O Lord of the gods, always protect the offerings to gods and ancestors.
Neither demons nor spirits harm a Brahmin, O descendant of Bharata.
Hearing those words of the gods, Vishnu spoke to them as follows.
During the bright fortnight, one should offer water with sesame seeds to the gods.
With seven or eight sesame seeds, one should present a handful of water.
That which has been defiled by dogs, crows, or fallen persons—
Whoever, with these deceased sesame seeds, constructs a great mountain—
The best is with ten droṇas, the middle with five, it is said.
As before, all the rest—such as the supporting mountain—
Because at the slaying of Madhu, sesame seeds arose from the sweat of Vishnu's body,
And because in offerings to gods and ancestors, the sesame seeds are always consecrated,
Thus, having invoked them, whoever gives a supreme sesame mountain—
He attains long life in this world and the next.
When his merit is exhausted, he is reborn here as a righteous king.
Born in a noble family, surrounded by sons and grandsons,
He attains the same fruit as the merit of giving a Kapila cow.
If there is any other gift equal to a sesame mountain, let it be determined by wise reflection on the collections of scripture.
The procedure for giving a cotton mountain is described, which is most dear among all gifts to all the gods.
Having obtained the proper place and time, as well as wealth and faith, with diligence,
One should perform everything completely according to the previously stated procedure.
A mountain weighing twenty units should be made; this is considered excellent by the wise.
One with little wealth should give according to his capacity, free from deceit regarding wealth.
Likewise, one should perform the vigil and the consecration in the same manner.
For you alone are always the covering for all worlds here.
Thus, whoever gives the lord of the cotton mountain at the time of the festival,
He becomes handsome, fortunate, eloquent, prosperous, and unmatched in valor.
Because the cotton mountain is the sole kin of the world, lacking nothing, and joined with excellent garments.
