देवाः पद्मासनस्थाश्च भविष्यंति वसंति च
The gods, seated on lotus thrones, will dwell and remain there.
अतो मंडलविच्छेदं यस्माद्दशगुणं भवेत्
Therefore, if the ritual circle is broken, the result becomes tenfold.
त्रिशतं वंदने साध्ये सहस्रं च रजोऽष्टकम्
For the worship, three hundred are to be offered, and a thousand for the eightfold dust.
यन्त्रे मणौ शालग्रामे प्रतिमायां विशेषतः
Especially in the yantra, the gem, the Śālagrāma, and the image.
रजोयुक्तं लिखेद्यस्तु पूजाकार्ये विभूतये
Whoever inscribes with dust for the purpose of worship, for prosperity,
चतुरस्रं नवं व्यूहं क्रौंचप्राणं चतु र्विधम्
The square, the ninefold arrangement, the Krauncha-prāṇa, and the fourfold type,
पारिजातं चंद्रबिंबं सूर्यकांतं च शेखरम्
The Pārijāta, the moon-disc, the Sūryakānta, and the crest,
पंचाब्जं चैव मैनाकं कामराजं च पुष्करम्
The five-lotus, the Maināka, the Kāmarāja, and the Puṣkara,
चत्वारिंशत्तथा पंचस्वाधिकं परिसंख्यया 2.1.21.
And forty-five in total, by enumeration.
प्रशस्तं चापि गोमेधे क्रौंचं घ्राणं चतुर्विधम्
Also, the excellent Gomedha, the Krauncha, the fourfold Ghrāṇa,
सर्वत्र सर्वतोभद्रं चतुरस्रं सुभद्रकम्
Everywhere, the Sarvatobhadra, the square, and the auspicious one.
शक्तानां कामपक्षे च पंचसिंहासनं महत्
For the capable, in the desire aspect, the great five-throned seat.
सहस्रं शतपत्रं च अन्नदाने तिलाचले
A thousand-petaled lotus in the gift of food, and at Tilācala.
प्रतिष्ठायां सुभद्रं च सर्वतोभद्रमेव च
At the installation, the auspicious one and the Sarvatobhadra as well.
घटप्रस्थापने चैव गजाह्वं तुरगासनम्
In the placing of the pot, the Gajāhva and the seat of the horse.
यस्य यज्ञस्य यद्बिंबं तत्तु तेनैव योजयेत्
Whatever image pertains to the sacrifice, that alone should be employed.
द्विहस्ता चतुरस्रा च वेदिका परिकीर्तिता
The altar is declared to be two cubits and square.
षडंगुला नवव्यूहे वर्धयेद्यज्ञकोविदः
In the ninefold arrangement, one skilled in sacrifice should increase it by six finger-breadths.
क्रौंचप्राणे तुर्यहस्तं मुष्टिहस्तं समुच्छ्रितम् 2.1.21.
In the Krauncha-prāṇa, it should be four cubits, and raised to a fist's height.
कुर्याद्द्वित्रिक्रमाद्धीनमुच्छ्राये द्विजसत्तमाः
O best of twice-born, the height should be made less by two or three steps.
ग्रहाणां पौष्टिके पक्षे बाह्यग्रामादिसाधने
On the nourishing side of the planets, in the establishment of outer villages and similar places,
प्रथमे मुष्टिहस्तः स्यात्संपूर्णे शेषमानकैः
At first, the hand should be in a fist; when full, use the remaining measures.
शेषा चैव वरिष्ठा च लवली भित्ति वेदिका
The remainder, as well as the most excellent, are lavalī, wall, and altar.
अयथाव्यत्यये दोषस्तस्माद्यत्नेन साधयेत्
If there is improper reversal, it is a fault; therefore, one should accomplish it with effort.
मुष्टिबाहुञ्च प्रादेशं वर्धयेत्षोडशांशके
One should increase the fist, arm, and span by one-sixteenth part.
दर्पणाकारकं कुर्याद्यागके शांति कर्मणि
One should make it in the form of a mirror for the purpose of sacrifice and peace rituals.
निशारणैर्गोमयैश्च वेदिकां च प्रलेपयेत्
With cow dung and night soil, one should smear the altar.
हीनवीर्यगवानां च पुरीषं धेनुकं तथा
The dung of cows with weak potency, and also that of she-asses,
वर्जयेत्सर्वयागेषु स्थंडिलेषु प्रयत्नतः 2.1.21.
Should be avoided in all sacrifices, especially on the altar, with great care.
तस्मात्प्रयत्नतः कार्यं यत्सूत्रं यच्च कीलकम्
Therefore, with effort, one should make whatever thread and whatever peg is required.
