स्रुवं स्रुचमथो वक्ष्ये यदधीनश्च जायते
Now I shall explain the ladle and the spoon, and that which is dependent on them.
तस्यादौ च स्रुवं वक्ष्ये यच्च मानं यदास्पदम्
First, I shall describe the ladle, its measurement, and its foundation.
समुपोष्य च रचयेदामिषाणि न च स्मरेत्
Having fasted, one should prepare the implements, and not recall (other matters).
काष्ठं गृहीत्वा विभजेद्भागांस्त्रिंशत्तथा पुनः
Taking the wood, one should divide it into thirty parts, and then again.
कटाहाकारनिम्नं च स्रुवं कुर्याद्विचक्षणः
A skilled person should make the ladle with a depression like a bowl.
वेदीं शूर्पाकृतिं कुर्यात्कुंडानि परिकल्पयेत्
One should make the altar in the shape of a winnowing basket, and arrange the fire-pits.
स्रुवं चतुर्विंशतिभिर्भागैश्च रचयेद्ध्रुवम् 2.1.19.
The ladle should be made firmly with twenty-four parts.
चतुर्भिरंगैरानाहं कर्षाद्यग्रं ततः स्रुवम्
With four sections, starting from the weight and the tip, then the ladle.
दंडमूलाश्रये दंडी भवेत्कंकणभूषितः
Relying on the staff as the foundation, one should be a staff-bearer adorned with a bracelet.
श्रैवर्णिकोद्भवं यच्च इंदुवृक्षसमुद्भवम्
That which is produced from the Śraivaṇa tree, and that which arises from the moon-plant—
द्वयंगुलं मंडलं तस्य दर्वी सा यज्ञसाधने
Its bowl should be two fingers in diameter; such is the ladle used in sacrificial rites.
पंचांगुलं मंडलं च अष्टहस्तं च दंडकम्
The bowl should be five fingers wide, and the handle should be eight hands in length.
दशतोलकमानेन सा च दर्वी उदाहृता
That ladle is prescribed to weigh ten tolakas.
षोडशांगुलमानेन सर्वाभावे च पैप्पलीम्
In the absence of all, a paippalī (long pepper wood) measuring sixteen fingers is to be used.
अथ ताम्रमयी कार्या न च तां तत्र योजयेत्
Then, one may make it of copper, but that should not be used there.
इति श्रीभविष्ये महापुराणे मध्यम पर्वणि प्रथमभागे स्रुवदर्वीनिर्णयो नामैकोनविंशोऽध्यायः
Thus, in the glorious Bhavishya Mahapurana, in the middle section, in the first part, the nineteenth chapter named 'Determination of the Sruva and Ladle' is concluded.
पूर्णविधिवर्णनम् यस्य सम्यगनुष्ठानात्संपूर्णं स्यादिति स्थितिः
Description of the complete rite: The rule is that, by its proper performance, completeness is attained.
होमपूर्तौ मोक्षकल्पः पूजांतेऽर्घ्यं विधीयते
In the rites of oblation and fulfillment, the rule for liberation is that arghya is offered at the end of worship.
तस्मात्सर्वप्रयत्नेन स्रुवाधो विन्यसेच्चरुम्
Therefore, with all effort, one should place the ladle below and set the charu (offering).
गृहं प्रविश्य च ततः कुलपूजां समाचरेत्
Then, entering the house, one should perform the family worship.
नियोजयेत्प्रतिष्ठायां नित्यनैमित्तिके शृणु
One should appoint (the offering) at the time of installation, both for daily and occasional rites; listen.
सप्ततेति द्वितीया स्याद्देहिमेति तृतीयिका
'Seventy' is the second (offering); 'give' is the third.
उत्थाय दद्यात्पूर्णां तु नोपविश्य कदाचन
One should rise and offer the full (oblation), never while sitting.
ग्रहहोमे शतांते च पूर्णा एका विधीयते
In the graha-homa, at the end of a hundred, one full (oblation) is prescribed.
सहस्रांते ददेदेकं पुष्पहोमे च सत्तमाः
At the end of a thousand, one should give one (oblation); in the flower-offering, the seventh.
मृदुपुष्पाकृतौ त्वेका केवले चेक्षुहोमके 2.1.20.
In the mild flower-shaped offering, one (oblation) is prescribed; in the exclusive sugarcane-offering, likewise.
सीमंतोन्नयने चैव प्रायश्चित्ताकृतीषु च
In the simantonnayana rite and in expiatory rituals as well,
एवं स्रुचौ समौ कृत्वा उपर्युपरि विन्यसेत्
Thus, having prepared two ladles, one should place them one above the other.
ऋषिछंदादिकं श्रुत्वा प्रतिमंत्रस्य सत्तमाः
Having heard the ṛṣi, chandas, and other details, O best of men, for each mantra,
सप्ततेति ब्राह्मणस्य ऋषिः कौंडिन्य ईरितः
For the mantra 'saptate', the seer is declared to be Kaundinya for the brāhmaṇa.
