अभिषेकं ततः कुर्यात्सुवास्त्विति च वै जपन्
After that, he should perform the consecration, reciting 'Suvāstu' indeed.
पञ्चदोषं पुरस्कृत्य ब्राह्मणानुमतेन च
Having considered the five faults, and with the approval of a brāhmaṇa—
दीनांधकृपणे चैव दद्याद्वित्तानुसारतः
He should give, according to his means, to the poor, the blind, and the destitute.
न क्षीरं च कषायं च भर्जितं शाकमेव च
He should not give milk, decoctions, or fried vegetables.
शाल्यन्नं मूलकं चैव पनसाम्रफलानि च
He should give rice prepared from shāli, radish, and also the fruits of jackfruit and mango.
बदरं धातकिफलं कुन्द पुष्पं तथा तिलम्
Jujube, dhātaki fruit, jasmine flowers, and also sesame seeds.
त्रिरात्रमथ सप्ताहं परित्यज्य खले ततः
For three nights or a week, having abstained, then afterwards—
प्रथमा चार्कहस्तेन द्वितीया दशहस्तिका 2.2.12.
The first (offering) is with one aratni (forearm's length), the second with ten hastas (hands).
शतार्धं ततः पश्चात्षष्टिहस्तमनंतरम्
Then, at a distance of one hundred and fifty plus sixty cubits thereafter,
अग्निहोत्रविधानवर्णनम् न परोक्तं विधानेन भयदं कीर्तिध्वंसनम्

तेषां संस्कारयागेषु शान्तिकर्मक्रियासु च
In their rites of consecration, sacrificial ceremonies, and acts for peace,
त्रिकुशं परिगृह्णाति ततश्च कुरुते दृढम्
He takes three blades of kuśa grass, and then makes them firm.
कश्यपस्तृप्यतामिति भूरसीति च शोधनम् देवता च भवेत्सूर्यः पृथिवीशोधने न्यसेत्
Saying 'May Kaśyapa be satisfied,' and 'bhūḥ rasā,' as purification; the deity is the Sun; for purifying the earth, he should place it.
ऐशान्यादिक्रमेणैव प्रादक्षिण्येन यत्नतः
Beginning from the northeast, proceeding in a clockwise direction with care,
कुशगर्भत्रयेणापि भ्रामयेद्वलयाकृति
With three kuśa stalks placed together, he should move in a circular manner.
ईशानादेश्च संस्कारं कुर्यात्परिसमूहनम्
From the northeast, he should perform the consecration, the act of sweeping around.
परिसमूहनमैन्द्रस्य पर्वतोऽस्य ऋषिः स्मृतः
The act of sweeping around is for Indra; Parvata is remembered as its seer.
गोमयं च त्रिगंधं च पंचमूर्तिकयापि च 2.2.13.
With cow dung, triple fragrance, and also with the fivefold substances,
मानस्तोकेनेति ऋचा विश्वेदेवश्च पूज्यताम्
With the verse 'mānastokena,' all the gods should be worshipped.
योजयेल्लेपयेद्विद्वान्घटमाबद्ध्य सत्तमाः
The wise should join and anoint, binding the pot, O best ones.
चतुरस्त्रीकृते क्षेत्रं हस्तमानं तथाननम्
When the field is made quadrangular, its measure should be by the hand, likewise the face.
दक्षे सार्धांगुलं त्यक्त्वा पश्चिमेन परित्यजेत्
On the south, leaving half a finger's breadth, and on the west, he should leave it aside.
आप्यायस्वेति मन्त्रस्य धन्वतरि ऋषिः स्मृतः
For the mantra 'āpyāyasva,' Dhanvantari is remembered as the seer.
तल्लग्नं दक्षिणे चैकं पूर्वार्द्धद्वादशाङ्गुलम्
That which is attached on the south is one, and in the eastern half, it is twelve fingers in length.
कुशमूलेन स्वर्णेन प्रतिष्ठायां च राजते
At the foundation, with the root of kuśa and with gold, and for establishment, with silver.
संस्मरेन्मित्रा वरुणौ ऋषिरौतथ्यसंज्ञकः
He should remember Mitra and Varuṇa, and the sage named Autathya.
तेनैवोर्द्ध्वकरौ कुर्याद्दक्षवामे सकृत्सकृत्
With both hands raised upwards, he should perform the gesture again and again.
सदसंपदृषिः कर्णो विराडिति उदाहृतः 2.2.13.
The sage Sadasampad, the metre is Kārṇa, and the deity is Virāṭ, as declared.
कुशपुष्पोदकेनापि देवतीर्थेन सत्तमाः पञ्चपल्लवतोयेन महायोगे विशेषतः
The excellent ones use kuśa grass, flowers, and water, or water from a sacred place of the gods, and especially in great rites, water with five kinds of leaves.
