गन्धर्वैरप्सरोभिश्च गीयमानं यशोऽस्तु मे
May my fame be sung by Gandharvas and Apsarases.
हिरण्यमयपाषाणस्तस्माच्छांतिं प्रयच्छ मे
O golden-stoned one, grant me peace.
सुपार्श्व राजसे नित्यमतः श्रीरक्षयास्तु मे
O Supārśva, you are ever radiant; may prosperity remain with me.
स्नात्वा तु गुरवे दद्यान्मध्यमं पर्वतोत्तमम्
After bathing, one should give the best middle mountain to the teacher.
गावो देयाश्चतुस्त्रिंशदथवा दश भारत
Thirty-two cows should be given, or ten, O descendant of Bharata.
एकापि गुरवे देया कपिला सुपयस्विनी
Even a single tawny, excellent milking cow should be given to the teacher.
य एव पूजने मंत्रास्त एवोपस्करे तथा 4.195.
The very mantras used in worship are likewise used for the offerings.
स्वमंत्रेणैव सर्वेषु होमः शैलेषु शस्यते
In all sacrifices on mountains, one's own mantra alone is praised.
विधानं सर्वशैलानां क्रमशः शृणु भारत
Hear, O Bharata, the procedure for all mountains, step by step.
अन्नं ब्रह्म यतः प्रोक्तमन्ने प्राणाः प्रतिष्ठिताः
Food is declared to be Brahman, for in food the vital breaths are established.
अन्नमेव यतो लक्ष्मीरन्नमेव जनार्दनः
Because Lakshmi is in food, and Janardana is indeed food.
अनेन विधिना यस्तु दद्याद्धान्यमयं गिरिम्
Whoever gives a mountain made of grain according to this rule—
अप्सरोगणगंधर्वैराकीर्णेन विराजता
Adorned and surrounded by hosts of Apsarases and Gandharvas—
पुण्यक्षये राजराज्यमाप्नोतीह न संशयः
When his merit is exhausted, he attains royal sovereignty here, without doubt.
धान्याचलं कनकवृक्षविराजमानं विष्कंभपर्वतयुतं सुरसिद्धजुष्टम्
A mountain of grain, shining with golden trees, accompanied by supporting mountains, and enjoyed by gods and Siddhas—
लवणपर्वतदानविधिवर्णनम् यत्प्रदानान्नरो लोकमाप्नोति शिवसंयुतम्
Now, the procedure for giving the Salt Mountain is described: By giving it, a man attains a world united with Shiva.
उत्तमः षोडशद्रोणः कर्तब्यो लवणाचलः
The best salt mountain should be made with sixteen droṇas.
वित्तहीनो यथाशक्त्या द्रोणादर्धं तु कारयेत्
One without wealth should make it, according to his ability, with half a droṇa.
विधानं पूर्ववत्कुर्याद्ब्रह्मादीनां च सर्वदा
The procedure should always be performed as before, for Brahma and the others.
शिरांसि कामदेवादींस्तद्वत्तत्र निवेशयेत्
The heads of Kāma and the others should likewise be placed there.
सौभाग्यरससंभूतो यतोऽयं लवणोरसः
Because this essence of salt arises from the juice of good fortune.
तस्मादन्नरसाः सर्वे नोत्कृष्टा लवणं विना
Therefore, all the flavors of food are not excellent without salt.
विष्णुदेह समुद्भूतं यस्मादारोग्यवर्धनम्
Since it arose from the body of Viṣṇu, it increases health.
अनेन विधिना यस्तु दद्याल्लवणपर्वतम्
Whoever gives a salt mountain according to this rule—
पुण्यक्षयादिहाभ्येत्य राजा भवति धार्मिकः 4.196.
After the exhaustion of merit, he comes here and becomes a righteous king.
कुर्वंति ये लवण पर्वतसंप्रदानं संप्राप्नुवंति दिवि ते सुमहद्विमानम्
Those who make the gift of a salt mountain attain a great celestial palace in heaven.
गुडाचलदानविधिवर्णनम् यत्प्रदानान्नरः स्वर्गं प्राप्नोति सुरपूजितम्
Description of the rite for giving a mountain of jaggery: By giving this, a man attains heaven, honored by the gods.
उत्तमो दशभिर्भारैः मध्यमः पंचभिस्तथा
The best is with ten loads, the middling with five likewise.
तद्वदामंत्रणं पूजां हेमवृक्षसुरार्चनम्
Likewise, the invocation, worship, and offering of a golden tree to the gods.
होमं जागरणं तद्वल्लोकपालाधिवासनम्
Likewise, the fire offering, the vigil, and the installation of the guardians of the world.
