साह तां यदि मे मातर्वरो देयस्त्वयेश्वरि
She said, 'O Mother, if you will grant me a boon, O Sovereign Lady—'
तथेत्युक्त्वा तु सा देवी तत्रैवान्तरधीयत
The goddess replied, 'So be it,' and then vanished right there.
उद्वाह्य धर्मतो भूपः स्वगेहे तामवासयत्
The king, having married her according to righteousness, brought her to his own house.
आवार्यो वत्सराजश्च शतहस्तिसमो बले
The king named Āvārya was as strong as a hundred elephants.
शतयत्तः स्मृतो म्लेच्छः शूरो वनरसाधिपः
A Mleccha named Śatayatta, a heroic lord of the Vanaras, was renowned.
तालवृक्षप्रमाणेन .चोर्ध्ववेगो हि तस्य वै
His upward leap was equal in height to a palm tree.
ताभ्यां नृपाभ्यां तद्युद्धमभवल्लोमहर्षणम् 3.3.4.
A hair-raising battle took place between those two kings.
तदा मैत्री कृता ताभ्यां तालनेन समन्विता
Then, a friendship was made between them, accompanied by the giving of a palm tree.
पुत्रार्थं कारयामास शैवं यज्ञं विधानतः
For the sake of a son, he caused a Śaiva sacrifice to be performed according to the proper rites.
कन्यके च तदा जाते शिवभागप्रसादतः
Then, when a daughter was born by the grace of Śiva's share,
कान्यकुब्जाधिपायैव चंद्रकान्तिं पिताददत्
Her father gave Candrakānti to the lord of Kānyakubja.
सोमेश्वराय भूपाय चपहानिकुलाय तु
To Someśvara, the king, of the Apahāna lineage.
जयशर्मा द्विजः कश्चित्समाधिस्थो हिमालये
There was a certain twice-born named Jayaśarmā, absorbed in meditation in the Himalayas.
त्यक्त्वा देहं स शुद्धात्मा चंद्रकांत्याः सुतोभवत् रत्नभानुश्च संजज्ञे शूरस्तस्यानुजो बली
Abandoning his body, that pure-souled one became the son of Candrakānti; and Ratnabhānu, a mighty hero, was born as his younger brother.
स जित्वा गौडवंगादीन्मरुदेशान्मदोत्कटान्
He conquered the proud regions of Gauḍa, Vaṅga, and the desert lands.
गंगासिंहस्य भगिनी नाम्ना वीरवती शुभा
The sister of Gaṅgāsiṃha, named Vīravatī, was auspicious.
नकुलांशस्तदा भूमौ तस्यां जातः शिवाज्ञया स सप्ताब्दान्तरे प्राप्ते पितुस्तुल्यो बभूव ह
Then, by Shiva’s command, a son of Nakula was born on that land; after seven years had passed, he became equal to his father.
त्रयश्च कीर्तिमालिन्यां पुत्रा जाता मदोत्कटाः पृथिवीराज एवासौ ततोनुज इति स्मृतः ।। 3.3.5.
And three sons, proud and illustrious, were born to Kīrtimālinī; the eldest was called Pṛthivīrāja, and the others were known as his younger brothers.
द्वादशाब्दवयः प्राप्तः सिंहखेलस्ततोऽभवत् गत्वा हिमेगिरिं रम्यं योगध्यानपरोभवत्
When he reached twelve years of age, Siṃhakhela arose; going to the beautiful Himālaya, he became devoted to yoga and meditation.
मथुरायां धुंधकारोऽजमेरे च ततोनुजः
In Mathurā, Dhuṃdhakāra was born, and in Ajmer, his younger brother.
प्रद्योतश्चैव विद्योतः क्षत्रियौ चद्रवंशजौ
Pradyota and Vidyota, both Kṣatriyas, were born in the lunar dynasty.
प्रद्योततनयो जातो नाम्ना परिमलो बली
Pradyota’s son was born, strong and named Parimala.
विद्योताद्भीष्मसिंहश्च गजसेनाधिपोऽभवत्
From Vidyota came Bhīṣmasiṃha, who became lord of the elephants.
दृष्ट्वा तान्विप्रियान्सर्वान्निजराज्यान्निराकरोत्
Seeing all of them unfriendly, he renounced his own kingdom.
कान्यकुब्जपुरं प्राप्य जयचंद्रमवर्णयन्
Arriving at Kānyakubja city, he praised Jayacandra.
मातामहस्य ते राज्यं प्राप्तवान्निर्भयो बली
He, fearless and strong, obtained the kingdom of his maternal grandfather.
सर्वराज्यं कथं भुंक्षे श्रुत्वा तेन निराकृताः
Hearing, 'How do you enjoy all the kingdoms?' they were rejected by him.
इति श्रुत्वा महीपालो जयचंद्र उवाच तान् 3.3.5.
Having heard this, King Jayacandra spoke to them.
नाम्ना परिमलः शूरस्त्वं मन्मंत्री भवाधुना
You, the valiant Parimala, shall now be my minister by name.
वृत्त्यर्थे च मया वो वै पुरी दत्ता महावती
For your livelihood, I have given you the great city of Mahāvatī.
