तस्य कल्पशतोद्भूतं पापं नाशयते धुवम्
It certainly destroys the sin accumulated over a hundred kalpas.
प्रमादाद्वा गृहे क्षेत्रे वृक्षाग्रे चापि भो द्विजाः
Whether by negligence, at home, in the field, or at the top of a tree, O twice-born ones,
पोषणात्कीर्तिमाप्नोति दर्शनात्पापविच्युतिः
By nourishing it, one attains fame; by seeing it, one is freed from sin.
मयूरो ब्रह्मणो मूर्तिर्वृषभश्च सदाशिवः 2.2.2.
The peacock is the form of Brahma, and the bull is always Sadashiva.
क्रौंचो नारायणो देवो व्याघ्रस्त्रिपुरसुंदरी
The crane is the god Narayana, and the tiger is Tripurasundari.
स्नातः पश्यति प्रत्यह्नि ग्रहदोषो न जायते
One who, having bathed, sees it daily does not incur planetary affliction.
अतः परं प्रवक्ष्यामि मंडले मंडलेष्वपि
Now, I shall further explain, even regarding each and every mandala.
तंडुलोत्थं यवोत्थं वा वर्ज्यं मकररोपणम्
Rice or barley that has sprouted should be avoided in the placement of the makara.
हरितालं सुभद्रं च सदा विघ्नं विवर्जयेत्
Haritala and subhadra should always be avoided as obstacles.
कांचन्याश्च प्रभेदं यच्छस्तं शुक्लगुणं द्विजाः
O twice-born, the division of gold is prescribed as possessing the white quality.
किंशुकस्य च पुष्पाणि शस्तं पीतं गुणं भवेत्
The flowers of the kimshuka tree are prescribed as having the yellow quality.
कुशीतं गुडकं चैव मंजिष्ठां पंचरंगकम्
Kusita, gudaka, manjistha, and pancharanga are to be used.
पुनर्नवायाः पत्रं च केशरस्य बकस्य च
The leaf of punarnava, and the pollen of bakā.
नागपाषाणकं चैव पुन्नागं दग्धपंचकम् 2.2.2.
Nāgapāṣāṇa, and punnāga, along with the five burnt substances.
कर्पूरं कुंकुमं चैव रोचनारोचनां श्रयेत्
Camphor and saffron, and also rocanā and its counterpart, should be used.
लाक्षां च यदि गृह्णीयात्तद्भर्जित्वा प्रदापयेत्
If one acquires lac, it should be roasted and then given.
धरणीं सदनस्थाने पञ्चधा विभजेद्बहिः
The ground at the site of the dwelling should be divided into five parts outside.
तर्जन्यमध्या पूर्वोत्थं विभजेद्वा समाहितः
With the forefinger and middle finger, or by rising from the east, one should divide, being attentive.
तृणमारभ्य सामान्ये शक्तो वा मध्यमादितः
Beginning with grass in the common area, or from the middle, one who is able may proceed.
अंगुल्यग्रे च विभजेत्सर्वकामार्थसिद्धये
At the tip of the finger, one should divide for the accomplishment of all desired aims.
सुभद्रं मण्डलं वक्ष्ये शुभदं शुभमादिशेत्
I shall describe the auspicious maṇḍala; let it be established as auspicious and bestowing good.
सार्धहस्तेन मानेन कुर्यान्मंण्डलमुत्तमम्
With a measure of half a hand, one should make the excellent maṇḍala.
कर्तुर्मध्यसहस्रस्य मध्यमा मध्यपर्वणि
At the middle of the thousand of the maker, at the middle joint of the middle finger.
रेखाद्वयांतरं यच्च मूलरेखां न चाश्रयेत् 2.2.2.
The space between two lines, and the root line, should not be used.
मध्ये निबध्य शंकुं च मुष्टिबाहुप्रमाणतः
In the center, a stake should be fixed, measured by fist and arm.
प्रकल्प्य कर्णिकादीनि मध्ये चाष्टदलं लिखेत्
Having prepared the core and other features, one should draw the eight-petaled form in the center.
पंचमं श्वेतवर्णेन बहिः कुर्यात्त्रिवेष्टनम्
The fifth should be made with a white color, and outside, a triple enclosure.
वेष्टयेच्छुक्लवर्णेन मध्ये कल्पलतां लिखेत्
One should encircle with white color, and in the center, draw the wish-fulfilling vine.
सर्वकार्येषु यज्ञेषु सर्वकल्याणमाप्नुयात्
In all undertakings and sacrifices, one attains all auspiciousness.
साधकानां हितार्थाय ईश्वरेणैव भाषितम्
For the welfare of practitioners, this has been spoken by the Lord Himself.
