पुनः क्षत्रत्वमगमन्मागधे स महीपतिः
Again, in Magadha, that king attained kshatriyahood.
जातिस्मरो बभूवासौ वेदधर्मपरायणः
He was born with memory of his past life and was devoted to Vedic righteousness.
तस्मै नृपाय स मुनिर्दत्त्वा मध्यचरित्रकम्
To that king, the sage gave the account of the middle deeds.
नृपोऽपि प्रत्यहं देवीं महालक्ष्मीं सनातनीम्
And the king, too, daily worshipped the eternal goddess Mahalakshmi.
पुण्यक्षेत्रत्वमगमन्महामायाप्रसादतः
The status of a sacred place was attained by the grace of the great Māyā.
द्वादशाब्दांतरे प्राप्तस्तद्गुरुः शक्तितत्परः 3.2.34.
After an interval of twelve years, that teacher, devoted to power, arrived.
तदा प्रादुरभूद्देवी जगदंबा सनातनी
Then the eternal Goddess, Mother of the Universe, manifested.
महानन्दी महाभागो भुक्त्वा भोगं सुरेप्सितम्
The greatly joyful and highly fortunate one enjoyed the pleasures desired by the gods.
इति ते कथिता विप्र यत्प्रोक्तं यजुषो गतिः
Thus, O Brāhmaṇa, I have told you what was declared as the path of the Yajurveda.
इत्येवं वर्णितं विप्र माहात्म्यं मुनिवर्णितम्
In this way, O Brāhmaṇa, the greatness described by the sages has been narrated.
इति श्रीभविष्ये महापुराणे प्रतिसर्गपर्वणि चतु र्युगखण्डापरपर्याये कलियुगीयेतिहाससमुच्चये चतुस्त्रिंशोऽध्यायः
Thus ends the thirty-fourth chapter in the collection of histories of the Kali age, in the section concerning the four yugas, in the Pratisarga Parva of the glorious Bhaviṣya Mahāpurāṇa.
तत्रावसन्महाप्राज्ञ उपाध्यायः पतञ्जलिः
There resided the highly wise preceptor, Patañjali.
वेदवेदांगतत्त्वज्ञो गीताशास्त्रपरायणः
He was one who knew the essence of the Vedas and their limbs, and was devoted to the teachings of the Gītā.
कदाचित्स तु शुद्धात्मा गतस्तीर्थांतरं प्रति
Once, that pure-souled one went towards another pilgrimage site.
वर्षान्ते च तदा विप्रो देवीभक्तेन निर्जितः
At the end of the rainy season, that Brāhmaṇa was then defeated by a devotee of the Goddess.
शिवायै सर्वमांगल्यै विष्णुमाये च ते नमः
Salutations to Śivā, the source of all auspiciousness, and to you, O power of Viṣṇu.
त्वमेव श्रद्धा बुद्धिस्त्वं मेधा विद्या शिवंकरी
You alone are faith; you are intellect, memory, knowledge, and the bestower of auspiciousness.
इत्युक्ते सति विप्रे तु वागुवाचाशरीरिणी
When this was said, an incorporeal voice spoke to the Brāhmaṇa.
तच्चरित्रप्रभावेण सत्यं ज्ञानमवाप्स्यसि मद्भक्त्या तेन संप्राप्तं पराजय पतञ्जले
By the power of that character, you will attain true knowledge; through my devotion, that which was obtained has brought defeat to Patañjali.
इति श्रुत्वा वचो देव्या विन्ध्यवासिनि मन्दिरम्
Hearing these words of the Goddess, he went to the temple of Vindhyavāsinī.
ज्ञानं प्रसादजं विप्रः प्राप्य विष्णुपरायणम् 3.2.35.
The Brāhmaṇa, having obtained knowledge born of grace, became devoted to Viṣṇu.
ऊर्द्ध्वपुंड्रं च तिलकं तुलसीकण्ठमालिकाम्
He wore the upright mark, the tilaka, and a garland of tulasī on his neck.
जनेजने तथा कृत्वा महाभाष्य मुदैरयत्
He performed the great commentary in every gathering, bringing joy.
इति ते कथितो विप्र जाप्यानामुत्तमो जपः
Thus, O Brahmin, I have told you about the supreme recitation among all chants.
सर्वे भद्राणि पश्यंतु मा कश्चिद्दुःखभाग्भवेत्
May all behold auspiciousness; let no one become a recipient of sorrow.
मंगलं भगवान्विष्णुर्मंगलं गरुडध्वजः
Auspicious is Lord Vishnu; auspicious is he whose banner bears Garuda.
शुचिर्यो हि नरो नित्यमितिहाससमुच्चयम्
The pure man who daily studies the collection of histories—
इति श्रीभविष्ये महापुराणे प्रतिसर्गपर्वणि चतुर्युगखण्डापरपर्याये कलियुगीयेतिहाससमुच्चये उत्तमचरितमाहात्म्ये पंचत्रिंशोऽध्यायः
Thus ends the thirty-fifth chapter in the section on the supreme character and greatness, in the collection of Kali Yuga histories, in the Pratisarga Parva of the glorious Bhavishya Mahapurana.
शतद्वादशमर्यादो द्वापरस्य समो भुवि
The rule of one hundred and twelve was equal to that of Dvapara on earth.
अस्मिन्काले महाभाग लीला भगवता कृता
At this time, O fortunate one, the Lord performed his divine play.
