स्वर्गे वर्षशतं साग्रमास्ते सुरगणैर्वृतः
He dwells in heaven for a hundred years, surrounded by hosts of gods.
ज्येष्ठानुज्येष्ठतामेति गतिमिष्टां च गच्छति
He attains seniority and junior status, and also reaches the desired path.
पितॄन्प्रीणयते सर्वान्गतिं प्राप्नोत्यनुत्तमाम्
He pleases all his ancestors and attains the highest state.
कुलवृत्तोपसम्पन्ने ब्राह्मणे वेदपारगे
When a Brahmin, accomplished in family tradition and learned in the Vedas,
पुत्रपौत्रैः परिवृतः पशुमान्धनवांस्तथा
Is surrounded by sons and grandsons, and possesses cattle and wealth,
दत्त्वोत्तरास्वषाढासु सर्वान्कामानवाप्नुयात्
By giving during the constellation Uttarāṣāḍhā, one obtains all desired objects.
धर्मनित्यो मनीषिभ्यः स्वर्गे वसति पुण्यभाक्
Constant in righteousness, giving to the wise, he dwells in heaven, enjoying merit.
स्वेच्छया याति यानेन सर्वांल्लोकान्न संशयः
He travels by his own will, by vehicle, to all worlds without doubt.
सर्वत्र मानमाप्नोति यत्र यत्रेह जायते 4.192.
He attains honor everywhere, wherever he is born in this world.
प्राप्नोत्यप्सरसां लोके प्रेत्य गंधांश्च शोभनान्
He attains the world of the Apsarases after death, and beautiful fragrances.
सर्वभक्षफलोपेतः स वै प्रेत्य सुखी भवेत्
Endowed with all kinds of food and fruits, he becomes happy after death.
पितॄन्प्रीणाति सकलान्प्रेत्य चानंत्यमश्नुते
He pleases all his ancestors and, after death, attains endless reward.
स प्रेत्य कामानादाय दातारमुपगच्छति
After death, he takes the desired enjoyments and approaches the giver.
हस्त्यश्वरथसंपूर्णे वर्चस्वी जायते कुले
He is born in a family filled with elephants, horses, and chariots, endowed with splendor.
गावः प्रभूताः प्राप्नोति नरः प्रेत्य यशस्तथा
After death, a man obtains abundant cows and also fame.
देवक्यै नारदेनैव मया च कथितस्तव
This was told to Devakī by Nārada and by me, for your sake.
न चात्र कालनियमो नक्षत्रप्रकमस्तथा
There is no restriction of time here, nor any specification of constellations.
यद्यच्च ते भगवता कमलोद्भवस्य पुत्रेण दानमुदितं प्रसमीक्ष्य वेदान्
Whatever gift has been declared by the blessed son of the lotus-born, having examined the Vedas—
इति श्रीभविष्ये महापुराण उत्तरपर्वणि श्रीकृष्णयुधिष्ठिरसंवादे नक्षत्रदानविधिवर्णनंनाम द्विनवत्युत्तरशततमोऽध्यायः
Thus ends the one hundred ninety-second chapter, named 'Description of the Rules for Gifts According to Constellations,' in the dialogue between Śrī Kṛṣṇa and Yudhiṣṭhira, in the Uttaraparvan of the glorious Bhaviṣya Mahāpurāṇa.
तिथिदानवर्णनम् सर्वपापप्रशमनं सर्वविघ्नविनाशनम्
Description of gifts according to lunar days: the removal of all sins and the destruction of all obstacles.
मानसं वाचिकं चापि कर्मजं यदघं भवेत्
Whatever sin arises from the mind, speech, or action—
श्रावणे कार्तिके चैत्रे वैशाखे फाल्गुने तथा
In Śrāvaṇa, Kārtika, Chaitra, Vaiśākha, and also Phālguna—
वित्तं श्रद्धासहायश्च पात्रप्राप्तिस्तथैव च
Wealth, accompanied by faith, and the proper recipient as well—
तीर्थे देवालये गोष्ठे गृहे वा नियतात्मवान्
In a sacred place, temple, cow-pen, or at home, with self-control—
प्रतिपत्सु द्विजान्पूज्यप्त पूजयित्वा प्रजापतिम्
On lunar days, having worshipped the twice-born and having honored Prajāpati—
कृत्वा चौदुम्बरे पात्रे सुगन्धवृतपूरिते
Having prepared a vessel of udumbara wood, filled with fragrant substances—
अनेन विधिना दत्त्वा कमलं कमलालयम्
By giving a lotus to the abode of Lakṣmī according to this procedure—
वह्निं पूज्य द्वितीयायां भूर्भुवःस्वरिति क्रमात्
Having worshipped fire on the second lunar day, reciting 'bhūḥ, bhuvaḥ, svaḥ' in order—
वैश्वानरं तु सौवर्णं स्थापयेत्ताम्रभाजने 4.193.१
One should place a golden Vaiśvānara in a copper vessel.
यावज्जीवकृतात्पापान्मुच्यते नात्र संशयः
He is freed from sins committed throughout his life; there is no doubt about this.
