( ॐ अनंताय नमः) एह्येहि विश्वाधिपते मुनींद्र लोकेश सार्द्धं पितृदेवताभिः
(Om, obeisance to Ananta) Come, come, O Lord of the universe, chief of sages, ruler of the worlds, together with the ancestral deities.
( ॐ ब्रह्मणे नमः) त्रैलोक्ये यानि भूतानि स्थावराणि चराणि च
(Om, obeisance to Brahmā) All beings in the three worlds, both stationary and moving,
देवदानवगन्धर्वा यक्ष राक्षसपन्नगाः
gods, demons, gandharvas, yakṣas, rākṣasas, and serpents,
सर्वे ममाध्वरे रक्षां प्रकुर्वंतु मुदान्विताः
may all joyfully provide protection for my sacrifice.
कुंडलानि च हैमानि सूत्राणि कटकानि च
Earrings of gold, threads, and armlets as well,
द्विगुणं गुरवे दद्याद्भूषणा च्छादनादिकम्
One should give to the teacher twice the amount of ornaments, garments, and the like.
प्रणवादिस्वनाम्ना च स्वाहांतो होम उच्यते
A homa is said to be performed with the utterance of 'praṇava' and other names, ending with 'svāhā'.
ततो मंगलशब्देन स्थापितो वेदमंगलैः
Then, with auspicious sounds, it is established with Vedic blessings.
शुक्लमाल्यांबरो भूत्वा तां तुलामभिमंत्रयेत्
Wearing white garlands and garments, he should consecrate that scale with mantras.
साक्षिभूता जगद्धात्रि निर्मिता विश्वयोनिना
You, the sustainer of the world, witness to all, created by the source of the universe,
धर्माधर्मभृतां मध्ये स्थापितासि जगद्धिते
You are established among those who uphold righteousness and unrighteousness, for the welfare of the world.
मां तोलयंती संसारादुद्धरात्र नमोस्तुते
O you who lift me from the ocean of worldly existence by weighing me, I bow to you.
स एकोऽधिष्ठितो देवि त्वयि तस्मान्नमो नमः
He alone, O goddess, is established in you; therefore, repeated salutations to you.
त्वं हरे तारयस्वास्मानस्मात्संसारसागरात्
O Hari, deliver us from this ocean of worldly existence.
प्रणम्य परया भक्त्या तां तुलामारुहेद्बुधः
Having bowed with supreme devotion, the wise one should ascend the scale.
धर्मराजमथादाय हेमसूर्येण संयुतम्
Then, taking the scale of righteousness, joined with gold and the sun,
वामे यमं तथा गृह्य दक्षिणे च रविं तथा साम्यादभ्यधिकं यावत्कांचनं चातिनिर्मलम्
Holding Yama on the left and the sun on the right, as much pure gold as is equal or more in weight,
पुष्टिकामस्तु कुर्वीत भूमिसंस्थं नरेश्वर
Desiring prosperity, O king, one should place it on the ground.
नमस्ते सर्वभूतानां साक्षिभूते सनातने
Salutations to you, the eternal witness of all beings.
त्वयोद्धृतं जगत्सर्वं सह स्थावरजंगमम्
By you, the entire world, along with the immovable and the moving, has been uplifted.
ततोऽवतीर्य गुरवे सर्वमर्द्धं निवेदयेत्
Then, descending, he should offer all the gold to the teacher.
प्राप्य तेषामनुज्ञां वा तथान्येभ्योऽपि दापयेत्
Having obtained their permission, he should likewise give to others as well.
न चिरं धारयेद्गेहे हेमसंप्रोक्षितं बुधः
A wise person should not keep gold that has been sprinkled in the house for long.
रात्रिं परस्वीकर णाच्छ्रियं प्राप्नोत्यनुत्तमाम् ।। अनेनैव विधानेन केचिद्रौप्यमयं तथा त
If one takes another's property for a night, he does not attain the highest prosperity; in this same manner, some do so with silver as well.
कर्पूरेण तथेच्छंति केचिद्ब्राह्मणपुंगवाः
Some eminent Brahmins desire it with camphor.
कुंकुमेन प्रयच्छंति लवणेन गुडेन च
They offer it with saffron, with salt, and with jaggery.
विधिनानेन यो दद्या द्दानमेतत्समाहितः
Whoever gives this gift with proper intent according to this method,
विमानवरमास्थाय नारी वा पुरुषोऽपि वा
Whether woman or man, mounting a splendid celestial vehicle,
नानावृक्षाकुलं रम्यं नानागंधाधिवासितम्
In a delightful place filled with various trees, pervaded by diverse fragrances,
शयनासनसंकीर्णं पताका भिरलंकृतम्
Adorned with many beds and seats, decorated with banners,
