स्तूयमानं सुरगणैः सिद्धगंधर्वसेवितम्
Praised by hosts of gods, attended by perfected beings and celestial musicians.
राजीवलोचनं नित्यं नागलोकोपशोभितम्
With lotus-like eyes, always adorned by the realm of serpents.
जलाशयगतं देवं चिंतयेज्जलशायिनम्
One should contemplate the deity dwelling in water, the one who lies upon the waters.
अर्घ्यपात्रं ततः कृत्वा त्रिभागजलपूरितम्
Then, having prepared a vessel for offering, filled with water in three parts,
आसनं यागवस्तूनि प्रोक्षयेत्तेन वारिणा
One should sprinkle the seat and sacrificial objects with that water.
तन्नो अरुणः प्रचोदयादिति स्नानं समाचरेत्
Reciting 'tanno aruṇaḥ pracodayāt', one should perform the bathing.
धर्माधर्मादिकान्सर्वान्त्सत्त्वादीनथ चार्चयेत्
One should worship all beings, beginning with dharma and adharma.
मध्ये शक्तिं च क्षीरोदमनंतं पृथिवीं तथा
In the center, the power, the ocean of milk, the infinite, and the earth as well.
पञ्चतत्त्वं समभ्यर्च्य सांगोपागमनंतरम् 2.2.19.
Having worshipped the five elements, along with their limbs and subsidiary aspects.
गृहीत्वा पूर्ववद्देशे स्थापयेत्कलशोपरि
Taking it, one should place it above the vessel as before, in the designated spot.
एह्येहि भगवन्वरुण एष यज्ञः प्रवर्तते
Come, come, O Lord Varuṇa, this sacrifice is being performed.
एवमावाह्य लोकेशमष्टौ मुद्राः प्रदर्शयेत्
Thus, after invoking the Lord of the world, one should display the eight mudrās.
पुष्पाञ्जलिं ततो दत्त्वा मूलमंत्रेण देशिकः
Then, offering a handful of flowers, the teacher should recite the root mantra.
सत्त्वाद्याः पूजयेत्तत्र तेषामेव वरांगनाः
There, he should worship Sattva and the others, along with their chosen consorts.
पूर्वादिपत्रमध्ये तु ग्रहानष्टौ प्रपूजयेत्
In the center of the eastern petal, he should duly worship the eight planets.
कर्णिकादक्षिणे पूर्वं वामे चापि शचीपतिम्
First, on the right of the pericarp, and on the left, the Lord of Śacī.
नैर्ऋत्ये वरुण स्याथ मध्येऽनंतं प्रपूजयेत्
In the southwest, Varuṇa should be placed, and in the center, Ananta should be worshipped.
विष्णुं चापि गणेशं च पृथिवीं गंधचन्दनैः
Viṣṇu, Gaṇeśa, and the Earth should be worshipped with fragrant sandalwood.
जानुभ्यामवनीं गत्वा विजयाख्यस्तवं पठेत् 2.2.19.
Approaching the earth on one's knees, one should recite the hymn called 'Vijaya.'
नैर्ऋत्यां विश्वकर्माणं वायव्ये तु सरस्वतीम्
In the southwest, Viśvakarman; in the northwest, Sarasvatī.
आवहं प्रवहं चैव तथैवोद्वहसंवहौ
Likewise, Āvaha and Pravaha, as well as Udvaha and Saṃvaha.
विन्यसेदुत्तरद्वारि मरुतं च पराभवम्
He should place Marut and Parābhava at the northern gate.
पिशाचान्राक्षसान्भूतान्वेतालांश्च तथा क्रमात्
In order, Piśācas, Rākṣasas, Bhūtas, and also Vetālas.
गोमुखो नन्दभद्रश्च द्विजिह्वो मलिनस्तथा
Gomukha, Nandabhadra, Dvijihva, and likewise Malina.
भूमिदो वरदश्चैव जयंतः क्षोभकस्तथा
Bhūmida, Varada, Jayanta, and also Kṣobhaka.
अंगदो नीलकर्णोऽसौ वसंतो यावकस्तथा
Aṅgada, Nīlakarṇa, Vasantā, and also Yāvaka.
गंधपुष्पाक्षतैर्भक्तं सर्वे देवा ग्रहादयः
All the gods, beginning with the planets, should be worshipped with fragrant flowers, unbroken rice, and food.
ध्यायेदादित्यमारक्तं रक्तपद्मासनस्थितम्
He should meditate on the sun, red in color, seated upon a red lotus.
यवविद्रुमसंकाशं सिंदूरारुणसप्रभम् 2.2.19.
Resembling the color of barley and coral, with a brilliance like vermilion-red.
इहागच्छेति चावाह्य पाद्यार्घ्यैश्च पृथग्विधैः
Inviting him here with the words 'Come here,' and offering various kinds of water for washing the feet and for hospitality.
