Sumantu said: In the same way, on the fifth day of the month of Ashvina, O descendant of Kuru—
After bathing them with ghee, water, and milk, O lord of the people—
Whoever, pure and endowed with devotion, properly worships the Nagas on this day—
The Nagas become pleased here, and indeed, O mighty one, he attains peace.
Thus, O hero, this excellent procedure for the fifth day has been described, in which this mantra is recited to ward off all serpents.
Om kurukulle phat svaha.
Brahma said: He who stands beyond the sky—if he is fallen, he is released, O Rudra, even here, O Dindi.
Long ago, having taken up Brahma's head, he stood, and that skull became his.
When, naked, he was seen by the sages in the Daru forest, wandering for alms, that lord of the gods—Dindi left them and then went to the world of the Sun.
As he was coming, the Pramathas said to him: 'O lord of the gods, why do you always wander?'
Again, the Pramathas said to him: 'Thus, remain here itself, in front of the Sun.'
Thus addressed by the Pramathas, Rudra remained there itself to please the Sun.
He was addressed by Savitṛ, who was pleased, saying: 'I am delighted by your arrival among the gods.'
These eighteen Pramathas belong to Bhānu, and fourteen others are stationed in the chariot of Ravi.
Among Yakṣas and Siddhas, and among night-wandering beings, there are two sons of Āditya, who are chief among the Apsarases.
Thus, all these foremost gods become accomplished by words signifying the meaning of dhātu.
Therefore, O Brahman, curiosity arises among us here.
Brahma said: I will further tell you about Daṇḍanāyaka and Piṅgala.
In ancient times, together with me, the gods deliberated.
Having received boons, those ministers and others repeatedly became powerful.
Therefore, for the purpose of obstructing them, we became the foremost ones.
After deliberating thus, Skanda stood at the left side of Ravi.
He was then addressed by Arka: 'You are the chief enforcer of punishment among the people.'
He records the good and the bad deeds of the people.
The two Ashvins also stand on both sides of Sūrya.
They are remembered as the two mighty gatekeepers of that king.
The king is remembered as radiant; the dhātu 'na' is his affix. Therefore, Kārtikeya is remembered by the name 'king.'
The dhātu 'sru' signifies movement, and its affix is remembered.
The first gate is established for dharma and artha.
At the second enclosure, two unassailable ones are stationed.
