एवं दत्त्वा महीं राजन्प्रहृष्टेनांतरात्मना 4.164.
Thus, having given the earth, O King, with a heart filled with joy,
भूमिदानात्परं नास्ति सुखं वामुष्मिकं महत्
There is nothing greater than the gift of land, nor any happiness in the next world that surpasses it.
यच्छंति ये द्विजवराय महीं सुकृष्टां ते यांति शक्रसदनं सुविशुद्धदेहाः
Those who give well-cultivated land to a worthy twice-born attain Indra's abode with bodies purified.
इति श्रीभविष्ये महापुराण उत्तरपर्वणि श्रीकृष्णयुधिष्ठिरसंवादे भूमिदानमाहात्म्यवर्णनंनाम चतुःषष्ट्यु त्तरशततमोऽध्यायः
Thus ends the one hundred sixty-fourth chapter, named 'The Greatness of the Gift of Land,' in the dialogue between Śrī Kṛṣṇa and Yudhiṣṭhira, in the Uttara Parva of the Śrī Bhaviṣya Mahāpurāṇa.
पृथिवीदानविधिवर्णनम् ते ह्युपार्जयितुं शक्ता दातुं पालयितुं यथा
Description of the procedure for the gift of land: They should be able to acquire, give, and protect it accordingly.
भूमिदानसमं किंचिदन्यत्कथय यादव
O Yādava, tell me if there is anything equal to the gift of land.
महीं प्रयच्छ विप्राणां तत्तुल्या सा निगद्यते
Give land to the Brāhmaṇas; that alone is declared as equal.
शृणुष्वैकमना भूत्वा महादानं नरोत्तम
Listen with focused mind, O best of men, to the great gift.
चंद्रसूर्योपरागे च जन्मर्क्षे विषुवे तथा
At the eclipse of the moon or sun, at one's birth star, and at the equinox,
अन्येष्वपि च कालेषु प्रशस्ते धनसंचये
And also at other auspicious times, when wealth has been well accumulated,
हेम्नः पलशतेनोक्ता तदर्धेनापि शक्तितः
It is prescribed as one hundred palas of gold, or half that according to ability.
कारयेत्पृथिवीं हैमीं जंबुद्वीपानुकारिणीम्
One should have a golden earth made, resembling Jambūdvīpa.
लोकपालाष्टकोपेतां ब्रह्मविश्वेशसंयुताम्
Endowed with the eight guardians of the world, joined with Brahmā and Viśveśa.
सर्वसस्यविचित्रांगीं सर्वगंधाधिवासिताम् 4.165.
With all kinds of crops and adorned with various fragrances.
दशद्वादशहस्तं च चतुर्वक्त्र सतोरणम्
Measuring ten or twelve hastas, with four sides and a gateway.
ऐशान्यां सुरसंस्थानमाग्नेय्यां कुंडमेव च
A divine seat in the northeast, and a fire-pit in the southeast.
लोकपाला ग्रहाश्चैव पूज्या माल्यविलेपनैः
The guardians of the world and the planets should be worshipped with garlands and unguents.
सालंकारा सवस्त्राश्च माल्यचंदनभूषिताः
Adorned, clothed, and decorated with garlands and sandalwood paste.
आनयेयुर्द्विजा राजन्ब्रह्मघोषपुरःसरम्
O King, the twice-born should bring it forth, preceded by the chanting of Vedic hymns.
तिलैः प्रच्छादितां वेदिं कृत्वा तत्राधिवासयेत्
Having made an altar covered with sesame seeds, he should consecrate it there.
तथाष्टौ पूर्णकलशान्समंतात्स्थापयेच्छुभान्
In the same way, he should place eight full auspicious pots all around.
अंशुकानि विचित्राणि श्रीखंडशकलानि च
He should arrange various fine cloths and pieces of sandalwood.
ततो होमावसानेषु निष्पन्ने सर्वशांतिके
Then, when the oblations are completed and all is made peaceful,
कृत्वा प्रदक्षिणं पृथ्वीं गृहीत्वा कुसुमांजलिम् 4.165.
Having circumambulated the earth and holding a handful of flowers,
नमस्ते सर्वदेवानां त्वमेव भवनं यतः
Salutations to you, the dwelling of all the gods, for from you all abodes arise.
वसु धारयसे यस्मात्सर्वसौख्यप्रदायकम्
Because you bear wealth, you bestow all happiness.
चतुर्मुखोऽपि नो गच्छेद्यस्मादंतं तवाचले
Even the four-faced one cannot reach your end, for your mountain is endless.
त्वमेव लक्ष्मीर्गोविदे शिवे गौरीति संस्थिता
You alone are Lakshmi for Govinda, Gauri for Shiva, thus established.
बुद्धिर्बृहस्पतौ ख्याता मेधा मुनिषु संस्थिता
Intellect is renowned in Brihaspati, wisdom abides among the sages.
धृतिः क्षितिः क्षमा क्षोणी पृथिवी वसुधा मही
Steadfastness, the earth, forbearance, the ground, Prithivi, Vasudha, and Mahī—these are your forms.
