भूतादिना तथाकाशं भूतादिर्महता तथा
With the elements and space, and likewise the great principle of the elements.
अव्यक्तं तमसा व्याप्तं तमश्च रजसा तथा
The unmanifest is pervaded by darkness, and darkness by rajas likewise.
एवमावरणोपेतं ब्रह्मांडमखिलं नृप
Thus, O King, the entire cosmic egg is furnished with such coverings.
एतत्सर्वं पटस्थं तु कृत्वा चित्रमयं सुधीः
Having made all this, depicted on the cloth in a pictorial manner, the wise one—
पूजयेद्येन विधिना तत्समासेन मे शृणु
Should worship it according to the prescribed method; hear from me the summary of that.
तत्र कुण्डानि चत्वारि चतुरस्राणि कारयेत्
There, he should make four square fire-pits.
यज्ञोपकरणोपेतौ वस्त्राभरणभूषितौ
Furnished with the implements of sacrifice, adorned with garments and ornaments.
पटे स्थितानां देवानां मंत्रैरोंकारपूर्वकैः
To the gods depicted on the cloth, with mantras beginning with Oṃ.
आचार्येणसमं कुर्यात्पूजामग्रे पटस्य तु
Together with the teacher, he should perform the worship in front of the cloth.
ब्रह्मांडोदरवर्तीनि भुवनानि चतुर्दश 4.191.
The fourteen worlds that exist within the cosmic egg.
ब्रह्मा विष्णुस्तथा रुद्रो ह्यादित्या वसवस्तथा
Brahma, Vishnu, likewise Rudra, the Adityas, and also the Vasus—
एवं पटं तं संपूज्य कृत्वा चैव प्रदक्षिणम्
Having thus worshipped that cloth and performed circumambulation,
शंखतूर्यनिनादैश्च जागरं कारयेत्ततः
Then one should conduct a vigil with the sounds of conch and kettle-drum.
पुनः प्रभाते विमले स्नात्वा शुचिरलंकृतः
Again, in the clear morning, having bathed, pure and well-adorned,
ऋत्विक्पूजां ततः कृत्वा गोशतेन विचक्षणः
Then, after performing the ritual for the priests, the wise one gives a hundred cows.
उपानहौ तथा छत्रं गृहोपकरणानि च
Also, sandals, a parasol, and household utensils—
ततः प्रकल्पयेद्यानं नागयुक्तमलंकृतम्
Then one should arrange a vehicle, adorned and yoked with serpents.
सहस्रं दक्षिणां दत्त्वा ततस्त्वारोपयेत्पटम्
Having given a thousand as the fee, then one should raise up the cloth.
तत्रस्थं स्थापयेन्नीत्वा गन्धैः पुष्पैश्च धूपयेत्
Having brought it, one should set it in place there and offer incense with scents and flowers.
यस्मिन्नायतने तस्य प्रतिष्ठा क्रियते नृप 4.191.
O king, in whatever temple its installation is performed—
यथाशक्त्या च राजेन्द्र गुरुं गौरवयंत्रितः
According to his ability, O lord of kings, he should honor the guru with respect.
अभ्यर्च्य दक्षिणाभिश्च ब्राह्मणांश्च विसर्जयेत्
Having worshipped and given fees, he should dismiss the Brahmins.
तस्मिन्नहनि दातव्यं मित्रस्वजनबंधुषु
On that very day, gifts should be given to friends, relatives, and kin.
कुर्यान्नरो वा नारी वा प्रतिष्ठां सार्वलौकिकीम्
Whether man or woman, one should perform this universal installation.
कुलं च तारितं तेन सत्पुत्रेण युधिष्ठिर
By this, the family is carried across, O Yudhishthira, by a true son.
तावदस्याक्षया कीर्तिस्त्रैलोक्ये संप्रसर्पति
For so long, his undying fame spreads throughout the three worlds.
तावद्वर्षसहस्राणि स्वर्गलोके महीयते
For so many thousands of years, he is honored in the world of heaven.
वसेद्धृष्टमनाः स्वर्गे यावदिंद्राश्चतु र्दश
He dwells in heaven, his mind delighted, as long as the fourteen Indras reign.
पुत्रपौत्रान्वितः श्रीमान्दीर्घायुरतिधार्मिकः
He is blessed with sons and grandsons, wealthy, long-lived, and exceedingly righteous.
श्रूयते च पुरा राजा रजिर्नाम महाबलः 4.191.
It is heard that in ancient times there was a king named Raji, of great strength.
