर्णं यथाक्रमात्
Again, with the mantra 'vātasyayam', and then with five syllables in proper sequence.
ततः स्विष्टकृते दद्याद्बलिं दद्यादनुक्रमात्
Then, for the sviṣṭakṛt offering, one should give bali in the prescribed order.
यवक्षीरं दिगीशेभ्यो ह्यन्येभ्यः पायसेन तु
Barley mixed with milk should be offered to the guardians of the directions, and to others with rice pudding.
अनंतस्योत्तरे तीरे पद्मपत्रं परिस्तरेत्
On the northern bank of the Ananta, one should spread a lotus leaf.
कुर्यात्पूर्वद्वयेनापि बाणरत्तिसुवर्णकैः
One should perform the ritual as before, using arrows, red cloth, and gold coins.
वरुणं विन्यसेत्तत्र तथा पुष्करिणीमपि
There, one should install Varuna and also a lotus pond.
ॐ अद्येत्यादि विष्णुरूपाय करुणाय श्रुतिरत्याद्युक्तवेदव्याससप्रणीताग्निष्टोमफलप्राप्तये पुष्करिणीप्रतिष्ठाकर्मणि इमां पुष्करिणीं सुवर्णराजतां स्वगृह्योदितां सालंकारां सुपूजिताममुकगोत्रः अमुकदेवशर्मा तुभ्यमहं संप्रददे ॐ अद्येत्यादि ब्राह्मणमुख्येभ्यः ममाग्निष्टोमाद्यनेकफलप्राप्तये इमं जलाशयं वरुणदैवतं सुपूजितं चतुर्मुखसहितं चतुःसत्त्वावच्छिन्नस्नानपानाद्युपभोगाय अमुकसगोत्रः अमुकदेवशर्माहमुत्सृजे जलाशयस्य मध्यं तु ऋत्विग्घोमं चरेत्ततः ।। 2.3.4.
Reciting 'Om adya' and other mantras for the form of Vishnu and compassion, as prescribed by the Vedas and Vyasa, for the attainment of the fruit of the Agniṣṭoma sacrifice, in the ritual of establishing the lotus pond, I, of such-and-such gotra and named such-and-such Deva Sharma, offer this lotus pond of gold and silver, adorned and well-worshipped, as prescribed in my household tradition. Reciting 'Om adya' and other mantras, for the attainment of many fruits including Agniṣṭoma, I, of such-and-such gotra and named such-and-such Deva Sharma, relinquish this water reservoir, dedicated to Varuna, well-worshipped, together with the four-faced one, for the use of bathing, drinking, and other purposes, restricted to four beings. In the middle of the reservoir, the officiating priest should then perform the Soma ritual.
पूर्वावस्थायिनीं यष्टिं समारोप्य विधानतः पुष्करिण्यासमं तेन नागयष्ट्यंतरे क्षिपेत्
Placing the staff that was previously set up according to the procedure, one should throw it between the lotus pond and the naga staff.
तत्रैवानंतनागं च मंत्रमेतदुदीरयेद् फणासहस्रसंयुक्त सुप्रतिष्ठ नमोऽस्तु ते
There, for the Ananta naga, one should recite this mantra: 'Endowed with a thousand hoods, well established, salutations to you.'
दक्षिणां च ततो दद्यात्ततः पूर्णां विधाय च
Then, having made it complete, one should give the prescribed gift.
पद्मोत्पलं च शैवालं मंत्रमेव प्रयत्नतः
With care, one should use a lotus, a blue lotus, and śaivāla grass, along with the mantra.
