आसनं पूजयेत्पूर्वं धर्मेणापि स्वशक्तितः
First, one should worship the seat, according to righteousness and to one's ability.
आधारशक्तिं पृथिवीं पूजयेत्तत्र पङ्कजम्
There, one should worship the lotus as the supporting power and the earth.
सितचन्दनयुक्तेन श्वेतपुष्पं प्रगृह्य च
Taking a white flower with white sandalwood,
आवाह्य चासनं दद्यात्ततः पाद्यादिकत्रयम्
Having invoked, one should offer the seat, then the threefold offerings of water for washing the feet and so on.
अस्य मन्त्रस्य च ऋषिश्छन्दो गायत्रमीरितम्
For this mantra, the seer and the meter called Gāyatrī are declared.
मंदरं विजयं सोमं महादेवं च माधवम्
Mandara, Vijaya, Soma, Mahādeva, and Mādhava.
जया च विजया चैव सत्या माया शिवांबिका
Jayā and Vijayā, Satyā, Māyā, Śivā, and Ambikā.
पुष्पाञ्जलित्रयं दद्याद्वास्तोष्पतय इत्यपि
One should offer three handfuls of flowers, known as vāstoṣpati.
वास्तोष्पते भव मते इति ध्यात्वा ऋतं चेति मंत्रेण पूजयेत्
Meditating with the mantra 'vāstoṣpate bhava mate iti dhyātvā ṛtaṃ ceti', one should worship.
सूर्यश्च देवता ख्यातः प्रीणितः कुलिशायुधः 2.2.11.
The deity known as Sūrya is pleased, wielding the thunderbolt weapon.
रक्तपद्मद्वयधरं कुंडलाद्यैः सुशोभितम्
Holding two red lotuses, adorned beautifully with earrings and other ornaments.
हंसस्य इति मंत्रस्य ऋषिरौतथ्य ईरितः
For the mantra 'haṃsasya', the sage is Autathya, as declared.
नीलोत्पलद्वयधरं सत्यं मृत्यूपरिस्थितम्
Holding two blue lotuses, true, situated above death.
स्वं मदात्वमिति मन्त्रेण श्वेतचन्दनपुष्पकैः
With the mantra 'svaṃ madātvamiti', using white sandalwood and flowers.
उद्धर्षण इति मंत्रेण कृष्णपुष्पैरथार्चयेत् सविता चैव विज्ञेयः प्रीतये च वृषस्य च
With the mantra 'uddharṣaṇa', one should worship with black flowers; Savitā should be understood for the pleasure of the bull.
शुल्कवर्णं तथाकाशमृष्टिसंघैश्च संस्तुतम्
Of tawny color, and the sky, praised by groups of sages.
शन्नो देवीति पठनाद्गन्धपुष्पादिभिर्यजेत् देवता च भवेच्चाग्निराकाशप्रीतये न्यसेत्
By reciting 'śanno devi', one should worship with fragrance, flowers, and so on; the deity is Agni, and for the pleasure of the sky, one should place.
ध्वजहस्तमहाबाहुं मरुद्भिश्चोपसेवितम्
With a banner in hand, mighty arms, attended by the Maruts.
राजान इति मन्त्रेण पूजयेत्सिततंडुलैः
With the mantra 'rājāna', one should worship with white rice grains.
देवता च भवेद्वायुः प्रीतये तस्य योजयेत् 2.2.11.
The deity is Vāyu; for his pleasure, one should join.
राजान इति च ऋचा पूजयेद्गन्धचन्दनैः देवता च भवेद्वायुः प्रीतये विनियोजयेत्
With the verse 'rājāna', one should worship with fragrant sandalwood; the deity is Vāyu, for his pleasure, one should assign.
वितथं श्यामवर्णं च चतुर्भिर्बाहुभिर्वृतम् मेषारूढं विशालाक्षं राजानो मह्यमीरयन्
Vitatha, of dark color, surrounded by four arms, mounted on a ram, with wide eyes, the kings praise him.
गृहक्षतं तथा शुक्लं चतुर्भिर्गर्दभैर्वृतम्
Gṛhakṣata, white in color, surrounded by four donkeys.
पीतवस्त्रधरं देवं जटामुकुटसंयुतम्
The deity wearing yellow garments, adorned with matted hair and a crown.
पुष्पदंत ऋषिस्त्रिष्टुप्छन्दश्च परिकीर्तितम्
Puṣpadaṃta is the seer, and Triṣṭubh is declared as the metre.
यमं ध्यायेत्कृष्णवर्णं महिषस्थं द्विबाहुकम्
One should meditate on Yama, dark in complexion, seated on a buffalo, with two arms.
ईशानेति च मन्त्रेण पूजयेत्कुसुमादिना
With the mantra 'īśāna', he should be worshipped with flowers and the like.
षडाननं च गन्धर्वं पीतं ध्यायेच्चतुर्भुजम्
One should meditate on the six-faced Gandharva, yellow in color, with four arms.
यद्देव इति मन्त्रेण पूजयेत्कुसुमादिना हिरण्यगर्भो देवतास्य प्रीतये विनियोजयेत्
With the mantra 'yaddeva', he should be worshipped with flowers and the like; Hiraṇyagarbha is the deity, to be invoked for his satisfaction.
भृङ्गराजं जटारूढं स्वच्छं पीतांबरं शुभम् 2.2.11.
One should contemplate Bhṛṅgarāja, matted-haired, pure, adorned with yellow garments, and auspicious.
