सौभाग्यरससंभूतो यतोऽयं लवणोरसः
Because this essence of salt arises from the juice of good fortune.
तस्मादन्नरसाः सर्वे नोत्कृष्टा लवणं विना
Therefore, all the flavors of food are not excellent without salt.
विष्णुदेह समुद्भूतं यस्मादारोग्यवर्धनम्
Since it arose from the body of Viṣṇu, it increases health.
अनेन विधिना यस्तु दद्याल्लवणपर्वतम्
Whoever gives a salt mountain according to this rule—
पुण्यक्षयादिहाभ्येत्य राजा भवति धार्मिकः 4.196.
After the exhaustion of merit, he comes here and becomes a righteous king.
कुर्वंति ये लवण पर्वतसंप्रदानं संप्राप्नुवंति दिवि ते सुमहद्विमानम्
Those who make the gift of a salt mountain attain a great celestial palace in heaven.
गुडाचलदानविधिवर्णनम् यत्प्रदानान्नरः स्वर्गं प्राप्नोति सुरपूजितम्
Description of the rite for giving a mountain of jaggery: By giving this, a man attains heaven, honored by the gods.
उत्तमो दशभिर्भारैः मध्यमः पंचभिस्तथा
The best is with ten loads, the middling with five likewise.
तद्वदामंत्रणं पूजां हेमवृक्षसुरार्चनम्
Likewise, the invocation, worship, and offering of a golden tree to the gods.
होमं जागरणं तद्वल्लोकपालाधिवासनम्
Likewise, the fire offering, the vigil, and the installation of the guardians of the world.
यथा देवेषु विश्वात्मा प्रवरोयं जनार्दनः
As among the gods, Janārdana is the supreme soul of all.
प्रणवः सर्वमंत्राणां नारीणां पार्वती यथा
As Praṇava is among all mantras, and Pārvatī among women.
मम तस्मात्परां लक्ष्मीं प्रयच्छ गुडपर्वत
Therefore, O mountain of jaggery, grant me the supreme Lakṣmī.
विनाशश्चापि पार्वत्यास्तस्मान्मां पाहि सर्वदा
And since destruction is also from Pārvatī, always protect me.
संपूज्यमानो गंधर्वैर्गौंरीलोके महीयते
Honored by the Gandharvas, she is exalted in the realm of Gauri.
आयुरारोग्यसंपन्नः शत्रुभिश्चापराजितः 4.197.
Endowed with long life and health, she remains unconquered by enemies.
मरुत्तस्य प्रिया भार्या रूप यौवनशालिनी
She is the beloved wife of Marutta, possessing beauty and youth.
ता दास्य इव वाक्यानि कुर्युस्तस्याः सदैव हि
Those women always speak to her as servants would.
अथ कालेन महता दुर्वासा ऋषिसत्तमः
Then, after a long time, the eminent sage Durvasa arrived.
तस्याथ सत्क्रियां कृत्त्वा दत्त्वा चार्घं यथाविधि
She performed proper hospitality for him and offered the arghya as prescribed.
मुखावलोकनपरो वशे तिष्ठति सर्वदा
He always remains intent on gazing at her face, held under her sway.
एतदाचक्ष्व भगवन्परं कौतूहलं मम
O revered one, please tell me this, for I am greatly curious.
जानामि सर्वं सुभगे तव वृत्तमशेषतः
O fortunate one, I know all your deeds completely.
त्वमासीर्वैश्य महिषी गिरिव्रजपुरे पुरा
You were once the queen of the Vaishyas in the city of Girivraja.
तत्र श्रुतस्त्वया वत्से ब्राह्मणानां समीपतः
There, dear one, you listened near the Brahmins.
विशेषतस्तत्र विप्रैः कथितो गुडपर्वतः 4.197.
Especially there, the sages spoke of Gudaparvata.
तस्य दानस्य माहात्म्यात्त्वया भुक्तं वरानने
Because of the greatness of that gift, you enjoyed its fruits, O beautiful-faced one.
अन्यानि सप्त जन्मानि तव राज्यं भविष्यति
For seven more births, your reign will continue.
भूतं चैवमवश्यं च गुडपर्वतदानजम्
This has happened and will surely happen, arising from the gift of Gudaparvata.
तस्माद्देयमिदं दानं फलमुत्तममिच्छता
Therefore, this gift should be given by those desiring the highest reward.
