न कालनियमस्तत्र न वारनियमः क्वचित्
There is no restriction of time there, nor is there any rule regarding the day.
त्रिकालं पूजयेद्देवं दिवा रात्रौ विशेषतः
One should worship the deity three times a day, especially during day and night.
दिवा तिथेरलाभे तु न कुर्याद्विधिवद्व्रतम्
If the tithi does not occur during the day, the vow should not be performed according to rule.
सप्तमी सार्धयामं च रोहिणी वा न संस्पृशेत्
If the seventh day extends into half a yama, or if Rohini does not coincide, it should not be observed.
प्रागारंभं प्रकुर्वीत अधिमात्राधिके व्रती
If the vow exceeds the prescribed measure, one should begin earlier.
यत्र तत्रोपवासी स्याद्यामाष्टकव्रतं चरेत्
Wherever fasting is required, there one should observe the Yamashtaka vow.
तत्परे चाऽन्नजन्यं वा न कुर्यात्पारणं गृही
Afterwards, one should not break the fast with food produced from grains.
नक्षत्रयोगे ग्रहणे पूजयेत्परमेश्वरम्
When the lunar mansion coincides with an eclipse, one should worship the Supreme Lord.
दिवाष्टम्यां मुहूर्ते वा प्राजापत्येन संयुतम् 2.2.8.
On the daytime Ashtami, or at the proper muhurta, joined with Prajapatya—
मुहूर्तांते च मासांते अष्टम्यामपि रोहिणी
At the end of the muhurta, or at the end of the month, if Ashtami coincides with Rohini—
नवम्यां च सदा पूज्याः प्रतिमासेऽयुतं द्विजाः
And on the ninth day, always, in every month, worship should be performed, O twice-born.
कार्तिकस्य तु मासस्य दशमी शुक्लपक्षिका
In the month of Kartika, the tenth day of the bright fortnight—
दशमी ज्येष्ठमासस्य सा चेद्दशहरा स्मृता
The tenth day of the month of Jyeshtha is known as Dashahara.
एकादशी व्रतपरा सर्वपापप्रणाशिनी
The Ekadashi vow, devotedly observed, destroys all sins.
दशम्यामेकभक्तस्तु संयतः स्याज्जितेन्द्रियः
On the tenth day, one should eat only once, remaining restrained and having conquered the senses.
द्वादश द्वादशीर्हन्ति तस्मात्तथाचरेद्बुधः
Twelve twelfth days are destroyed; therefore, the wise should act accordingly.
न वर्धते द्वादशी तु तदा त्वेवं व्यवस्थितिः
The twelfth day does not increase; thus, this is the established rule.
पूर्वेवैकादशी त्याज्या वर्धते चेत्तिथिद्वयम्
The earlier eleventh day should be abandoned if both dates increase.
यदा तु पारणा योग्या द्वादशी नोपतिष्ठते 2.2.8.
When the time for breaking the fast is suitable, the twelfth day does not occur.
एकादशी कलायुक्ता सकला द्वादशी यदि
If the eleventh day is joined with its portion and the twelfth day is complete,
एकादशी द्वादशी च परेऽहनि न लभ्यते
The eleventh and twelfth days are not obtained on the following day.
एकादशी दशाविद्धा द्वादश्यां लिप्तिका यदा तदा दिनद्वये त्याज्या पारणं च नियोगतः
When the eleventh day is pierced by the tenth, and there is a small portion on the twelfth, then both days should be abandoned, and breaking the fast is prescribed.
षोडशीग्रहणं दृष्ट्वा द्वादशी लुप्तपारणा
Seeing the acceptance of the sixteenth, the twelfth day loses the breaking of the fast.
त्रयोदश्यां यद्विहितं पारणं न तु पुण्यदम्
Whatever breaking of the fast is prescribed on the thirteenth day, it does not confer merit.
यदि रुद्रा दशमित्रा परेऽह्निरविसंक्रमः
If Rudra and ten friends remain on the next day without passing away,
वज्रालोकनमात्रं तु दशमी संविशेद्यदि
If the tenth day enters only for a moment like a flash of lightning,
तदा चेद्दशमीविद्धा समुपोष्या न दूषणम्
Then, if the tenth day is pierced, it should be observed; there is no fault.
द्वादश्यामुपवासं तु यः करोति नरोत्तमः
The best of men who observes a fast on the twelfth day,
उपोष्य दशमीमित्रां मोहादेकादशीं नरः 2.2.8.
Having fasted on the tenth with friends, if a man, out of delusion, observes the eleventh day,
रविवारे शुक्रवारे संक्रान्त्यां तु दिनक्षये
