प्रजपेदिन्द्रमग्निं च सोमाय च यथाक्रमम्
One should recite Indra, Agni, and Soma in due order.
भूर्भुवः स्वाहेति तथा तत्र इत्यादिपंचकम्
Bhūḥ, Bhuvaḥ, and Svāhā—thus, the fivefold formula beginning with 'tatra' (there) is to be used.
घृताहुतिं स्विष्टकृच्च द्विजसंस्कारकर्मसु
One should offer a ghee oblation, along with the sviṣṭakṛt, during the rites for the sanctification of twice-born men.
सर्वौषध्युदकस्नानं करिदंतोत्थमुष्णया
A bath should be performed with water infused with all medicinal herbs, using warm water brought by an elephant.
त्रिगन्धं च त्रिशीतं च कुशमूलस्य मृत्तिकाः
The earth from the root of the kuśa grass, mixed with three fragrances and cooled three times, should be used.
यजमानः पुरः कृत्वा दंतकाष्ठपुरःसरम्
The sacrificer, having placed the tooth-cleaning stick in front, should stand at the forefront.
' कृत्वा यथोक्तकालेन पूजयेत्तैलधारया 2.2.19.
Having done so at the prescribed time, one should worship with a stream of oil.
स्नानमब्दैवतैर्मन्त्रैः सूक्तेन पुरुषेण तु
The bath should be performed with divine mantras, especially with the Puruṣa Sūkta.
सुरास्त्वामभिषिंचंतु ब्रह्मन्न विष्णुमहेश्वराः
May the gods—Brahmā, Viṣṇu, and Maheśvara—anoint you with sacred waters.
आखंडलोग्निर्भगवान्यमो वै निर्ऋतिस्तथा
May the blessed Agni, Yama, Nirṛti, and Aṅgada also anoint you.
ब्रह्मणा सहितः शेषो दिक्पालाः पातु ते सदा
May Śeṣa, together with Brahmā, and the guardians of the directions always protect you.
बुद्धिर्लज्जा वपुः शांतिस्तुष्टिः कांतिश्च मातरः
May intellect, modesty, beauty, tranquility, satisfaction, and radiance—your mothers—protect you.
आदित्यश्चन्द्रमा भौमो बुधजीवसितार्कजाः
The Sun, the Moon, Mars, Mercury, Jupiter, Venus, and Saturn—
देवदानवगंधर्वा यक्षराक्षसपन्नगाः
The gods, Dānavas, Gandharvas, Yakṣas, Rākṣasas, and serpents—
देवपत्न्यो द्रुमा नागा दैत्याश्चाप्सरसां गणाः
The wives of the gods, trees, nāgas, daityas, and hosts of apsarases—
औषधानि च रत्नानि कालस्यावयवाश्च ये
Medicinal herbs, gems, and all the parts of Time—
एते त्वामभिषिंचंतु सर्वकामार्थसिद्धये 2.2.19.
May all these anoint you for the attainment of every desired object.
गवामष्टोत्तरशतं तदर्धं चाथ विंशतिम्
One should give one hundred and eight cows, or half that number plus twenty.
ततः प्रभाते विमले जले समृवतारयेत्
Then, at dawn, in pure water, one should cause the recipient to bathe.
सामगाय ततो दद्यात्सुवर्णदक्षिणान्विताम्
Afterwards, one should give to the Sāmagā a gift of gold as the sacrificial fee.
अच्छेवतेन मन्त्रेण गायत्र्या तदनन्तरम्
Then, with the Achhevat mantra and the Gayatri, immediately thereafter—
पर्वताग्रमृदा तोयनागवल्मीकजातया
With earth from the mountain peak, with water, and with clay from an anthill—
पुष्पोदकेन शंखेन तथा रत्नोदकेन च
With water scented with flowers, with a conch, and with water touched by jewels—
सुगंधेन त्रिशीतेन विलिप्य च समाहितः
Anointed with fragrant, cool substances, with a focused mind—
माल्यवस्त्रैरलंकृत्य पूजयेद्गन्धचन्दनैः
Adorned with garlands and cloths, one should worship with fragrant sandalwood—
पुनस्त्वादिति मंत्रेण पुनः पुष्पं समुत्सृजेत्
Again, with the mantra 'punastva', one should again offer flowers—
कांस्यचक्रस्य मानं तु ऊर्ध्वं यद्द्वादशांगुलम् 2.2.19.
The measure of the bronze disc should be twelve finger-breadths in height—
अंगुष्ठहीने लोहस्य तत्र शूलं न कारयेत्
If the thumb is absent in the metal, one should not fashion a spear there—
समुत्सृजेच्च प्रासादं तडागं च विशेषतः समुत्सृजेत्ततः पश्चाद्वाक्यमेतदुरीयेत्
One should offer especially a pavilion and a pond; then, after offering, this statement should be recited—
ओमित्यादिश्रीकृष्णद्वैपायनाभिधान वेदव्यासप्रणीत भविष्यपुराणोक्त फलप्रप्तिकामश्चतुष्कोणाद्यवच्छिन्नमत्कारितपुष्करिणीजलमेतदूर्जितं गंधपुष्पाद्यर्चितं वरुणदैवतं सर्वसत्त्वेभ्यः स्नानावगाहनार्थमहमुत्सृजे
"Om, thus declared by Shri Krishna Dvaipayana, composed by Vedavyasa, as stated in the Bhavishya Purana, for the sake of attaining the fruit, this water of the pond, made by me, bounded by a quadrangle, honored with fragrance and flowers, dedicated to the deity Varuna, for the bathing and immersion of all beings, I offer."
