In the Puranas, in the Vedas, in sacrifices, and in studies,
Therefore, I will explain the procedure for the mountains in order.
The third is the mountain of jaggery, and the fourth is the mountain of gold.
The seventh is the mountain of ghee, and the eighth is the mountain of juice.
I will describe the proper procedure for these, in due order.
On the third day of the bright fortnight, during an eclipse or the waning of the moon,
Or especially on the fifteenth day of the bright fortnight, or on an auspicious star,
At a sacred place, in a temple, in a cowshed, or even at a confluence,
There, the arrangement should be made facing east or towards the water, as prescribed.
In the midst of that, one should construct a mountain, accompanied by smaller mountains around it.
The middle one is five hundred, the lesser should be three hundred.
Meru should be made of great rice, adorned with three golden trees in the middle.
And that which is adorned with green, blue, and gentle beryl lotuses and jewels.
Here, Brahma, Vishnu, the Blessed One, Purari, and the Sun should be of gold.
Another divine mountain, clad in white garments, should be placed to the east, and black ones to the south.
Eight guardians of the world, beginning with Mahendra, made of silver, should be established in order.
Above, a canopy of five colors, adorned with unfading flowers, or a white one, should be placed.
In the fourth part, in the four directions, one should arrange flowers, ointments, and the like.
With desire, one should fashion a splendid golden one, rich with flowers, cloth, and ointments.
In the southern direction, a Gandhamadana mountain should be placed, made of wheat or of polished gold.
Behind, the Tilachala mountain, with many fragrant flowers, golden pippala trees, and golden swans, should be set.
Having established that great mountain, then to the north, a fine mountain, well-formed, made of beans, should be placed.
With a collection of honey and sugarcane juice, likewise with silver and shining juices, it should be adorned.
To the east, having fashioned an elephant's face, a pit should be made with sesame seeds, clarified butter, sacred sticks, and kusa grass.
O Amaraparvata, treasure of all the hosts of gods, quickly remove obstacles from our homes.
You alone, O Blessed Lord, are the master—Brahma, Vishnu, and the Sun.
Because you are the abode of the guardians of the worlds and the universal form.
Because your head is never devoid of immortals and gandharvas.
Having thus worshipped that Meru, one should also honor Mandara.
O Mandara, you shine swiftly; become the bestower of satisfaction.
