चिरं मे शाश्वती कीर्तिर्यावल्लोकाश्चराचराः
May my enduring fame last as long as the worlds, both moving and unmoving, exist.
त्वमादिः सर्वभूतानां संसारार्णव तारकः
You are the origin of all beings, the one who carries across the ocean of worldly existence.
ब्रह्मणैव समुद्भूत प्रकाशितदिगन्तर 2.2.17.
Born from Brahman alone, you reveal all directions and realms.
प्रतप्तकनकाभास भासितद्युतिभूतल
With the radiance of refined gold, you illuminate the entire earth with your brilliance.
प्रफुल्लकनकाभास भास्वरासुरभूषित
Resplendent like blossoming gold, adorned with shining and fragrant ornaments.
षडंगवेदवेदज्ञ ऋत्विङ्गमोक्षप्रदो भव
Knower of the six-limbed Veda and the Vedas, giver of liberation to the officiating priests, be present.
वेद्याः पश्चिमभागे तु आचार्यं स्थापयेद्बुधः
In the western part of the altar, the wise should establish the teacher.
होतारं स्थापयेत्तत्र विधिज्ञमथ चोत्तरे
There, in the northern direction, the officiant skilled in ritual should be placed.
द्वारिद्वारि प्रयत्नेन द्वारपालाननुक्रमात्
At each doorway, with care, the doorkeepers should be stationed in order.
पूजयेद्गन्धपुष्पाद्यैर्वाससो युगलेन तु
They should be worshipped with fragrant substances, flowers, and a pair of garments.
नारायणस्वरूपेण यज्ञं मे सफलं कुरु
In the form of Nārāyaṇa, make my sacrifice fruitful.
ऋग्वेदार्थस्य तत्त्वज्ञ इन्द्ररूप नमोऽस्तु ते
Knower of the true meaning of the Ṛgveda, in the form of Indra, I bow to you.
यजुर्वेदार्थतत्त्वज्ञ ब्रह्मरूप नमोऽस्तु ते 2.2.17.
Knower of the true meaning of the Yajurveda, in the form of Brahma, I bow to you.
मांगल्यं कर्मणां नित्यं सर्वज्ञं ज्ञानरूपि णम्
You are the auspiciousness of all actions, ever all-knowing, the embodiment of knowledge.
पालय त्वं दिशः सर्वा विदिशश्च तथा इमम् न संकल्पं चरेद्यागं व्रतं देवार्चनं तथा
Protect all the directions and intermediate quarters, and do not perform intention, sacrifice, vow, or worship of the gods.
संकल्पमूलः कामो वै यज्ञाः संकल्पसंभवाः
Desire is rooted in intention; sacrifices arise from intention.
फलं चाल्पाल्पकं तस्य धर्मस्यार्द्धक्षयो भवेत्
The fruit of such dharma is very little, and even that leads to the decline of merit.
कामात्परो नैव भवेन्निष्कामोऽपि न शोभनः
One who acts from desire is not superior, and even one without desire is not praiseworthy.
संकल्पेन विना यस्तु धर्मं चरति मानवः
A man who practices righteousness without intention—
न कुर्यात्स्थापने चैव कुर्याद्वै मंडलांतरे
He should not perform the establishment there, but should do so in another circle.
जलाशयारामकूप संकल्पे पूर्वदिङ्मुखः
For the intention regarding a reservoir, garden, or well, one should face east.
यज्ञीयपात्रपुटकं हस्तस्थाने प्रकीर्तितम् 2.2.17.
A vessel or cup for sacrifice is prescribed to be held in the hand.
आकाशे निक्षिपेद्यागे व्रते ईशेपि नित्यके
One should place it in the sky during a sacrifice, vow, or perpetual rite.
शुक्तिकांस्यादिहस्तैश्च ताम्ररौप्यादिभिस्तथा
With shells, bronze, and similar objects in the hands, as well as with copper, silver, and the like.
प्रणवं पूर्वमुच्चार्य यजेद्यज्ञेश्वरं स्मरेत्
Having first pronounced the sacred syllable 'Om,' one should worship and remember the Lord of sacrifice.
सूर्यः सोमो यमः कालो महाभूतानि पंच च
The Sun, the Moon, Yama, Time, and the five great elements—
इत्युच्चार्य न्यसेद्धर्मं ध्यात्वा पुष्पाञ्जलिं सृजेत्
Having uttered thus, one should establish righteousness, meditating and offering a handful of flowers.
धर्मः शुभ्रवपुः सितांबरधरः कार्योर्ध्वदेशे वृषो हस्ताभ्यामभयं वरं च सततं रूपं परं यो दधत्
Righteousness is of radiant form, clad in white garments, with a bull above the altar, bestowing fearlessness and boons with both hands, always bearing the supreme form.
यज्ञसंबंधिविप्रांश्च एकाहेनैव योजयेत्
Brahmins connected with the sacrifice should be engaged for one day only.
पुनःपुनर्नियोज्यानि ब्राह्मणा हविरग्नयः
Brahmins and sacrificial fires are to be engaged repeatedly.
