असुरं कृष्णं नागहारान्वितं पद्मासनस्थं ध्यात्वा
Meditating on the dark Asura, adorned with a serpent necklace, seated upon a lotus seat,
रोगं कृष्णं नीलेन्दीवरधरं श्वेतवृषभारूढं ध्यात्वा
Meditating on the dark disease, bearing the blue lily, mounted on a white bull,
वायुकोणादारभ्य पूजयेत् देवा इति मन्त्रस्य बृहती छन्दो यमो देवता नागप्रीतये विनियोगः
Beginning from the northwest, one should worship. The meter of the mantra is Brihati, Yama is the deity, and it is applied for the satisfaction of the serpents.
श्वेतं सोमं श्वेतवर्णासनस्थं ध्यात्वा भद्रबीजेन पूजयेत्
Meditating on the white Soma, seated on a white-colored seat, one should worship with bhadrabīja.
रक्तं भल्लाटं पीतवाससं ध्यात्वा वह्निबीजेन पूजयेत्
Meditating on the red Bhallāta, wearing yellow garments, one should worship with vahnibīja.
रक्तां दितिं नागहारान्वितां रक्तपद्मासनस्थां ध्यात्वा
Meditating on the red Diti, adorned with a serpent necklace, seated on a red lotus seat,
मानो त्वा इति मंत्रस्य भार्गव ऋषिः पंक्तिश्छन्दः पृथिवी देवता दितिप्रीतये विनियोगः
For the mantra 'māno tvā', Bhārgava is the seer, Paṅkti is the meter, Pṛthivī is the deity, and it is applied for the satisfaction of Diti.
अदितिं पीतवर्णां सिंहारूढां पीतांबरधरां ध्यात्वा 2.2.10.
Meditating on Aditi, golden in color, mounted on a lion, wearing yellow garments,
एवं यथा विधायाथ होमं कुर्याद्यथाविधि
Thus, having performed as prescribed, one should then conduct the homa according to the proper method.
तडागयागपक्षे तु सुवर्णं चार्धमेव वा
In the case of the Taḍāga-yāga, one should offer gold or even half that amount.
पूजाक्रमवर्णनम् उत्तरे पश्चिमे वाथ पूर्वे चापि समाचरेत्
Description of the order of worship: One should perform it in the north, west, or also in the east.
नदीतीरे नेमिप्रांते दशद्वादशसंख्यया
On the riverbank or at the edge of a circle, in numbers of ten or twelve.
त्रिभागं विभजेत्क्षेत्रं मध्यभागद्वयेन तु
One should divide the field into three parts, with the middle consisting of two portions.
उत्तराशे दक्षिणे चारत्निहस्तांतरेऽपि च
In the northern and southern directions, at a distance of one aratni (forearm's length),
मूले सार्धं च शुक्लां च मेखलां तु तथैव च
At the root, together with the white one, and likewise the girdle (mekhalā).
षट्सप्तांगुलिकां योनिं पश्चिमे मेखलोपरि
A yoni (symbolic diagram) of six or seven finger-breadths should be made on the west, above the girdle.
श्राद्धं वृद्ध्यात्मकं कुर्यात्संकल्पं मानसं चरेत्
One should perform the śrāddha for prosperity, and undertake the resolve mentally.
गयाश्राद्धार्थकं चाष्टतीर्थश्राद्धार्थमेव च
And for the purpose of Gayā-śrāddha, and likewise for the eight-tīrtha śrāddha.
मध्ये कुण्डे महांश्चैव विष्णुदेवं दिगीश्वरान्
In the center of the altar, one should visualize the great god Vishnu and the guardians of the directions.
प्राणायामं विधायाथ भूतशुद्धिं समाचरेत् 2.2.11.
Then, having performed breath control, one should carry out the purification of the elements.
श्वेतं चतुर्भुजं शांतं कुण्डलाद्यैरलंकृतम्
He is white, four-armed, peaceful, adorned with earrings and other ornaments.
पितृवैश्वानरोपेतं कुटिलभ्रूपशोभितम्
He is accompanied by the Pitṛs and Vaiśvānara, his curved brows shining beautifully.

Having entered the fire at the crown of the head, the vital air is established in the mouth.
वक्षस्थले ऽपरां संध्यां यजेच्चैव यथाविधि
On the chest, one should worship the evening twilight according to the proper method.
सर्पेन्द्रावासनस्थौ च वामे दक्षं विभावयेत्
On the seat of the serpent king, on the left side, one should visualize Dakṣa.
रुद्रश्च राजयक्ष्मा च वामहस्ते व्यवस्थितौ
Rudra and Rājayakṣmā are established in the left hand.
उभौ ज्ञेयौ तथा जान्वोरुभौ गन्धर्वपुष्पकौ
Both should be known at the knees, and at both thighs are the Gandharva Puṣpaka.
जयशक्रौ तथा मेढ्रे पदयोः पितरस्तथा
Jaya and Śakra are at the genitals, and the ancestors are at the feet.
मन्दरं दीर्घयुक्तेन षडङ्गानि समाचरेत्
With the long Mandara, one should perform the six limbs.
वास्त्वीशाय विद्महेति तन्नो विष्णुः प्रचोदयात् 2.2.11.
