गोष्ठे देवालये वापि रथे वा स्वगृहांगणे
In a cowshed, temple, pond, chariot, or in the courtyard of one's own house.
कुशैरास्तीर्य तां पार्थ प्रणवाक्षरमंत्रितैः
Spread out kusa grass, O Partha, and recite mantras with the syllables of the Pranava.
द्रौणैश्चतुर्भिः संपूर्णं तदर्धेनाथ वा पुनः
Fill it with four Drauna measures, or with half of that, or again as desired.
सुवर्णेन मुखं कार्यं भुजौ चक्रगदान्वितौ
Fashion the face with gold, and the arms bearing the discus and mace.
शंखं च स्थापयेत्पार्श्वे वनमालां हिरण्मयीम् 4.194.
Place a conch at the side, and a garland of gold from the forest.
दंष्ट्राग्रलग्नवसुधां सौवर्णीं कारयेच्छुभाम्
Make the auspicious earth attached to the tip of the tusk out of gold.
प्रच्छाद्य वस्त्रैर्देवेशं वराहं सर्वकामदम्
Cover the Lord Varaha, the giver of all desires, with cloths.
नवग्रहमखः कार्यो होम श्चात्र तिलैः स्मृतः
A ritual for the nine planets should be performed, and a fire offering with sesame is prescribed here.
वराहेश प्रदुष्टानि सर्वपापफलानि च
O Lord Varaha, all the fruits of evil deeds and impurities are destroyed.
शंखचक्रासिहस्ताय हिरण्याक्षांतकाय च

इत्युच्चार्य नमस्कृत्य प्रदक्षिणमनु व्रजेत्
Having spoken thus, and having bowed, one should circumambulate.
प्ररिग्रहस्तु तस्योक्तः पादयोः परमर्षिभिः
The acceptance of the gift is prescribed by the great sages at the feet.
एवं दत्त्वा महीनाथ वराहं सर्वकामदम्
In this way, O lord of the earth, having given the boar that grants all desires,
सर्वदानेषु यत्पुण्यं सर्वक्रतुषु यत्फलम्
The merit gained from all gifts and the fruit obtained from all sacrifices—
यथाशक्त्या समुद्धृता वराहेण वसुंधरा।। यथाकुलं समुद्धत्य विष्णुलोके महीयते। ।।। 4.194.
Just as the earth was raised up by the boar to the best of his ability, so, having uplifted according to his lineage, he is honored in the world of Vishnu.
ब्राह्मणक्षत्रियविशां स्त्रीणां शूद्रजनस्य च
For Brahmins, Kshatriyas, Vaishyas, women, and people of the Shudra class,
विप्राय वेदविदुषे नृवराहरूपं दत्त्वा तिलामलसुवर्णमयं सवस्त्रम्
By giving to a Brahmin who knows the Vedas a form of the king of men made of pure sesame and gold, with garments,
धान्यपर्वतदानविधिवर्णनम् भगवञ्छ्रोतुमिच्छामि दानमाहात्म्यमुत्तमम्

मत्स्येन मनवे तद्वत्तच्छुणुष्व कुरूद्वह
O best of the Kurus, just as Matsya spoke to Manu, so now listen to this from me.

Or especially on the fifteenth day of the bright fortnight, or on an auspicious star,
तीर्थे वायतने वापि गोष्ठे वा संगमेऽपि वा
At a sacred place, in a temple, in a cowshed, or even at a confluence,
प्रागुदक्प्रवणं तत्र प्राङ्मुखं वा विधानतः
There, the arrangement should be made facing east or towards the water, as prescribed.
तन्मध्ये पर्वतं कुर्याद्विष्कम्भपर्वतान्वितम्
In the midst of that, one should construct a mountain, accompanied by smaller mountains around it.
