कर्पूरचंदनैः कुर्याद्धोलिकां यज्ञसिद्धये
One should prepare the dholikā with camphor and sandalwood for the success of the sacrifice.
रक्तगुंजाफलैः संख्यां पुष्टिकामेषु योजयेत्
For those desiring nourishment, the count should be done with red gunja berries.
होता स्यादयुतेनापि एकाहे वेदसंख्यया
The hotṛ may be with ten thousand, or, for a one-day rite, according to the number of Vedas.
लक्षहोमे तु होतारः षडेव परिकीर्तिताः
But in a hundred-thousand oblation, only six hotṛs are mentioned.
नव पंच दशदशकं पंचविंशमथापि वा
Nine, five, ten, ten, or even twenty-five.
नवग्रहमखे विप्राश्चत्वारो वेदवेदिनः 2.1.20.
In the rite for the nine planets, O Brahmins, four knowers of the Vedas are required.
कार्यावयुतहोमे तु न प्रसज्येत विस्तरे
If the ritual cannot be performed in full, it should not be undertaken in an elaborate manner.
कर्तव्याः शक्तितस्तद्वच्चत्वारोऽपि विमत्सराः
As much as possible, four priests without envy should likewise be engaged.
एकमप्यर्चयेद्ब्रह्मा सहस्रे त्वेकब्राह्मणम्
Even if only one Brahmin is available, he should be worshipped as equivalent to a thousand Brahmins.
लक्षहोमस्तु कर्तव्यो यदा वित्तं भवेत्तदा
A hundred-thousand oblations should be performed when wealth is available.
पूज्यते शिवलोके च वस्वादित्यमरुद्गणैः
He is honored in Shiva's realm by the groups of Vasus, Adityas, and Maruts.
अकामो यस्त्विमं कुर्याल्लक्षहोमं यथाविधि
Whoever performs this hundred-thousand oblation ritual properly, without desire,
पुत्रार्थी लभते पुत्रं धनार्थी लभते धनम्
One seeking a son obtains a son; one seeking wealth obtains wealth.
भ्रष्टराज्यस्तथा राज्यं श्रीकामः श्रियमाप्नुयात्
One who has lost a kingdom regains it; one desiring prosperity attains prosperity.
निष्कामः कुरुते यस्तु परं ब्रह्माधिगच्छति
But one who performs it without desire attains the supreme Brahman.
आचार्य एव होता स्याद्ब्राह्मणानामसंभवे 2.1.20.
If Brahmins are not available, the teacher himself should serve as the officiating priest.
दर्भासनेऽतो न कुशे तृणे पत्त्रे त्वचेऽपि च
Therefore, one should not sit on darbha grass, kusa grass, straw, leaves, or bark.
तत्र दारुमयं कुर्यादागमं भजते द्विजः
In that case, the twice-born should make a wooden seat, as prescribed in the tradition.
द्विजसंस्कारकार्येषु पूर्णादौ चापि दक्षिणा
In rites for the sacraments of the twice-born, and at the completion, a gift should also be given.
मण्डलविधिवर्णनम् यदधीना भवेत्सिद्धिस्तस्मात्कुर्यात्समाहितः
The success of the ritual depends on what is prescribed; therefore, one should perform it with concentration.
देवाः पद्मासनस्थाश्च भविष्यंति वसंति च
The gods, seated on lotus thrones, will dwell and remain there.
अतो मंडलविच्छेदं यस्माद्दशगुणं भवेत्
Therefore, if the ritual circle is broken, the result becomes tenfold.
त्रिशतं वंदने साध्ये सहस्रं च रजोऽष्टकम्
For the worship, three hundred are to be offered, and a thousand for the eightfold dust.
यन्त्रे मणौ शालग्रामे प्रतिमायां विशेषतः
Especially in the yantra, the gem, the Śālagrāma, and the image.
रजोयुक्तं लिखेद्यस्तु पूजाकार्ये विभूतये
Whoever inscribes with dust for the purpose of worship, for prosperity,
चतुरस्रं नवं व्यूहं क्रौंचप्राणं चतु र्विधम्
The square, the ninefold arrangement, the Krauncha-prāṇa, and the fourfold type,
पारिजातं चंद्रबिंबं सूर्यकांतं च शेखरम्
The Pārijāta, the moon-disc, the Sūryakānta, and the crest,
पंचाब्जं चैव मैनाकं कामराजं च पुष्करम्
The five-lotus, the Maināka, the Kāmarāja, and the Puṣkara,
चत्वारिंशत्तथा पंचस्वाधिकं परिसंख्यया 2.1.21.
And forty-five in total, by enumeration.
