ब्रह्मणो वरुणस्याथ एकैकामाहुतिं तथा
One offering each should be made to Brahma and Varuna.
एकैकामाहुतिं दद्यादाज्येन च यथाक्रम्
One offering each should be given with clarified butter, in proper order.
अतिरक्ता पद्मरागा वह्निजिह्वा प्रकीर्तिताः 2.3.1.
Those exceedingly red, like padmaraga gems, are called the tongues of fire.
यकारस्थाश्च विज्ञेया अष्टस्वरविभूषिताः
Those situated in the syllable 'ya', adorned with the eight notes, are to be understood.
एकैकामाहुतिं दद्याद्दत्त्वा चैव समाहितः
He should offer each oblation one by one, having given them with a concentrated mind.
स्थालीपाकेन जुहुयान्मधुक्षीरयवान्वितम्
He should make an offering with rice cooked in a pot, mixed with honey, milk, and barley.
यावकैर्गंधपुष्पाद्यैरर्चित्वा सपरावकम्
Having worshipped with barley, fragrant substances, and flowers, along with cooked food and side dishes.
जापको विधिनानेन प्रजपेत्तत्र रुद्धकम्
The one reciting should, according to this rule, recite the prescribed text there.
ततः संमृज्य विधिना स्नापयित्वा यथाविधि
Then, having cleaned according to the procedure, he should bathe as prescribed.
ध्वजानारोप्य प्रांतेषु दद्यात्सोमं वनस्पतिम्
Having raised banners at the ends, he should offer soma and sacred wood.
सूच्या सुतीक्ष्णया कार्यं द्विपात्रे वामदक्षिणे
With a very sharp needle, he should make (a mark) on two vessels, left and right.
पिष्टकं च पृथग्दद्यात्कुमारीबालकेषु च
He should separately give cakes to young maidens and boys.
प्रदद्याद्दोहकं चैव वृक्षाणां विधिपूर्वकम् 2.3.1.
He should also offer a vessel for milking to the trees, according to the prescribed rule.
वृक्षाग्रात्पतितस्यापि आरोहात्पतितस्य च
Even if it has fallen from the top of a tree, or has fallen from climbing up,
धेनुं सुवर्णं धान्यं च आचार्याय प्रदक्षिणम्
He should give a cow, gold, and grain to the teacher, walking around them to the right.
धान्यं च ब्रह्मणे दद्याद्घृतभोज्यं सशर्करम्
He should give grain to a Brahmin, along with food prepared with ghee and sugar.
अधिकलशं समानीय स्नानं कुर्याद्विधानतः
Bringing an additional pot, he should perform bathing according to the injunction.
सर्वौषध्युदकं प्रोक्ष्य त्रिवारं क्षीरधारया
Sprinkling water infused with all herbs three times with a stream of milk.
गृहं व्रजेत्ततो विप्रैः कुर्याच्चैव गृहार्चनम्
Then he should go home and, with the Brahmins, perform worship of the house.
बलं कामं हयग्रीवं माधवं पुरुषोत्तमम्
Bala, Kama, Hayagriva, Madhava, and Purushottama—
दधिभक्तं बलिं दद्यात्पञ्चगव्यसमुद्भवम्
He should offer an oblation of curd-rice, produced from the five products of the cow.
शुद्धकांञ्चनवर्णाभां वराभयकरां शुभाम्
Resplendent like pure gold, bestowing boons and fearlessness, auspicious—
स्योना पृथिवीति मन्त्रेण पूजयित्वा यथाविधि 2.3.1.
After worshipping the earth with the mantra 'syonā pṛthivī', according to the proper procedure,
वामतो विश्वकर्माणं शुद्धस्फटिकसंनिभम्
On the left, place Viśvakarman, resembling pure crystal.
विश्वन्निति ऋचा तं च बलिं च मधु पिष्टकम्
With the 'viśvanniti' hymn, offer both the oblation and the honey mixture.
एकैकं होमयेत्पश्चा त्पृथिवीहोमकर्मणि
Then, for each one, perform the homa ritual in the earth-homa ceremony.
समुत्सृज्य ततः सेतुमिमं मन्त्रं पठेत्ततः
Afterwards, having released it, recite this mantra for the bridge.
ये चात्र प्राणिनः संति रक्षां कुर्वति सेतवः
And those living beings here who guard the bridge,
गर्तं कृत्वा पञ्चरत्नं संस्थाप्यं तदनन्तरम्
After making a pit, place the five gems immediately afterwards.
आचार्याय ततो दद्यादिष्टां च वरदक्षिणाम्
Then give the prescribed excellent gift to the teacher.
