तैर्भुक्तैरिष्टसंसिद्धैर्ब्राह्मणै रनुमोदितः 4.169.
Having been satisfied by the offerings and the food, the Brahmins gave their blessings.
ततो द्विजवरोन्मुक्तैरंबुभिः परिषिंचितः
Then, he was sprinkled with water by the foremost Brahmins who had been set free.
प्रहर्षमतुलं लेभे दृष्ट्वा तं पुरतः स्थितम्
He experienced incomparable joy upon seeing him standing before him.
साधुवादो महाञ्जातः प्रशशंसुर्धनेश्वरम्
Great praise arose, and they extolled the lord of wealth.
सहस्रभोज्यमाहात्म्यं कथितं ते युधिष्ठिर
O Yudhishthira, the glory of the thousandfold feast has been described to you.
यच्छंति येऽनुदिवसं द्विजपुंगवानामन्नं विशुद्धमनसो भृशमागतानाम्
Those who, with pure minds, daily give food to the best of Brahmins who have come with longing—
इति श्रीभविष्ये महापुराण उत्तरपर्वणि श्रीकृष्णयुधिष्ठिरसंवादे अन्नदानमाहात्म्यवर्णनं नामैकोनसप्तत्युत्तरशततमोऽध्यायः
Thus, in the glorious Bhavishya Mahapurana, in the Uttaraparva, in the dialogue between Shri Krishna and Yudhishthira, the one hundred sixty-ninth chapter named 'The Greatness of Giving Food' concludes.
स्थालीदानवर्णनम् युधिष्ठिर उवाच अन्नदानप्रसंगेन ममापि स्मृतिमागतम्
Description of the gift of the cooking pot.
अक्षद्यूतेन भगवन्धनं राज्यं च नो हृतम्
Yudhishthira said: O Lord, in the context of giving food, I too have remembered—
वनं प्रस्थापिताः सर्वे वल्कलाजिनवाससः
Through the game of dice, our wealth and kingdom were taken from us.
ज्ञात्वा वनगतानस्मान्ब्राह्मणाः संजितेंद्रियाः
We were all sent to the forest, wearing garments of bark and deer skin.
अस्मान्स्नेहात्क्लिश्यमाना दृष्ट्वा ब्राह्मणसत्तमाः
Knowing that we had gone to the forest, the Brahmins, with controlled senses—
जीवतो यस्य जीवंति विप्रा मित्राणि बांधवाः
The best of Brahmins, seeing us suffering out of affection—
अभ्यागतं सुहृद्वर्गं कुटुंबमपहाय च
Having abandoned his family and the group of friends who had come—
इत्येवमवधार्याहं तानृषीन्पुनरब्रुवम्
Having thus understood, I again spoke to those sages.
समागता मत्प्रियार्थं ज्ञानविज्ञानपारगाः
You have all assembled here for my sake, accomplished in knowledge and wisdom.
भवद्भिः सहिताः सर्वे भृत्यैर्भ्रातृभिरेव च 4.170.१
All of you, together with your attendants and brothers, are present.
मामुवाचाथ मैत्रेयः शृणु कौंतेय मद्वचः
Then Maitreya addressed me, 'Listen, son of Kunti, to my words.'
आसीत्तपोवने काचिद्ब्राह्मणी ब्रह्मचारिणी
There was once a certain brahmin woman, devoted to celibacy, living in the forest hermitage.
शौचेन तुष्टा मुनयः प्रश्रयेण दमेन च
The sages were pleased with her purity, humility, and self-control.
सा तानुवाच किं तन्मे व्रतं दानमथापि वा
She asked them, 'What vow or charity should I undertake?'
आधारभूता भूतानां बह्वपत्या पतिप्रिया
She was the support of beings, blessed with many children, and dear to her husband.
वसिष्ठस्तामुवाचाथ शृणुष्व कथयामि ते
Then Vasiṣṭha spoke to her, 'Listen, I will tell you.'
कृत्वा ताम्रमयीं स्थालीं पलानां पञ्चभिः शतैः
Make a vessel of copper, using five hundred palas in weight.
सर्वशक्तिविहीनस्तु मृन्मयीमपि कारयेत्
But if one is entirely without means, one may even make it of clay.
मुद्गतंदुलनिष्पन्नसुस्विन्नक्षिप्रपूरिताम्
Fill it with well-cooked, soft rice made from mung beans and rice grains.
धौतपार्श्वां धौतकर्णां चर्चितां चन्दनेन च 4,170.
Its sides and rim should be washed clean, and it should be anointed with sandalwood.
आदित्येऽहनि संक्रांतौ चतुर्दश्यष्टमीषु वा
On the day of the sun's transit, or on the fourteenth or eighth lunar day, this should be done.
ज्वलज्ज्वलनपार्श्वस्थैस्तंडुलैः सजलैरपि
With rice grains moistened with water, placed beside blazing fire, this offering is to be made.
त्वं सिद्धिः सिद्धिकामानां त्वं पुष्टिः पुष्टिमिच्छताम्
You are accomplishment for those who seek success; you are nourishment for those who desire strength.
