देवीदेवा मुदं यांति यस्य सम्यक्समागमात्
Gods and goddesses rejoice from proper union with you.
त्वं विष्णुस्त्वं हि ब्रह्मा च ज्योतिषां गतिरीश्वर
You are Viṣṇu, you are indeed Brahmā, the goal of the lights, O Lord.
देवतानां पितॄणां च सुखमेकं सनातनम् 2.1.16.
You are the one eternal happiness of the gods and ancestors.
त्वमेकः सर्वभूतेषु स्थावरेषु चरेषु च
You alone exist in all beings, both stationary and moving.
नमोऽस्तु यज्ञपतये प्रभवे जातवेदसे
Salutations to the Lord of sacrifice, to the mighty Jātavedas.
हुताशन नमस्तुभ्यं नमस्ते रुक्मवाहन
O Hutāśana, salutations to you; salutations to you, O golden-rayed one.
इत्यनेन तु मन्त्रेण दद्याद्दिव्येऽप्यधीतकम्
With this very mantra, one should offer even in a divine recitation.
अग्निवर्णनम् यथावेदानुसारेण यथाग्रहण योजनम्
Description of Agni: According to the Vedic tradition, as is the method of acceptance, so is the application.
शतार्धे वह्निरुद्दिष्टः शतार्धे काश्यपः स्मृतः
In the half-hundred, fire is prescribed; in the half-hundred, Kāśyapa is remembered.
सहस्रे ब्राह्मणो नाम अयुते हरिरुच्यते
In the thousand, he is called Brāhmaṇa; in the ten thousand, he is called Hari.
वरुणः शांतिके ज्ञेयो मारणे ह्यरुणः स्मृतः
Varuṇa is to be known in rites for peace; in rites for destruction, Aruṇa is remembered.
लोहितश्चान्नयज्ञे यो ग्रहाणां प्रत्यनुक्रमात्
He who is red in the food-sacrifice is so according to the respective order of the grahas.
प्रजापतिर्वास्तुयागे मंडपे चापि पद्मके
Prajāpati is in the house-sacrifice and also in the lotus-shaped pavilion.
गोदाने च भवेद्रुद्रः कन्यादाने तु गोऽजकः
In the gift of cows, he becomes Rudra; in the gift of a maiden, he is Go'jaka.
वृषोत्सर्गे भवेत्सूर्योऽवसानांते रविः स्मृतः
In the release of the bull, he becomes Sūrya; at the end of the rites, he is remembered as Ravi.
त्रासने च भवेत्कालः क्रव्यादः शरदाहने
In frightening, he becomes Kāla; in the burning of corpses, he is the flesh-eater.
गर्भाधाने च मरुतः सीमंते पिंगलः स्मृतः 2.1.17.
In conception, he is the Maruts; at the parting of the hair, he is remembered as Piṃgala.
नामसंस्थापने चैवमुपन्यस्ते च पार्थिवः
In the establishment of a name and in the investiture, he is the earthly one.
षडाननश्च चूडायां व्रतादेशे समुद्भवः
Ṣaḍānana is in the tonsure ceremony; in the vow, he is Samudbhava.
उदरे जठराग्निश्च समुद्रे वडवानलः
In the belly, he is the digestive fire; in the ocean, he is the submarine fire.
अश्वाग्निर्मंथरो नाम रथाग्निर्जातवेदसः
The fire of horses is called Manthara; the fire of chariots is Jātavedas.
तोयाग्निर्वरुणोनाम ब्राह्मणाग्निर्हविर्भुजः
The fire in water is called Varuṇa; the fire of Brāhmaṇas is the consumer of oblations.
दीपाग्निः पावको नाम गृह्याग्निर्धरणीपतिः
The lamp-fire is called Pāvaka; the household fire is the lord of the earth.
इति श्रीभविष्ये महापुराणे मध्यमपर्वणि प्रथमभागेऽग्निनामवर्णनंनाम सप्तदशोऽध्यायः
Thus, in the glorious Bhavishya Mahapurana, in the middle section, in the first part, the seventeenth chapter named 'Description of the Names of Fire' concludes.
होमद्रव्यकथनम् प्रमाणे चाप्रमाणे च निष्फलं भवति धुवम्
On the description of offerings for the fire ritual: Whether measured or unmeasured, it always becomes fruitless.
कर्षमात्रं घृतं होमे शुक्तिमात्रं पयः स्मृतम्
For the fire offering, clarified butter should be in the quantity of a karsha; milk is remembered as the quantity of a shell.
मुष्टिमानेन पृथुका लाजाः स्युर्मुष्टिसंमिताः
Flattened rice and popped grains should be in the measure of a fist, equal to a handful.
त्रितोलकं गुडं विद्यादिक्षुपर्ववि धिर्भवेत्
One should know that jaggery is three tolakas in measure; for the ritual of Ikshu, it should be so.
एकलग्ने न जुहुयान्न पृथग्जुहुयात्क्वचित्
One should not offer at a single conjunction; nor should one offer separately at any time.
एकैकशश्च पद्मानां जलजानां तथैव च
Likewise, each lotus and each aquatic plant should be offered one by one.
