त्रिहस्ता पिंडिका कार्या चतुरस्रा उदक्प्लवा
A platform three hands in length should be made, square and surrounded by water.
मध्ये संमार्जयेद्विद्वान्पादान्नव यथाक्रमात्
In the center, the learned one should sweep, starting from the feet, in the proper order.
पञ्चकं युग्मपादेन चतुर्दिक्षु ततः परम्
Five should be made with the even foot, then in the four directions, further on.
चतुष्कोणं बहिः कुर्यात्कोणे चापि चतुष्टयम्
One should make a quadrangle outside, and four in the corners as well.
चत्वारिंशत्पञ्चयुता मिलित्वा वास्तुदेवताः
Forty-five Vastu deities, assembled together.
सूर्यः सत्यो वृषश्चैव आकाशं वायुरेव च
The Sun, Satya, the Bull, and likewise Space and Wind.
गन्धर्वो मृगराजस्तु मृगाः पितृगणास्तथा
The Gandharva, the king of beasts, the animals, and also the groups of ancestors.
असुरः पशुपाशौ च रोगो हि मोक्ष एव च
The Asura, the two guardians of cattle, disease, and indeed liberation.
बहिर्द्वादश इत्येतानीशानादीन्यथाक्रमम् 2.2.10.
Outside, twelve in number, these from Ishana onward, in order.
आपश्चैवाथ सावित्रो जयो रुद्रस्तथैव च
And also the Waters, Savitri, Victory, and likewise Rudra.
मित्रोऽथ राजयक्ष्मा च सप्तमः पृथिवीधरः
Then Mitra, and the royal consumption, and the seventh, the supporter of the earth.
पूर्वादिषु तथा पूज्या गन्धपुष्पैः पृथग्विधैः
In the eastern directions and others, they are likewise to be worshipped with various kinds of fragrances and flowers.
मिलित्वा ऊनपञ्चाशदुत्तमा वास्तुदेवताः
Having assembled, the excellent vastu deities, numbering forty-nine or less.
बहिः कोणे चरक्यादि चरकं च विदारिकाम्
On the outer corners, Caraka and others, as well as Caraka and Vidarika.
स्वैःस्वैर्मंत्रैश्च गंधाद्यैः पूजयेत्कुसुमादिना
One should worship them with their respective mantras, with fragrances and flowers and the like.
रेखाः सर्वत्र शुक्लेन पद्मं रक्तेन भावयेत्
Lines everywhere should be drawn in white, and the lotus should be visualized in red.
देववर्णानथो वक्ष्ये यथावदनुवर्णिताः
Now I shall describe the divine colors, as they have been properly recounted.
पीतः शुक्लश्च धर्मश्च पूषा रक्तः प्रकीर्तितः
Yellow, white, and dharma; Pūṣā is said to be red.
पीतो भृंगः पुनः शुक्लः कृष्णः शुक्लस्तथैव च 2.2.10.
Yellow is for Bhṛṅga, again white; black, and likewise white.
धूम्रपीतो रक्तपीतः शुक्लः कृष्णश्च श्यामकः
Smoky-yellow, red-yellow, white, black, and dark-hued.
शुक्लशोणं पुनः श्वेतं सिंदूराभं प्रकीर्तितम्
White-red, again white, and that which is said to resemble vermilion.
शुक्लपीतं च श्वेतं च गौरं चेत्यष्टवर्णकम्
White-yellow, and white, and tawny—thus, eight colors.
धरणीमदनं वाद्ये शंभुवर्णादिप्रक्रमात्
The earth's delight is in the musical instrument, beginning with the color of Śambhu and others.
मध्येंते ऊनपञ्चाशत्सर्वं च वास्तुकर्मणि
In the middle and at the end, forty-nine in all, in every vastu ritual.
महाकूपे तथा श्वेतो अन्यत्रापि प्रशस्यते
In the great pit, likewise, white is praised, and elsewhere as well.
दश पूर्वायता रेखा दश चैवोत्तरायताः
Ten lines are drawn to the east, and ten likewise to the north.
सर्ववास्तुविभागेन विज्ञेया नवका नव
By the division of all vastu, nine by nine should be understood.
द्वात्रिंशद्बाह्यतः पूज्याः पूज्यागारे त्रयोदश
Thirty-two are to be worshipped outside, and thirteen in the worship chamber.
चतुर्दिक्षु षट्पदं तु त्रिपदं तु चतुष्पदम् चरक्यादि ततो हित्वा चत्वारिंशच्च पंचकम् 2.2.10.
In the four directions, place the six-footed, then the three-footed, and the four-footed; after that, leaving aside the charaka and others, set up forty-five.
अपरं मण्डलं वक्ष्ये यथावदनुपूर्वशः
Now I shall describe another mandala, properly and in sequence.
