वर्णस्य शबलत्वाच्च यमः कल्माष उच्यते
Because of the mottled nature of his color, Yama is called 'Kalmāṣa'.
स्थितो दक्षिणत तस्य दंडहस्तसमन्वितः
He stands to the south, holding a staff in his hand.
कुबेरो धनदो ज्ञेयो हस्तिरूपो विनायकः कुबेरः कुशरीरत्वात्स नाम्ना धनदः स्मृतः
Kubera, known as the giver of wealth, is recognized as having the form of an elephant; Kubera, due to his coarse body, is remembered by the name 'Dhanada'.
नायकः सर्वसत्त्वानां तेन नायक उच्यते
He is the leader of all beings, and thus is called 'Nayaka'.
रैवतश्चैव दिंडिश्च तौ रवेः पूर्वतः स्थितौ 1.124.
Raivata and Diṃḍi are both positioned to the east of the Sun.
प्लुतं गच्छत्यसौ यस्मात्सर्वलोकनमस्कृतः
Because he moves swiftly, he is honored by all worlds.
डीङ्गतावस्य वै धातोर्दिंडिशब्दो निपात्यते
Due to the peculiar state of the root, the word 'Diṃḍi' is applied.
इत्येते प्रवराः प्रोक्ता धात्वर्था नैगमैः शुभैः
Thus, these distinguished ones have been described, their meanings derived from auspicious Vedic sources.
अश्विनौ तौ ततो ज्ञेयौ दंडनायकपिंगलौ
After them, the two Ashvins are to be known as Daṃḍanāyaka and Piṃgala.
रेवतश्चैव दिंडिश्च इत्येते प्रवरा मया
Raivata and Diṃḍi—these distinguished ones have been described by me.
इत्येभिर्नामभिस्त्वन्ये दानवानां जिघांसया
By these names, others, with the intent to destroy the Dānavas, are also called.
सरूपाश्चान्यरूपाश्च विरूपाः कामरूपिणः
Some have similar forms, others different forms, and some are deformed, possessing forms as they desire.
धातुर्दिविति वै प्रोक्तो क्रीडायां स तु उच्यते
The root 'div' is spoken of in the context of play; thus it is so called.
ऋचो यजूंषि सामानि यान्युक्तानीह वै मया

ते श्रुत्वाराध्य देवेशं संसिद्धा दिवि संस्थिताः ।। 1.124.
Having heard them and worshipped the Lord of the gods, they attained perfection and are established in heaven.
इति श्रीभविष्ये महापुराणे ब्राह्मे पर्वणि सप्तमीकल्पे ब्रह्मर्षिसंवादे प्रवरवर्णनं नाम चतुर्विंशत्युत्तरशततमोऽध्यायः
Thus, in the glorious Bhaviṣya Mahāpurāṇa, in the Brāhma section, in the Saptamī Kalpa, in the dialogue of the Brahmarṣis, is the chapter named 'Description of the Distinguished Ones', the one hundred twenty-fourth.
पातालवर्णनम् ॐ नमः कमलदलनयनाभिरामाय स्वच्छं चंद्रावदातं कविकरमकरक्षोभसंजातफेनं बक्षोद्भूतिप्रसूक्तैर्व्रतनियमपरैः सेवितं विप्रमुख्यैः
Om, homage to the one delightful as lotus-petal eyes; pure and radiant as the moon, whose foam arises from the agitation of the poet's crocodile, served by foremost Brahmins with offerings born of vows and discipline.
१ जयति भुवनदीपो भास्करो लोककर्ता जयति च शितिदेहः शार्ङ्गधन्वा मुरारिः
Victory to the lamp of the worlds, the Sun, creator of beings; and victory to the one with a shining body, wielder of the Śārṅga bow, the enemy of Mura.
नमस्कृत्याप्रमेयाय देवाय ब्रह्मरूपिणे
Having bowed to the immeasurable one, the god who embodies Brahman,
पुराणसंहितां पुण्यां पप्रच्छू रौमहर्षणिम्
they questioned Romaharṣaṇa about the sacred collection of the Purāṇas.
मुनीनां वचनं श्रुत्वा सूतः पौराणिकोत्तमः । सूत उवाच नमस्कृत्य जगद्योनिं ब्रह्मरूपधरं हरिम्
Hearing the words of the sages, Sūta, the foremost among Purāṇic reciters, said: Having bowed to Hari, the source of the universe, who assumes the form of Brahman,
यच्छ्रुत्वा पापकर्माणि स गच्छेत्परमां गतिम्
whoever hears this, even if engaged in sinful deeds, attains the highest state.
भविष्यपुराणमखिलं यज्जगाद गदाधरः
This entire Bhaviṣya Purāṇa was spoken by Gadādhara.
धर्मप्रशंसनं चात्र ब्राह्मणादिप्रशंसनम्
Here is the praise of dharma and the praise of Brāhmaṇas and others.
प्रतिमाकरणं चैव स्थापनाचित्रलक्षणम् 2.1.1.
Also, the making of images, their installation, and the characteristics of painting.
पुराणलक्षणं चैव भूगोलस्य च निर्णयम्
Also, the characteristics of a Purāṇa and the determination of the earth's sphere.
मुमूर्षोरपि यत्कर्म दानमाहात्म्यमेव च
The actions for one who is dying, and the greatness of giving gifts.
उच्चावचावधानं च प्रायश्चित्तादिकं च यत्
The distinctions of higher and lower, and matters such as expiation.
पंचतंत्रसमायुक्तं प्रतितंत्रे च विंशतिः
It is joined with the five Tantras, and in each Tantra there are twenty.
त्रयाणामाश्रमाणां च गृहस्थो योनिरुच्यते
Of the three āśramas, the householder is said to be their source.
