प्राप्यते यत्फलं पुंभिः पार्थ तत्केन वर्ण्यते
Whatever fruit is obtained by men, O Partha, who can describe it?
दासीं समीक्ष्य बहुशो गृहकर्मदक्षां यो ब्रह्मणाय कुलशीलवते ददाति
He who, seeing a maidservant skilled in household work, gives her to a Brahmin of good family and character—
इति श्रीभविष्ये महापुराण उत्तरपर्वणि श्रीकृष्णयुधिष्ठिरसंवादे दासीदानविधिवर्णनं नामैकसप्तत्युत्तरशततमोऽध्यायः
Thus, in the glorious Bhavishya Mahapurana, in the Uttaraparvan, in the dialogue between Shri Krishna and Yudhishthira, the one hundred seventy-first chapter named 'Description of the Rules for Giving a Maidservant' is concluded.
प्रपादानविधिवर्णनम् कथं देया कदा देया दाने तस्याश्च किं फलम्
Description of the rules for giving a foot-servant: How should she be given, when should she be given, and what is the fruit of that gift?
पुण्येऽह्नि विप्रकथिते ग्रहचंद्रबलान्विते
On an auspicious day, as declared by the learned, when the planets and the moon are strong,
मंडपं कारयेद्विद्वान्घनच्छायं मनोरमम्
The wise should construct a pavilion, delightful and shaded from rain clouds.
देवतायतने वापि चैत्यवृक्षतलेऽपि वा
Either in a temple or at the base of a sacred tree,
कारयेन्मंडपं भव्यं शीतवातसहं दृढम्
One should build a fine pavilion, sturdy and able to withstand cold and wind.
अकालमूलान्करकान्वस्त्रैरावेष्टितानथ
Then, they should be wrapped with untimely fruits, garlands, and cloths.
प्रपापालः प्रकर्तव्यो बहुपुत्रपरिच्छदः
A water pavilion should be constructed, furnished with many sons and attendants.
एवंविधां प्रपां कृत्वा शुभेऽह्नि विधिपूर्वकम्
Having made such a pavilion, on an auspicious day and according to prescribed rites,
ततश्चोत्सर्जयेद्विप्रान्मंत्रेणानेन मानवः
thereafter, a man should offer it to the Brahmins with this mantra.
अस्याः प्रदानात्पितरस्तृप्यंतु च पितामहाः 4.172.
By this gift, may the fathers and grandfathers be satisfied.
त्रिपक्षं वा महाराज जीवानां जीवनं परम्
For three fortnights, O great king, it is the supreme sustenance for living beings.
प्रदद्यादप्रतिहतं मुखं चानवलोकयन्
He should give it without obstruction, not looking at the recipient's face.
अनेन विधिना यस्तु ग्रीष्मोष्मशोषनाशनम्
Whoever, by this method, removes the suffering of summer heat and thirst,
सर्वतीर्थेषु यत्पुण्यं सर्वदानेषु यत्फलम्
the merit gained at all sacred waters, and the fruit of all gifts,
पूर्णचंद्रप्रतीकाशं विमानं सोधिरुह्य च
he, ascending a celestial chariot shining like the full moon,
विंशत्कोट्यो हि वर्षाणां यक्षगन्धर्वसेवितः
served by Yakshas and Gandharvas, enjoys for twenty crore years.
ततः परं पदं याति पुनरावृत्तिदुर्लभम् १७४ प्रत्यहं धर्मघटकः कर्पटावेष्टिताननः
Thereafter, he attains the supreme state, difficult to return from; every day, the dharmaghaṭa is to be given, with the face wrapped in a cloth.
तस्यैवोद्यापनं कार्यं मासिमासि नरोत्तम
Its renewal should be performed every month, O best of men.
उद्दिश्य शंकरं विष्णुं ब्रह्माणं कुरुनन्दन 4.172.
Addressing Śaṅkara, Viṣṇu, and Brahmā, O descendant of Kuru,
एष धर्मघटो दत्तो ब्रह्मविष्णुशिवात्मकः
This dharmaghaṭa is given, embodying Brahmā, Viṣṇu, and Śiva.
(इति धर्मघटदानमंत्रः) अनेन विधिना यस्तु धर्मकुंभं प्रयच्छति
(Thus is the mantra for giving the dharmaghaṭa.) Whoever gives the dharmakuṃbha in this manner,
अश्वत्थरूपी भगवान्प्रीयतां मे जनार्दनः
May Lord Janārdana, in the form of the aśvattha tree, be pleased with me.
यः करोति तरोर्मूले सेकं मासचतुष्टयम्
Whoever waters the root of the tree for four months,
सुस्वादुशीतसलिला क्लमनाशिनी च प्रांते पुरस्य पथि पांथसमाजभूमौ
With water that is sweet and cool, dispelling fatigue, at the edge of the city, on the roadside, in a place where travelers gather.
इति श्रीभविष्ये महापुराण उत्तरपर्वणि श्रीकृष्णयुधिष्ठिरसंवादे प्रपादानविधिवर्णनंनाम द्विसप्तत्युत्तरशततमोऽध्यायः
Thus, in the glorious Bhavishya Mahapurana, in the Uttara Parva, in the dialogue between Sri Krishna and Yudhishthira, ends the one hundred and seventy-second chapter, named 'Description of the Procedure for Constructing a Resting Place.'
अग्नीष्टिकादानविधिवर्णनम् युधिष्ठिर उवाच अग्नीष्टिका कथं देया शिशिरे शीतभीरुभिः
Description of the procedure for offering the Agnishtika fire-offering.
अग्नीष्टिकामहं पार्थ कथयामि निबोध ताम्। यथा येन विधानेन सर्वसत्वसुखप्रदाम्
Yudhishthira said: How should the Agnishtika be given by those who fear the cold in winter?
