नमस्ते कल्पवृक्षाय विततार्थप्रदाय च
Salutations to the wish-fulfilling tree, the bestower of all desired objects.
यस्मात्त्वमेव विश्वात्मा ब्रह्मस्थाणुदिवाकराः
Because you alone are the soul of the universe—the forms of Brahma, Shiva, and the Sun.
एवमामन्त्र्य तं दृष्ट्वा गुरवे कल्पपादपम्
Having thus addressed and seen it, one should present the wish-fulfilling tree to the teacher.
अनेन विधिना यस्तु दानमेतत्प्रयच्छति ।। 4.178.
Whoever gives this gift according to this procedure—
विमानवरमारुह्य सूर्यतेजःसमप्रभम्
Ascends a splendid celestial chariot, shining like the brilliance of the sun.
याति लोकं सुरेशस्य सर्वबाधाविवर्जि तम्
He goes to the world of the lord of the gods, free from all afflictions.
यज्वा शूरोऽपि विद्वांश्च नरो भवति धार्मिकः
Even a sacrificer, a hero, or a learned man becomes righteous.
कल्पलतादानविधिवर्णनम् अनुग्रहाय लोकानां कथयस्व ममापरम्
Describe to me further the procedure for giving the wish-fulfilling creeper, for the benefit of the worlds.
तन्मे कथय देवेश दानं व्रतमथापि वा
Tell me, O lord of the gods, about a gift or a vow—
येनोपायेन जायंते सभाग्या मानवा भुवि
By what means do fortunate people arise on earth?
न व्रतैर्नोपवासैश्च न तीर्थगमनैरपि
Not by vows, nor by fasting, nor even by going to holy places—
प्राप्यते मम लोकोऽयं दुष्प्राप्यस्त्रिदशैरपि
Is my world attained; it is difficult even for the gods to reach.
वक्ष्ये कल्पलतादानं शोभनं विधिपूर्वकम्
I shall explain the proper procedure for offering the wish-fulfilling creeper.
दिक्पालेभ्यो बलिं तत्र क्षिपेद्वै विधिपूर्वकम्
There, one should offer oblations to the guardians of the directions according to the prescribed rules.
ततो ग्रहमखं कुर्याद्धोमं व्याहृतिभिस्ततः
Then, one should perform the ritual for the planets, offering oblations with the sacred utterances.
ततः सर्वसमीपे तु स्नातः शुक्लांबरः शुचिः ततः प्रदक्षिणीकृत्य मंत्रानेतानुदीरयेत्
After that, having bathed, wearing white garments, and being pure, in the presence of all, one should circumambulate and then recite the mantras.
नमो नमः पापविनाशिनीभ्यो ब्रह्मांडलोकेश्वरपालनीभ्यः 4.179.
Salutations again and again to those who destroy sin, to the protectors of the worlds within the cosmic egg.
या यस्य शक्तिः परमा प्रदिष्टा वेदे पुराणे सुरसत्तमस्य
Whatever supreme power is assigned to each, in the Veda and Purāṇa, of the best among the gods—
एवमुच्चार्य ताः सर्वा ब्राह्मणेभ्यो निवेदयेत्
Having recited thus, one should present all these to the brāhmaṇas.
ततः क्षमापयेद्विप्रान्प्रणिपत्य सदक्षिणान्
Then, bowing down, one should ask forgiveness from the brāhmaṇas, giving them proper gifts.
तस्य पुण्यफलं राजन्कथ्यमानं निबोध मे
O King, listen to me as I declare the meritorious result of this act.
मृतो लोकाधिपपुरे प्रतिमन्वतरं वसेत्
After death, he dwells in the city of the lord of the world for as many ages as there are Manus.
जितसर्वमहीपालश्चक्रवर्ती भवेद्भुवि
He becomes a universal sovereign on earth, having conquered all kings.
सा चक्रवर्तिनं पुत्रं सूते शक्तिसमन्वितम्
She gives birth to a son who is a universal monarch, endowed with power.
शृणोति वाच्यमानं च सोपि प्रेत्य विमुच्यते
Even one who hears this being recited is freed after death.
याः शक्रवह्नियमनैर्ऋतपाशहस्ता वातेंदुराजशिवकेशवशंभुशक्त्यः
Those who bear the nooses of Indra, Agni, Yama, Nirṛti, Vāyu, Soma, Varuṇa, Śiva, Keśava, and Śaṃbhu—
गजरथाश्वरथदानविधिवर्णनम् कानि दानानि देयानि पवित्राणि शुभानि च
The rules for donating elephants, chariots, horses, and chariots are described—
अन्यैर्वा पुरुषैः कृष्ण अधर्मभयभीरुभिः
Or by other men, O Kṛṣṇa, who are fearful of unrighteousness and danger.
इह लोके परे चैव विहितं सर्वकामदम्
In this world and the next, these prescribed gifts grant all desires.
विशेषेण महीपानां हिताय च न संशयः
Especially for the benefit of kings—of this there is no doubt.
