ध्यानेन पूजयेदीशं सूर्यमंडलसंस्थितम् । अचलोऽयं प्रभुः साक्षात्तथा सूर्योचलः सदा
By meditation, one should worship the Lord situated in the solar orb; this unmoving Lord is manifest, and likewise the sun is always unmoving.
तत्त्वानां चलभूतानां कर्षणः स समंततः 3.3.2.
He draws together the moving elements of the principles equally everywhere.
ईशमूर्तिर्हृदि प्राप्ता नित्यशुद्धा शिवंकरी
The form of the Lord, attained in the heart, is eternally pure and brings auspiciousness.
इति श्रुत्वा स भूपालो नत्वा तं म्लेच्छपूजकम्
Having heard thus, the king bowed to that worshipper of the mlecchas.
स्वराज्यं प्राप्तवान्राजा हयमेधमचीकरत् स्वर्गते नृपतौ तस्मिन्यथा चासीत्तथा शृणु
The king, having attained sovereignty, performed the horse sacrifice; listen now to how things were after that king ascended to heaven.
श्रीसूत उवाच शालिवाहनवंशे च राजानो दश चाभवन्
Śrī Sūta said: In the lineage of Śālivāhana, there were ten kings.
मर्य्यादा क्रमतो लीना जाता भूमंडले तदा दृष्ट्वा प्रक्षीणमर्य्यादां बली दिग्विजयं ययौ
At that time, proper conduct gradually disappeared from the earth; seeing the decline of righteousness, the powerful one set out to conquer the directions.
सेनया दशसाहस्र्या कालिदासेन संयुतः
Accompanied by an army of ten thousand and by Kālidāsa, he advanced.
जित्वा गांधारजान्म्लेच्छान्काश्मीरान्नारवाञ्छठान्
He defeated the kings of Gandhāra, the foreigners, the people of Kashmir, and the deceitful Nāras.
एतस्मिन्नन्तरे म्लेच्छ आचार्य्येण समन्वितः
Meanwhile, he was joined by a foreign teacher.
नृपश्चैव महादेवं मरुस्थलनिवासिनम् चंदनादिभिरभ्यर्च्य तुष्टाव मनसा हरम्
The king worshipped the great god Mahādeva, who dwells in the desert, with sandalwood and other offerings, and praised Hara in his mind.
भोजराज उवाच त्रिपुरासुरनाशाय वहुमायाप्रवर्त्तिने
King Bhoja said: To the destroyer of the demon Tripurāsura, who sets many illusions in motion,
म्लेच्छैर्गुप्ताय शुद्धाय सच्चिदानन्दरूपिणे
To the one concealed by foreigners, pure, and of the nature of existence, consciousness, and bliss,
गंतव्यं भोजराजेन महाकालेश्वरस्थले
King Bhoja must go to the place of Mahākāleśvara.
म्लेच्छैस्सुदूषिता भूमिर्वाहीका नाम विश्रुता 3.3.3.
The land known as Vāhīka has been thoroughly corrupted by foreigners.
बभूवात्र महामायी योऽसौ दग्धो मया पुरा
There appeared that great magician whom I had burned before.
अयोनिः स वरो मत्तः प्राप्तवान्दैत्यवर्द्धनः
He, who was not born from a womb, received a boon from me and became the increaser of demons.
नागन्तव्यं त्वया भूप पैशाचे देशधूर्तके
O king, you must not go to that land of demons and tricksters.
इति श्रुत्वा नृपश्चैव स्वदेशान्पुनरागमत्
Hearing this, the king returned again to his own country.
उवाच भूपतिं प्रेम्णा मायामदविशारदः
The master of illusion, skilled in magic, spoke lovingly to the king.
ममोच्छिष्ठं सभुंजीयाद्यथा तत्पश्य भो नृप
O king, see how one may eat what I have left as remnants.
म्लेच्छधर्मे मतिश्चासीत्तस्य भूपस्य दारुणे
That king’s mind became fixed in the harsh religion of the foreigners.
तच्छ्रुत्वा कालिदासस्तु रुषा प्राह महामदम्
Hearing that, Kālidāsa angrily spoke to Mahāmada.
हनिष्यामि दुराचारं वाहीकं पुरुषाधमम्
I will slay this wicked, immoral Vāhīka, the lowest of men.
जप्त्वा दशसहस्रं च तद्दशांशं जुहाव सः 3.3.3.
Having recited ten thousand times, he offered one-tenth of that in oblation.
गृहीत्वा स्वगुरोर्भस्म मदहीनत्वमागतम्
Taking the ashes of his own guru, he became free from arrogance.
स्थापितं तैश्च भूमध्ये तत्रोषुर्मदतत्पराः
That was established by them in the middle of the land, and those devoted to arrogance remained there.
रात्रौ स देवरूपश्च बहुमायाविशारदः
At night, that one, possessing a divine form and skilled in many illusions,
आर्य्यधर्मो हि ते राजन्सर्वधर्मोत्तमः स्मृतः
O King, the noble dharma is indeed yours, remembered as the highest of all dharmas.
लिंगच्छेदी शिखाहीनः श्मश्रुधारी स दूषकः
He who is castrated, without a topknot, and bearing a beard is a defiler.
