गोप्रचारे च शैलेयं यूपं हस्तद्वयान्वितम्
In the pasture for cows, a stone sacrificial post with two arms is to be established.
यूपं च चैत्रवृक्षं च कुण्डलीमठपीठिकाम् 2.3.2.
The sacrificial post should be made of the Caitra tree, with a circular monastery platform.
चतुर्हस्तप्रमाणेन शतकुण्डेन संमितम्
It should measure four cubits in size and be surrounded by a hundred pits.
भूमौ रत्नं च संस्थाप्य इमं मन्त्रमुदाहरेत्
Placing a jewel on the ground, one should recite this mantra.
गोभ्य एषा मया भूमिः सम्प्रदत्ता शुभार्थिना
This land has been given by me, desiring auspiciousness, to the cows.
स मुक्तः सर्वपापेभ्यो विष्णुलोके महीयते
He is freed from all sins and is honored in the world of Vishnu.
तावद्वर्षसहस्राणि स्वर्गलोके महीयते
For thousands of years, he is honored in the heavenly world.
सेतुं कृत्वा दक्षिणतः पश्चिमेंगाररोपणम्
Having built a bridge to the south, one should plant a fire-pit in the west.
ततः सहस्रधारां च शस्येन परिपूरिताम्
Then, a thousand streams filled with grain should be arranged.
नगरग्रामपूर्वे वा उत्तरे पश्चिमेपि वा
Whether in front of a city or village, or to the north or west,
गोप्रचारं खनेद्यस्तु वाहयेद्वा कथंचन
Whoever digs or leads a cow-pasture in any way,
स्वर्गं नयति गोचर्म सम्यग्दत्तं सदक्षिणम् 2.3.2.
A cowhide, properly given with a gift, leads one to heaven.
तावत्कालं वसेत्स्वर्गे विष्णुलोकान्न तच्च्युतिः
He dwells in heaven for that period, without falling from the worlds of Vishnu.
महायागावसाने च यो न तर्पयति द्विजान्
And at the end of a great sacrifice, whoever does not satisfy the twice-born,
वृषोत्सर्गा वसाने तु प्रदद्याद्यो महीं द्विजाः
But at the end of releasing a bull, whoever gives land to the Brahmins,
तत्र मानं पृथक्चैव शृणुतात्र समागताः
Now, all assembled here, listen to the separate measure in this matter.
गवां शतं वृषश्चैको यत्र तिष्ठत्ययंत्रितः
Where a hundred cows and one bull stand unrestrained,
गोप्रचारस्य देवस्य ब्राह्मणस्य च भो द्विजाः
O twice-born, this is the pasture for the deity and for the Brahmin.
मण्डपं पूजयेत्सूर्यं वासुदेवसमन्वितम्
One should worship the pavilion, honoring the Sun accompanied by Vāsudeva.
देहि मेति च मन्त्रेण विन्यसेन्मंडपोपरि
With the mantra 'Give to me,' one should arrange it upon the pavilion.
समुत्सृजेज्जपेत्पश्चात्सौरं सूक्तं च वैष्णवम्
After offering, one should recite the Saurasūkta and the Vaiṣṇava hymn.
दिक्पालान्संन्यसेत्स्वासु स्वासु दिक्षु विचक्षणः 2.3.2.
The wise should assign the guardians of the directions to their respective quarters.
धर्मसंस्थापनार्थाय आत्मनो विभवाय च
For the establishment of righteousness and for one's own prosperity.
भो वह्ने मेषवाहस्त्वं चतुःशृंगविराजित
O Fire, you ride the ram, adorned with four horns.
यम त्वं दक्षिणाशेश महामहिषवाहन
O Yama, you are the lord of the south, riding the great buffalo.
मञ्चस्थो राक्षसेन्द्रस्त्वं खड्गपाणिर्महाबलः
Seated on a throne, you are the king of demons, mighty, holding a sword.
वारिराट् ध्वजहस्तोऽसि पवनो मृगवाहनः
O lord of waters, you hold a banner; O wind, you ride the deer.
धनाध्यक्षो गदाहस्तः पिंगाक्षो नरवाहनः
O lord of wealth, you hold a mace; tawny-eyed, riding a man.
आदिदेवोसि देवानां कर्ता हर्ता महेश्वरः
You are the primordial god among the gods, creator and destroyer, O Maheśvara.
अनंतो नागराजो यो धरामुद्धृत्य तिष्ठति
Ananta, king of serpents, who stands holding up the earth.
