पदचित्रे तु सार्द्धं स्याद्ग्रीवाणां गुह्यधारणे
For painting the feet, half; for wearing around the neck or loins.
लवणे तु तथा देया गुवाकानां च रोपणे
For salt, likewise should be given; and for planting guvāka trees.
पणद्वयं वराटानामधिकं दशमेव तु
For two paṇas, for varāṭas, and for more, ten in number.
पणत्रयं चक्रपणे महिषाणां पणाधिकम् 2.2.4.
Three paṇas for making wheels, and more paṇas for buffaloes.
दासीनां गर्दभानां च अधिकं काकिणीद्वयात्

One should use a white garment, ensuring it is not too short, and increase its length if it is too fine.
वेतनं पुष्पसंस्कारे सहस्रं दशकाकिणी
For the offering of flowers, the fee is one thousand or ten kākiṇīs.
अबद्धे द्व्यंगुलं यावन्मुण्डमाला प्रकीर्तिता
If not tied, the garland of shaven heads is said to be two finger-widths in length.
काकिणीकत्रयं चैव निर्माणे द्विजसत्तमाः
For its making, O best of twice-born, three kākiṇīs are to be given.
तदर्धार्धं मारुतेन दमने बकुलस्य च
Half of half that amount is prescribed for the use of maruta and for the bakula flower.
यामेयामे रौप्यमाषं स्नेहे चैव तु काकिणी
For each yāma (three-hour period), a silver māṣa is required, and for oil, a kākiṇī.
षडंगुलेन दैर्घ्यं च न न्यूनं नाधिकं भवेत्
Its length should be six finger-widths—neither less nor more.
पञ्चाङ्गुलेन मानेन कर्तव्यः सुसमाहितः 2.2.4.
With a measure of five finger-widths, one should carefully make it.
त्रिहस्ते चतुर्हस्ते वा उत्तमं मानमीरितम्
A length of three or four cubits is declared to be the best measure.
ताम्रे चायुःक्षयकरमायसे दुर्गतिप्रदः
A vessel of copper shortens life, and one of iron brings misfortune.
दीपाधारं कांस्यमयं तथारीतिमयस्य च
A lamp-holder should be made of bronze, and likewise for one made of tin.
दशाङ्गधूपके मूल्यं विंशके तु पणत्रयम्
For a ten-wicked incense holder, the price is three paṇas; for a twenty-wicked one, the same.
हस्ते पंचप्रमाणं च वस्त्रैः कुर्याच्च वर्तिकाम्
With a measure of five hand-spans, one should make the wick using cloth.
कलशनिर्णयवर्णनम् सूत उवाच यस्यार्पिते च मांगल्ये यात्रासिद्धिश्च जायते

सप्ताङ्गं कलशे ज्ञेयं पञ्चाङ्गमथ वा पुनः
The pot is to be known as having seven parts, or alternatively, five parts.
अथ वाक्षतपुष्पेषु देवमावाह्य पूजयेत्
Then, with unbroken rice and flowers, one should invoke and worship the deity.
वटस्याश्वत्थवृक्षस्य धातकीबिल्वकस्य च
Of the banyan, the sacred fig, the dhātakī, and the bilva trees—
सौवर्णा राजता वापि ताम्राद्या मृन्मयास्तथा
Made of gold, silver, copper, or even clay—
अभेद्याः सुषमाः प्लक्षाः सर्वे आद्याः सुपूरिताः
The foremost fig trees are all unbreakable, well-formed, and fully grown.
एक त्रिंशाङ्गुलं कुर्यात्कालाहे द्विगुणं शतम्
One should make a measure of thirty-one fingers; in the case of a time-measure, it is twice a hundred.
तैजसैः कारयेन्मानं मृन्मये मानमुच्यते
The measure should be made of gold; the measure made of clay is also prescribed.
कलशस्थापनं वक्ष्ये यत्र सन्निहिताः सुराः
