पंच देवान्नमस्कृत्य तथा यज्ञेश्वरं हरिम्
Should bow to the five gods and to Hari, the lord of sacrifice.
एतस्मिन्पुण्यदेशे तु फलं गोत्रश्च वै यमः
In this sacred place, the fruit and the lineage are determined by Yama.
यथायथा स्वतन्त्रोक्तं पुण्या रण्याभिधायकम्
As stated independently, the merit is declared according to the sacred texts.
यथायथा च कल्पोक्तं यथाकुण्डं विधानतः
And as prescribed in the Kalpa texts, according to the fire pit and the procedure.
जलाशयप्रतिष्ठां च करिष्ये विधिवद्द्विजाः
O twice-born, I shall establish a reservoir of water in accordance with the prescribed rites.
मातृयागं पुरस्कृत्य वृद्धिश्राद्धं समापयेत्
Having performed the offering to the Mothers, one should complete the ancestral rite for increase.
भेर्यादिघोषेण सुमंगलेन पद्यं लिखेदत्र सषोडशाक्षरम्
With auspicious sounds of drums and the like, one should inscribe a verse here of sixteen syllables.
ब्रह्मेशान्वरयेत्सर्वानाचार्यं तु विशेषतः
He should invite all the Brahmins and especially the teacher.
नानारत्नैश्च वस्त्रैश्च आचार्यं वरयेद्बुधः 2.2.19.
A wise man should honor the teacher with various jewels and garments.
यथामानं यथाशक्ति यथाभिवृणुयाद्बुधः
According to his means, ability, and desire, the wise man should make selections.
ततः सर्वौषधीभिश्च यजमानः सपत्निकः
Then, together with his wife, the sacrificer should use all kinds of herbs.
यवगोधूमनीवारतिलश्यामाकशालयः
Barley, wheat, pulses, sesame, black millet, and rice should be used.
ततः शुक्लाम्बरधरः शुक्लमाल्यानुलेपनः
Then, wearing white garments, adorned with white garlands and unguents,
ब्राह्मणैरभ्यनुज्ञातः पुरोहितपुरःसरः
Having been permitted by the Brahmins and led by the priest,
यजमानः सपत्नीकः पुत्रपौत्रसमन्वितः
The sacrificer, together with his wife, sons, and grandsons,
चरके पूजयेद्विघ्नं गंगां च यमुनां तथा
At the altar, he should worship the Remover of Obstacles, as well as the Ganga and Yamuna.
वेदिं प्रदक्षिणीकृत्य नमस्कुर्याद्यथाविधि
Circumambulating the altar, he should offer salutations according to the proper method.
स्वस्ति वाच्यं ततः कृत्वा पंच देवान्प्रपूजयेत्
Then, having pronounced blessings, he should worship the five deities.
अपक्रामंतु ये भूता ये चास्मिन्विप्रकारकाः 2.2.19.
Let those beings who are obstacles or who cause disorder here depart.
पूजयेदासनं पश्चात्स्वकीयं पुष्पचंदनैः
Afterwards, he should worship the seat with his own flowers and sandalwood.
विमलासनाय च नमो नमः सारासनाय च
Salutations, salutations to the pure seat, and to the excellent seat.
ततो भूमितले वामहस्तं दत्त्वा पठेन्नरः
Then, placing his left hand on the ground, the man should recite.
त्वं च धारय मां नित्यं पवित्रमासनं कुरु
You should always uphold me, make the seat pure.
देवं हृत्पद्मके नीत्वा प्राणायामत्रयं चरेत्
Having brought the deity into the lotus of the heart, one should practice the threefold regulation of breath.
गन्धपुष्पैस्तथा वस्त्रैर्नैवेद्यैर्विविधैरपि
With fragrances, flowers, garments, and various offerings of food,
आब्रह्मन्निति ऋचा तद्विष्णोरिति संस्मरन्
Reciting the verse 'ābrahman' and remembering 'tad viṣṇoḥ',
ततो देवशरीरं तु नवमासाद्य त्रिंशतम्
Then, after thirty days, the divine form is attained anew.
ततो राजाधिराजेन भूतशुद्धिं समाचरेत्
After that, the king of kings should perform the purification of the elements.
शुद्धस्फटिकसंकाशं शंखकुन्देन्दुसप्रभम् 2.2.19.
Pure, like crystal, radiant as conch, jasmine, and the moon.
शुक्लमाल्यांबरं शुक्लं शुक्लगंधानुलेपनम्
Clad in white garlands and garments, anointed with white fragrant substances.
