कल्पक्षेत्रं समागम्य कालिंद्यां तमपातयत्
Having come to the field of Kalpa, she cast him into the Kālindī.
सामन्तो नाम तं गृह्य श्वशुरालयमाययौ
A man named Sāmanta, taking him, went to his father-in-law's house.
भाद्रकृष्णाष्टमीसौम्ये ब्राह्मनक्षत्रसंयुते
On the auspicious eighth day of the dark fortnight of Bhādra, when the Brāhmaṇa and Kṣatra stars were conjoined,
श्यामांगः स च पद्माक्ष इंद्रनीलमणिद्युतिः
He had a dark body, lotus-like eyes, and the radiance of an indranīla gem.
विस्मिता जननी तत्र दृष्ट्वा बालं तमद्भुतम्
The mother was astonished there, seeing that wondrous child.
उदयः किमहो जातो देवानां सूर्यरूपकः
What is this rising, what marvel has occurred—a form of the gods, resembling the sun?
कृष्णांशो भूतले जातः सर्वानन्दप्रदायकः
A portion of Krishna has been born upon the earth, bestowing joy upon all.
इत्याकाशवचः श्रुत्वा ते परं हर्ष माययुः
Hearing these words from the sky, they experienced supreme delight.
श्यामांगं सुन्दरं बालं सर्वलक्षणलक्षितम्
The child was dark-complexioned, beautiful, and marked with all auspicious signs.
तदा तु नगरी सर्वा हर्षभूता बभूव ह 3.3.9.
Then the entire city became filled with joy.
ब्राह्मी तु सुषुवे पुत्रं पार्षदांशं महाबलम्
Brāhmī gave birth to a son, a portion of the attendants, possessing great strength.
ब्राह्मणाश्च तदागत्य जातकर्म ह्यकारयन्
The brāhmaṇas then arrived and performed the birth rites.
क्रमेण वर्द्धिता बालाः सर्वलोकशिवंकराः
Gradually, the children grew, bringing auspiciousness to all the worlds.
तृतीयाब्दे वयः प्राप्ते कृष्णांशे बलवत्तरे
When the third year was reached, the Krishna-portion became stronger.
क्रीडन्स चन्दनारण्ये कृष्णांशो भ्रातृभिः सह
Krishna's portion played in the sandalwood forest together with his brothers.
अश्विनी हरिणी दिव्या उच्चैःश्रवसमन्तिके
The divine horse Ashvini, the deer, were near Uccaiḥśravas.
वर्षांतरे च सुषुवे कपोतं तनयं शुभम्
After a year, she gave birth to a son, a dove, auspicious in form.
ब्राह्मणं शिवशर्माणं सर्वविद्याविशारदम्
A brāhmaṇa named Shivaśarman was born, skilled in all knowledge.
अष्टाब्दे चैव कृष्णांशो नामपत्रादिकां क्रियाम्
When Krishna's portion reached the eighth year, the naming and other rites were performed.
सूत उवाच नवमाब्दं वयः प्राप्ते कृष्णांशो बलवत्तरः
Sūta said: When Krishna's portion reached the ninth year, he became stronger.
धर्मशास्त्रं तथैवापि सर्वश्रेष्ठं बभूव ह
He became the foremost in dharmaśāstra as well.
करार्थं प्रेषयामास स्वसैन्यं च महावतीम्
He sent his own army for the purpose of conquest, and to the great city.
ऊचुः परिमलं भूपं शृणु चंद्रकुलोद्भव
They said to King Parimala, 'Listen, O descendant of the lunar dynasty.'
षडंशं करमादायास्मद्राजाय ददंति वै
They take one-sixth as tax and give it to our king.
अद्यप्रभृति चेद्राज्ञे तस्मै दद्यात्करं न हि
But from today onward, if anyone gives tax to that king, it will not be accepted.
ये भूपा जयचंद्रस्य पक्षगास्ते हि तद्भयात्
Those kings who have joined the side of Jayachandra do so out of fear of him.
इति श्रुत्वा स नृपतिस्तस्मै राज्ञे महात्मने
Hearing this, that king approached the great-souled ruler.
दशलक्षमितं द्रव्यं गृहीत्वा ते समाययुः
Taking wealth amounting to one million, they came together.
तदा ते लक्षशूराश्च कान्यकुब्जमुपाययुः 3.3.10.
Then those hundred thousand heroes arrived at Kanyakubja.
पृथ्वीराजो महाराजो दंडं त्वत्तः समिच्छति
King Prithviraja, the great king, desires tribute from you.
