मंडलं बिंबराजस्य अष्टोत्तरदलैर्वृतम्
The maṇḍala of the Sun's orb is to be surrounded by one hundred and eight petals.
त्र्यृतुपत्रं सुवृत्तं स्याद्वृत्तयुक्तं सबिल्वकम्
It should be a well-formed triple-leafed circle, round and furnished with bilva leaves.
शतं विंशाधिकशतं द्विशतं विंशमुत्तमम्
One hundred, one hundred and twenty, two hundred, and the excellent two hundred and twenty.
लवल्याभमथो वक्ष्ये सार्द्धहस्तप्रमाणतः 2.2.2.
Now I will describe the one resembling a lavalī, measuring one and a half hands.
दक्षिणोत्तरतश्चैव तद्वदेव विजानीहि
Likewise, know it to be so on the south and north sides.
ग्रहपक्षेन्नपीतेन मध्ये रक्तं प्रतिष्ठितम्
With the planetary side not darkened, place red in the center.
सशांतिके न योक्तव्यं कामे रक्तं विनिर्दिशेत्
It should not be used with śāṃtika rites; for kāma rites, specify red.
शुक्लवर्णेन तत्कुर्यात्पीतवर्णमुदस्य च
One should make it with white color, omitting the yellow color.
पूर्वस्यां दिशि शुक्रस्य पङ्कजं शुभ्रवर्णकम्
In the eastern direction, for Śukra, a lotus of pure white color.
राहोः प्रकल्पयेत्तच्च केतोरपि नियोजयेत्
This should be assigned for Rāhu, and also employed for Ketu.
विलोमे दलसन्धीनि पूरयत्सुविचक्षणः
In the reverse order, the joints of the leaves should be filled by the wise.
पूर्वपश्चिमदिग्भागे शुक्लं स्याद्द्वारदेशतः
In the eastern and western parts, white should be at the doorway area.
त्रिस्थाने सममध्ये च द्वादशांगुलप्रक्रमात्
In three places and in the very center, measuring twelve finger-widths.
पञ्चाब्जमण्डलं ज्ञेयं चतुःस्वस्तिकभूषितम् ।। 2.2.2.
The five-lotus maṇḍala should be known, adorned with four svastikas.
मूल्यकथनवर्णनम् अमानेन हतो यज्ञस्तस्मान्मानं प्रशस्यते
A sacrifice is ruined by incorrect measure; therefore, proper measure is praised.
यस्य यज्ञस्य यन्मानं तत्तु तेनैव योजयेत्
Whatever measure is prescribed for a sacrifice, that alone should be applied to it.
आचार्यहोतृब्रह्माणो विधिज्ञः सहकर्तृकः
The teacher, the hotṛ priest, the brāhmaṇa, and the one versed in ritual, together with assistants—
अशीतिभिर्वराटैश्च पण इत्यभिधीयते
Eighty varāṭas are called a paṇa.
राजतैश्चाष्टभिः स्वर्णं यज्ञादौ दक्षिणा स्मृता
Eight pieces of silver are considered the proper fee in the beginning of a sacrifice.
तुलस्यामलकीयागे सुवर्णैकं प्रचक्षते
For the worship of Tulasī or Āmalakī, one gold coin is prescribed.
नवमे कोटिहोमे च देवतानां च स्थापने
In the ninth koti-homa and in the installation of deities—
तडागे पुष्करिण्यां च अर्धार्धं परि कीर्तितम्
In a tank or a pond, half of the measure is declared.
जीवतश्च वृषोत्सर्गे गयाश्राद्धे तथैव च
In the release of a bull during one's lifetime, and likewise in the ancestral rite at Gayā—
दंपत्योश्च वृषोत्सर्गे मानमेकमुदाहृतम् 2.2.3.
For the release of a bull by a married couple, one measure is stated.
राज्ञः करग्रहे चैव दीक्षायां दान कर्मणि
When the king seizes property, and in the acts of initiation and giving—
ग्रहयागे प्रतिष्ठायां सुवर्णशतरत्तिकः
In the worship of planets and in consecration, a hundred times the gold measure is prescribed.
देवानां ब्राह्मणानां च दानं यस्य प्रकल्पितम्
Whatever gift is prescribed for the gods and for brāhmaṇas—
नानास्य किञ्चिद्दातव्यं संगभंगो भवेद्यतः
Nothing different should be given, for otherwise there would be a break in the sequence.
यज्ञेषु होमे यद्द्रव्यं काष्ठमाज्यादिकं च यत्
Whatever materials are used in sacrifices and offerings, such as wood, ghee, and the like—
