असुराय मोदकांश्चैव दद्यादापिक्षये सुराम्
For Asura, one should give sweet cakes, and at the waning of the moon, liquor.
रोगाय घृतलड्डूकं सपायसगुडौदनम्
For Roga, ghee-laden sweet balls, along with milk-rice and jaggery rice.
सोमाय मधुशाल्यन्नं नागाय गुडपिष्टकम्
For Soma, honeyed rice; for Nāga, cakes made with jaggery.
दित्यै दद्यात्तथा क्षीरं सितशर्करया सह
For Diti, one should likewise offer milk together with white sugar.
सावित्र्यै लड्डुकान्नं च सवित्रे च गुडौदनम् 2.2.11.
For Sāvitrī, sweet balls; and for Savitṛ, rice with jaggery.
विरूपाय च तद्दद्याद्धरिद्रान्नं तथैव च
For Virūpa, one should give turmeric-flavored rice in the same way.
मांसौदनं यक्ष्मणे च कृशरं वरुणाय च
Meat-rice is for Yakṣman; kṛśara is for Varuṇa.
चित्रौदनं समांसं च मत्स्यान्नं गुडपिष्टकम् तीर्थतोयसमायुक्तं सुगन्धेन समन्वितम्
For Citrā, rice mixed with meat, fish, and jaggery cakes, combined with water from a sacred place and endowed with fragrance.
पताका देववर्णेन दद्याद्ब्रह्मादिषु क्रमात्
A banner of divine color should be offered in order to the gods beginning with Brahmā.
पुरुषस्तवस्य सूर्य ऋषिर्जगती छन्दः
The seer of the Puruṣa hymn is Sūrya, and its meter is Jagatī.
नारायणो नरो हंसो विष्वक्सेनो हुताशनः
Nārāyaṇa, Nara, Haṃsa, Viṣvaksena, and Hutāśana.
यज्ञेशः पुण्डरीकाक्षः कृष्णः सूर्यः सुरार्चितः
Yajñeśa, Puṇḍarīkākṣa, Kṛṣṇa, Sūrya, honored by the gods.
पद्मनाभो हृषीकेशो दाता दामोदरो हरिः
Padmanabha, Hrishikesha, the giver, Damodara, Hari.
भक्तप्रियोऽच्युतः सत्यः सत्यवाक्यो ध्रुवः शुचिः
Beloved of devotees, Achyuta, truthful, speaker of truth, steadfast, pure.
विदारी विनयः शांतस्तपस्वी वैद्युतप्रभः 2.2.11.
The one who tears asunder, humility, peaceful, ascetic, radiant like lightning.
त्वं स्वधा त्वं हि स्वाहा त्वं सुधा च पुरुषोत्तमः अनंतायाप्रमेयाय नमस्ते गरुडध्वज
You are svadha, you are svaha, you are nectar, O Supreme Person; salutations to the infinite, immeasurable one, Garuda-bannered.
ब्रह्मस्तवमिमं प्रोक्तं महादेवेन भाषितम्
This hymn to Brahma was spoken by Mahadeva.
ध्यायंति ये नित्यमनंतमच्युतं हृत्पद्ममध्ये स्वयमाव्यवस्थितम्
Those who constantly meditate on the infinite, Achyuta, established by themselves in the lotus of the heart.
अर्घ्यदानविधिवर्णनम् कनकतोयेन गन्धेन मुद्गलाग्रेण लेपयेत्
With golden water and fragrance, smear the tip of the mudga grain.
ऐशान्यां मध्यभागे वा यजेद्वा सुसमाहितः
In the northeast or in the middle, one should worship with full concentration.
ऋषिः कंठोथ गायत्री छन्द इत्यभिधीयते
The sage is Kantha, and Gayatri is the meter, so it is said.
विवरे पूजयेत्कर्म ब्रह्माणं च धराधरम्
In the cavity, worship the ritual and Brahma, the supporter of the earth.
अग्रतोऽष्टदलं लेख्यं स्थापयेत्कलशं ततः
Draw the eight-petaled lotus in front and then place the pot.
शुक्तिशंखसमं वापि विश्वामित्रसमुद्भवम्
Or with a shell or conch equal to Shukti, produced by Vishvamitra.
विष्णुक्रांता वचाकुष्ठचन्दनेन विलोडितम्
Mixed with vacha, kushtha, and sandal, traversed by Vishnu.
दध्यक्षतं मधुयुतमेवमर्घ्यं च साधयेत्
Prepare the arghya with curd, unbroken rice, and honey.
अव्रणं कलशं कृत्वा पञ्चवर्णसमन्वितम्
Make the pot without blemish, adorned with five colors.
आयाहि भगवन्देव तोयमूर्ते जलेश्वर 2.2.12.
Come, O Lord, O divine one, water-formed, Lord of waters.
गृहेभ्यश्चैव सोमाय त्वष्ट्रे चैव च शूलिने
From the houses, for Soma, for Tvashtri, and for the wielder of the trident.
ततोर्घ्यदानं विधिवत्क्षीरेण हविषा मधु
Then, according to the rule, offer arghya with milk, clarified butter, and honey.
