दासीदानविधिवर्णनम् भक्त्या स्नेहाच्च भवतो यत्रोक्तं केनचित्क्वचित्
Description of the rite of giving a female servant: Out of devotion and affection, wherever it is spoken by someone,
चतुर्णामाश्रमाणां हि गृहस्थः श्रेष्ठ उच्यते
Of the four stages of life, the householder is said to be the best.
पूर्णेंदुबिंबवदनाः पीनोन्नतपयोधराः
With faces like the full moon, with full and high breasts,
जामयो यत्र पूज्यंते रमन्ते तत्र देवताः
Where wives are honored, there the deities delight.
जामयो यानि गेहानि शपंत्यप्रतिपूजिताः
The houses which wives, not properly honored, curse—
अमृतस्येव कुण्डानि सुखानामिव राशयः
They are like vessels of nectar, like heaps of happiness.
श्यामा मंथरगामिन्यः पीनोन्नतपयोधराः
Dark-complexioned, slow-stepping, with full and high breasts,
अहिरण्यमदासीकमल्पान्नाज्यमगोरसम्
Without gold, without a female servant, with little food, ghee, or cow's milk—
अदण्डपाशिकं ग्राममदासीकं च यद्गृहम्
A village without a rod or noose, and a house without a female servant—
विभवाभरणा दास्यो यद्गृहं समुपासते 4.171.
The houses which female servants adorned with wealth attend—
न यत्रास्ति गृहे शौचं न सुखं व्यवहारजम्
Where there is no cleanliness in the house, there is no happiness arising from dealings.
यत्र कर्मकरी नास्ति सर्वकर्मकरी सदा
Where there is no servant who always performs all tasks,
यदेका कुरुते दासी गृहस्थेन भृता हि सा
Whatever a single maidservant does, she is maintained by the householder.
बुद्धिर्धर्माकुला यस्य तस्य चेतः किमाकुलम्
For one whose understanding is disturbed regarding righteousness, what confusion can there be in his mind?
भृत्याः सदोद्यमपरास्त्रिवर्गस्तत्र दृश्यते
Where the servants are always diligent, the three aims of life are seen there.
दानकालं प्रशंसंति संतः पर्वणि वा पुनः
The virtuous praise the time of giving, especially on festival days.
ब्राह्मणाय प्रदातव्या मंत्रेणानेन कौरव
O Kaurava, a gift should be given to a Brahmin with this mantra.
कर्मोपयोज्या भोज्या वा यथेष्टं भद्रमस्तु ते
May she be employed in work or as desired for food; may good fortune be yours.
अनुव्रज्य गृहद्वारं यावत्पश्चाद्विसर्जयेत् 4.171.
After accompanying her to the house door, one should then dismiss her.
मखे चापि महाराज प्रसिद्धे वा प्रतिश्रये
Whether in a sacrifice, O great king, or in a renowned shelter,
प्राप्यते यत्फलं पुंभिः पार्थ तत्केन वर्ण्यते
Whatever fruit is obtained by men, O Partha, who can describe it?
दासीं समीक्ष्य बहुशो गृहकर्मदक्षां यो ब्रह्मणाय कुलशीलवते ददाति
He who, seeing a maidservant skilled in household work, gives her to a Brahmin of good family and character—
इति श्रीभविष्ये महापुराण उत्तरपर्वणि श्रीकृष्णयुधिष्ठिरसंवादे दासीदानविधिवर्णनं नामैकसप्तत्युत्तरशततमोऽध्यायः
Thus, in the glorious Bhavishya Mahapurana, in the Uttaraparvan, in the dialogue between Shri Krishna and Yudhishthira, the one hundred seventy-first chapter named 'Description of the Rules for Giving a Maidservant' is concluded.
प्रपादानविधिवर्णनम् कथं देया कदा देया दाने तस्याश्च किं फलम्
Description of the rules for giving a foot-servant: How should she be given, when should she be given, and what is the fruit of that gift?
पुण्येऽह्नि विप्रकथिते ग्रहचंद्रबलान्विते
On an auspicious day, as declared by the learned, when the planets and the moon are strong,
मंडपं कारयेद्विद्वान्घनच्छायं मनोरमम्
The wise should construct a pavilion, delightful and shaded from rain clouds.
देवतायतने वापि चैत्यवृक्षतलेऽपि वा
Either in a temple or at the base of a sacred tree,
कारयेन्मंडपं भव्यं शीतवातसहं दृढम्
One should build a fine pavilion, sturdy and able to withstand cold and wind.
अकालमूलान्करकान्वस्त्रैरावेष्टितानथ
Then, they should be wrapped with untimely fruits, garlands, and cloths.
प्रपापालः प्रकर्तव्यो बहुपुत्रपरिच्छदः
A water pavilion should be constructed, furnished with many sons and attendants.
