सूक्तं यजेद्यथाशक्ति शतमष्टोत्तरं जपेत्
He should recite the hymn as able, and repeat it one hundred and eight times.
अनंतं पूजयेत्पूर्वं मानेनांगुलमात्रकम्
First, he should worship Ananta, with honor, in a measure of a finger's length.
राजतं वासुकिं नागं यजेत्पत्रांतरे पुनः
He should worship the silver Vasuki serpent again between the leaves.
पंचांगुलं तोलिकया लोहं कर्कोटकं पुनः 2.2.20.
With a cloth measuring five fingers, he should again worship the iron Karkotaka.
शंखपालं कुशमयमर्धपादेन निर्मितम्
He should make a Śaṅkhapāla (serpent deity) of kuśa grass, fashioned with half a foot.
अंगुष्ठे तोलकं पश्चात्पद्मनागं पुनर्यजेत्
Afterwards, he should offer a tolaka on the thumb, and then worship Padmanāga again.
कुर्याच्छैलमयं सम्यग्यथावल्लक्षणान्वितम्
He should properly make one of stone, endowed with all the appropriate characteristics.
ध्यात्वानंतं चतुर्बाहुं शुक्लसप्तफणान्वितम्
Meditating on Ananta, four-armed, adorned with seven white hoods.
वामोर्ध्वे तु गदापद्मं मध्यस्थाने व्यवस्थितम्
On the upper left, the mace and lotus, established in the middle position.
लाजैश्च तिलसंमिश्रैः क्षीरयुक्तैः पृथग्विधैः
With offerings of popped rice mixed with sesame seeds, prepared with various kinds of milk.
चतुर्विधं तथा श्वेतं सर्वालंकारसंयुतम्
Four kinds, all white, adorned with every ornament.
पिण्याकं नागजिह्वां च तथा सर्जरसं दधि
Oil-cake, nāgajihvā herb, likewise sarja resin, and curd.
पद्मं टंकं दधानं च भुजाभ्यां नागसत्तमम्
The best of serpents, holding a lotus and a club in his arms.
कर्कोटकं च द्विभुजं पीतवस्त्रधरं यजेत् 2.2.20.
He should worship Karkoṭaka, two-armed, wearing yellow garments.
पीतवस्त्रं च कुलिशं याजयेत्तु चतुर्भुजम्
He should cause to be worshipped the four-armed one, wearing yellow garments and holding a thunderbolt.
शर्करा कुष्ठकं चैव बलिस्तस्य प्रकी र्तितः
Sugar and kuṣṭhaka are declared as his strength.
पद्मासनस्थं पद्माभ्यां हस्ताभ्यां च वरं विभुम्
Seated in lotus posture, with lotus hands, the Lord who grants boons.
घटौदनं भृंगराजं पद्मं च वलयस्तयोः
A pot of rice, bhr̥ṅgarāja herb, and a lotus, as bracelets for both.
कृत्वा आज्यस्य संस्कारं वारुणं श्रपयेच्चरुम्
Having prepared clarified butter, he should offer the Varuṇa oblation.
एकैकामाहुतिं दद्याद्ग्रहाणां च त्रयंत्रयम्
He should make one offering each, three by three, to the planets.
पलाशसमिधं पश्चात्प्रतिष्ठामाहुतित्रयम्
Afterwards, with palāśa wood as fuel, three offerings for the establishment.
मध्वाज्यगुडमिश्राभिर्लाजाभिर्जुहुयात्पृथक्
He should offer popped rice separately, mixed with honey, ghee, and jaggery.
स्थालीपाकस्य जुहुयादेकैकामाहुतिं पुनः
One should offer a single oblation each for the Sthālīpāka sacrifice, again and again.
वास्तोष्पतय इति मंत्रेण पञ्चगव्यो भवेत्ततः 2.2.20.
With the mantra 'Vāstoṣpataye', one should then prepare the five products of the cow.
वृषान्न इति मंत्रेण कया न इति वै पुनः
With the mantra 'Vṛṣānna', and again with 'Kayā na', one should proceed.
इमा रुद्रेति मंत्रेण श्रीश्चेति ऋचा पुनः
With the mantra 'Imā rudra', and again with the ṛc 'Śrīś ca te', one should continue.
तद्विष्णोरिति मंत्रेण तथा पुष्पोदकेन च
With the mantra 'Tad Viṣṇoḥ', and likewise with flower-water, one should proceed.
पञ्चरक्तेन रक्तानां मृदा कैश्च कुशोदकैः
With the five red substances, red earth, and some water with kuśa grass, one should continue.
तैजसैर्मार्त्तिकैश्चापि अष्टाविंशतिभिस्तथा
With articles made of metal and clay, and likewise with twenty-eight such items.
अन्नं लिप्य ततो मृद्भिर्दद्याच्चैव यथाक्रमम्
One should smear the food with those clays, and then offer them in due order.
