तस्या मध्ये तुलां दिव्यां स्थाप येद्विधिपूर्वकम्

तिंदुको देवदारुश्च श्रीपर्णश्चाष्टमः स्मृतः
Tiṃduka, devadāru, and śrīparṇa are remembered as the eighth types of wood.
इत्यष्टौ वृक्षजातीयाः स्तंभास्ते परिकीर्तिताः
Thus, these eight kinds of trees are declared as suitable for the posts.
सुनिश्चलं ततः कृत्वा तिर्यक्काष्ठमथोपरि
Then, having made it very steady, place a horizontal beam above.
समानजातिं तु तुलां तन्मध्ये योजयेद्दृढम्
In the middle of that, firmly fix the balance made of the same kind of wood.
कृष्णलोहमयौ तस्यां कर्णौ चापि प्रकल्पयेत्
On that, also provide two ears made of black iron.
एवंविधां तुलां कृत्वा नानारत्नैर्विभूषिताम्
Having made such a balance, adorned with various jewels,
स्तंभौ च वस्त्रसंयुक्तौ पुष्पमालाव लंबिनौ
And the posts, decorated with cloth and garlands of flowers hanging down,
कुण्डानि चात्र चत्वारि योनियुक्तानि कारयेत्
Here, construct four pits, each with a yoni-shaped base.
पूर्वोत्तरे हस्तमिता वेदिः कार्या सुशोभना
The altar should be beautiful, measuring a hand in the east and north directions.
अर्चार्चनं च तत्रैव विरिंच्यच्युतयो र्नृप
There itself, O king, the worship of Brahmā, Viṣṇu, and Śiva is to be performed.
तोरणानि च कार्याणि क्षीरवृक्षोद्भवानि च
Also, gateways should be made from the wood of milky trees.
पंचरत्नसमायुक्ताः सप्तधान्योपरिस्थिताः
They should be adorned with five kinds of jewels and placed above seven types of grains.
यजुर्वेदविदौ याम्ये पश्चिमे सामवेदिनौ
Let the knower of the Yajurveda be in the south, and the knower of the Sāmaveda in the west.
अत्रैव केचिदिच्छंति ऋषयः षोडशर्त्विजः
Here, some sages desire there to be sixteen officiating priests.
होमद्रव्याणि सर्वाणि तिलाज्यं समिधस्तथा
All the offerings for the fire ritual, including sesame, ghee, and kindling wood,
लोकपालाः सुवर्णास्तु पताकाः परितः शुभाः
the guardians of the worlds made of gold, and auspicious banners all around,
एतत्सर्वं समाहृत्य पुण्येऽहनि विचक्षणः
having gathered all these, on an auspicious day, the wise one
संपूर्णं यजमानाय दर्शयेद्यज्ञमंडपम्
should show the fully prepared sacrificial pavilion to the sacrificer.
शंखतूर्यनिनादेन वेदध्वनिरवेण च
With the sound of conches and drums, and the resonance of Vedic chants,
एह्येहि सर्वामरसिद्धसाध्यैरभिष्टुतो वज्रधरामरेश
"Come, come, O Vajradhara, Lord of the Immortals, praised by all the gods, siddhas, and sādhyas!"
( ॐ इंद्राय नमः) तेजोवता लोकगणेन सार्द्धं ममाध्वरं रक्ष कवे नमस्ते
(Om, obeisance to Indra) Together with the radiant hosts of the worlds, protect my sacrifice, O sage; salutations to you.
( ॐ अग्नये नमः शुभाशुभानंदकृतामधीश रक्षाध्वरं मे भगवन्नमस्ते
(Om, obeisance to Agni) Lord of all that is auspicious and inauspicious, protect my sacrifice, O blessed one; salutations to you.
ॐ यमाय नमः) ममाध्वरं पाहि पिशाचनाथ लोकेश्वरस्त्वं भगवन्नमस्ते
(Om, obeisance to Yama) Protect my sacrifice, O Lord of spirits, ruler of the world; O blessed one, salutations to you.
ॐ निर्ऋतये नमः विद्याधरेन्द्रामरगीयमान पाहि त्वमस्मान्भगवन्नमस्ते
(Om, obeisance to Nirṛti) Praised by the lords of vidyādharas and immortals, protect us, O blessed one; salutations to you.
( ॐ वरुणाय नमः प्राणाधिपः कालकवेः सहायो गृहाण पूजां भगवन्नमस्ते
(Om, obeisance to Varuṇa) Lord of life, companion of Kāla, accept this worship, O blessed one; salutations to you.
( ॐ वायवेय नमः) एह्येहि यज्ञेश्वर यज्ञरक्षां विधत्स्व नक्षत्रगणेन सार्द्धम्
(Om, obeisance to Vāyu) Come, come, O Lord of sacrifice, establish the protection of the sacrifice together with the hosts of stars.
( ॐ सोमाय नमः लोकेन भूतेश्वर यज्ञसिद्ध्यै गृहाण पूजां भगवन्नमस्ते
(Om, obeisance to Soma) O Lord of beings, for the success of the sacrifice, accept this worship, O blessed one; salutations to you.
( ईशानाय नमः यक्षोरगेन्द्रामरलोकसंघैरनंत रक्षाध्वरमस्मदीयम्
(Obeisance to Īśāna) With the hosts of yakṣas, serpent lords, and immortals, O Ananta, protect this sacrifice of ours.
