गौडभूपस्य दुहिता नाम्ना दिव्यविभावरी
The daughter of the king of Gauda was named Divyavibhavari.
रूपयौवन संयुक्ता रतिकेलिविशारदा
She was endowed with beauty and youth, and skilled in the arts of love.
तस्यां जाता सुता देवी नाम्ना संयोगिनी शुभा
A daughter was born to her, the auspicious goddess named Saṃyoginī.
तस्याः स्वयंवरे राजाह्वयद्भूपान्महाशुभान् मंत्रिप्रवर भो मित्र चंद्रभट्ट मम प्रिय
At her svayaṃvara, the king invited the most noble kings, the chief minister, O friend, and Candrabhaṭṭa, my beloved.
कान्यकुब्जपुरीं प्राप्य मन्मूर्तिं स्वर्णनिर्मिताम् स्थापय त्वं सभामध्ये यद्वृत्तांतं तु मे वद ।। 3.3.6.
Arriving at Kānyakubja city, place my golden image in the midst of the assembly and tell me what transpired.
इति श्रुत्वा चंद्रभट्टो भवानीभक्तितत्परः
Hearing this, Candrabhaṭṭa, devoted to Bhavānī, became intent.
स्वयंवरे च भूपाश्च नानादेश्याः समागताः
At the svayaṃvara, kings from various regions gathered together.
पितरं प्राह कामाक्षी यस्य मूर्तिरियं नृप
Kāmākṣī spoke to her father, whose image this is, O king.
जयचंद्रस्तु तच्छ्रुत्वा चंद्रभद्रमुवाच तम्
Hearing this, Jayacandra spoke to Candrabhadra.
सञ्जयेद्योगिनीमेतां तर्हि मेऽतिप्रियो भवेत्
If this Yoginī is united, then she will be exceedingly dear to me.
पृथिवीराज एवासौ श्रुत्वा सैन्यमचोदयत्
The king of the earth, upon hearing this, ordered his army.
रथाः पंचसहस्राश्च धनुर्बाणविशारदाः
There were five thousand chariots, all skilled in bows and arrows.
राजानस्त्रिशतान्येव महीराजपदानुगाः
There were three hundred kings, followers of the royal rank.
धुन्धुकारश्च तद्बन्धुर्गजानीकपतिस्सदा

ईशनद्याः परे कूले तद्दोला स्थपिता तदा

रत्नभानुर्गजानीके रूपानीके हि लक्षणः

प्रद्योतश्चैव विद्योतो रत्नभानुं ररक्षतुः

हया हयैर्मृता जाता गजाश्चैव गजैस्तथा
Horses were slain by horses, and likewise, elephants were killed by elephants.
भूपैश्च रक्षिताः सर्वे निर्भया रणमाययुः 3.3.6.
All were protected by the kings and, fearless, entered the battle.
एवं पंचदिनं जातं युद्धं वीरजनक्षयम्
Thus, for five days, a battle took place, causing the destruction of heroes.
पंचलक्षं महीभर्तुर्हतास्तत्र पदातयः
There, five hundred thousand foot soldiers of the lord of the earth were slain.
कान्यकुब्जाधिपस्यैव गजा नवसहस्रकाः
Nine thousand elephants of the king of Kānyakubja were killed.
एकलक्षं हयास्तत्र मृताः स्वर्गपुरं ययुः
There, one hundred thousand horses died and went to the city of the gods.
दुःखितो मनसा देवं रुद्रं तुष्टाव भक्तिमान्
Grieved in his heart, the devoted one praised the god Rudra.
