Wait for just a moment, until my child arrives.
Having spoken thus, she went home to the ascetics and celibates.
Then all the Brahmins rose, their minds filled with joy.
Merchant's son, may you live long; may your enemies perish.
Then the wicked-natured Brahmin, struck by words as hard as thunderbolts,
Seeing the fallen serpent, the lord of wealth was frightened, his eyes wide.
This child has been nourished, protected, and cherished by me.
If one is virtuous only towards benefactors, what merit is there in such virtue?
Thus, having understood this, his mind was tormented by sorrow.
Then, at dawn, he bathed in the Ganga and offered oblations to the deities.
Having been satisfied by the offerings and the food, the Brahmins gave their blessings.
Then, he was sprinkled with water by the foremost Brahmins who had been set free.
He experienced incomparable joy upon seeing him standing before him.
Great praise arose, and they extolled the lord of wealth.
O Yudhishthira, the glory of the thousandfold feast has been described to you.
Those who, with pure minds, daily give food to the best of Brahmins who have come with longing—
Thus, in the glorious Bhavishya Mahapurana, in the Uttaraparva, in the dialogue between Shri Krishna and Yudhishthira, the one hundred sixty-ninth chapter named 'The Greatness of Giving Food' concludes.
Description of the gift of the cooking pot.
Yudhishthira said: O Lord, in the context of giving food, I too have remembered—
Through the game of dice, our wealth and kingdom were taken from us.
We were all sent to the forest, wearing garments of bark and deer skin.
Knowing that we had gone to the forest, the Brahmins, with controlled senses—
The best of Brahmins, seeing us suffering out of affection—
Having abandoned his family and the group of friends who had come—
Having thus understood, I again spoke to those sages.
You have all assembled here for my sake, accomplished in knowledge and wisdom.
All of you, together with your attendants and brothers, are present.
Then Maitreya addressed me, 'Listen, son of Kunti, to my words.'
There was once a certain brahmin woman, devoted to celibacy, living in the forest hermitage.
The sages were pleased with her purity, humility, and self-control.
