तत्सर्वं स्थापयेत्पार्श्वे स्वयं संचिंत्य चेतसि
All that should be set beside it, having carefully considered in one's mind.
पूजयित्वा लोकपालान्गृहान्देवीं विनायकम्
After worshipping the guardians of the worlds, the household goddess, and Ganesha,
इममुच्चारयेन्मंत्रं विप्रस्य पुरतो बुधः
the wise one should recite this mantra in front of the Brahmin.
सर्वरत्नसमायुक्ता तव विप्र निवेदिता 4.185.
O Brahmin, offered to you is this, adorned with all jewels.
तस्मादात्मप्रदानेन ममात्मा सुप्रसीदतु
Therefore, by the offering of myself, may my soul be greatly pleased.
ब्राह्मणश्चापि गृह्णीयात्कोदादिति च कीर्तयन्
And the Brahmin should accept it, reciting 'kodā'.
विधिनानेन राजेन्द्र दानमेतत्प्रयच्छति
O king, whoever gives this gift according to this rite—
साग्रं वर्षशतं दिव्यं स्वर्गलोके सुरैर्वृतः
Surrounded by the gods, he dwells in the heavenly world for a full hundred divine years.
यत्रैवोत्पद्यते जंतुः प्राप्ते कर्मक्षये पुनः
Wherever a being is born, when the results of his deeds are exhausted, he is born there again.
इष्टबंधुजनैः सार्द्धं न वियोगं कदाचन
He is never separated from his beloved relatives.
यश्चात्मनः प्रतिकृतिं वरवाहनस्था हैमीं विधाय धनधान्यसमाकुलां च
And whoever fashions an image of himself, seated on a noble vehicle, made of gold, filled with wealth and grain—
इति श्रीभविष्ये महापुराण उत्तरपर्वणि श्रीकृष्णयुधिष्ठिरसंवाद आत्मप्रतिकृतिदानविधिवर्णनं नाम पञ्चाशीत्युत्तरशततमोऽध्यायः
Thus, in the glorious Bhavishya Mahapurana, in the Uttaraparva, the dialogue of Sri Krishna and Yudhishthira, the one hundred eighty-fifth chapter, named 'Description of the Rite for the Gift of One's Own Image', concludes.
हिरण्याश्वदानविधिवर्णनम् यस्य प्रसादात्पुरुषः शाश्वतं फलमश्नुते
Description of the rite for the gift of a golden horse—by whose grace a person attains eternal reward.
पुण्यं दिनमथासाद्य पात्रं वापि गुणाधिकम्
Having obtained an auspicious day or a vessel of superior quality—
खलीनालंकृतमुखं कारयेद्धेमवाजिनम्
He should have a golden horse made, with its mouth adorned with a bridle.
स्थापयेद्वेदिमध्ये तु कृष्णाजिनतिलोपरि
He should place it in the middle of the altar, upon black antelope skin and sesame seeds.
संपूज्य कुसुमैः श्वेतैश्चणकान्विनिवेद्य च
After worshipping it with white flowers and offering chickpeas—
इममुच्चारयेन्मंत्रं पुराणोक्तं यतव्रतः
He, being disciplined in vows, should recite this mantra from the Purāṇas:
वाजिरूपेण मामस्मात्पाहि संसारसागरात्
In the form of a horse, save me from this ocean of worldly existence.
प्रदक्षिणं ततः कृत्वा प्रणिपत्य विसर्जयेत्
Then, having circumambulated it, he should bow and dismiss it.
दत्त्वा पापक्षयाद्भानोर्लोकमाप्नोति शाश्वतम् 4.186.
By giving it, freed from sin, he attains the eternal world of the sun.
पुराणश्रवणं तद्वत्कारयेद्भोजनादनु
Afterwards, he should likewise arrange for the hearing of the Purāṇas, after the meal.
इत्थं हिरण्याश्वविधिं करोति यः सुपुण्यमासाद्य दिनं नरेंद्र
In this way, whoever performs the rite of gifting a golden horse on an especially auspicious day, O king,
इति पठति य इत्थं हैमवाजिप्रदानं सकलकलुषमुक्तः सोऽश्वयुक्तेन भूपः
Whoever recites thus about the giving of a golden horse, is freed from all sins, O ruler, even if he does not have a horse yoked.
यो वा शृणोति पुरुषोऽप्यथ वा स्मरेद्वा हैमाश्वदानमभिनंदति दीयमानम्
Or if a man hears, or even remembers, or joyfully approves the giving of a golden horse as it is being offered,
हिरण्याश्वरथदानविधिवर्णनम् पुण्यं हेमरथं नाम महापातकनाशनम्
Description of the rite for gifting a golden horse-chariot: The meritorious golden chariot, named Hemaratha, destroys great sins.
पुण्येऽह्नि विप्रकथिते स्वनुलिप्ते गृहांगणे
On an auspicious day, as declared by the learned, and after anointing oneself, in the courtyard of the house,
चतुरस्रं महाभाग चतुश्चक्रं सकूबरम्
It should be square, O noble one, with four wheels and a pole.
इंद्रनीलेन कुंभेन ध्वजरूपेण संयुतम्
It should be adorned with a sapphire pitcher, and equipped with a banner.
चत्वारः पूर्णकलशा धान्यान्यष्टादशैव तु
There should be four full pots and eighteen measures of grain.
