एवमुच्चार्य मंत्रां ते विप्राय प्रतिपादयेत्
Reciting these mantras, one should present it to the Brahmin.
प्रदक्षिणा मही तेन कृता भवति भारत 4.155.
By this, O Bharata, the earth is circumambulated.
सर्वे रसाः सर्वमन्नं सर्वं च सचराचरम्
All juices, all food, and all that moves and does not move,
भवति दत्त्वा नृणां तु रसधेनुं न संशयः
are obtained by giving the cow of juice to people; there is no doubt.
पर्णौर्णकंबलगलां लवणाढकेन कृत्वा फलस्तनवतीमपि लावणाख्याम्
By making a cow of leaves, wool, and blankets, with a measure of salt, and even a fruit-shaped breast called 'Lavana',
इति श्रीभविष्ये महापुराण उत्तरपर्वणि श्रीकृष्णयुधिष्ठिरसंवादे लवणधेनुदानव्रतविधिवर्णनं नाम पंचपंचाशदुत्तरशततमोऽध्यायः
Thus, in the glorious Bhavishya Mahapurana, in the Uttaraparva, in the dialogue between Shri Krishna and Yudhishthira, the description of the vow and procedure for giving the salt-cow is the one hundred and fifty-fifth chapter.
सुवर्णधेनुदानव्रतवर्णनम् यां दत्त्वा सर्वपापेभ्यो मुच्यते नात्र संशयः
The description of the vow for giving the golden cow—by giving it, one is freed from all sins; there is no doubt about this.
सुरापो ब्रह्महा गोघ्नो भीरुर्भग्नव्रतोऽपि वा
Even one who drinks liquor, kills a Brahmin, kills a cow, is fearful, or has broken a vow,
मुच्यते पातकैः सर्वैर्दत्त्वा काञ्चनधेनुकाम्
is freed from all sins by giving a golden cow.
अर्द्धेन वा प्रकुर्वीत शक्त्या वा नृपसत्तम
Or, one may perform it with half, or according to one's ability, O best of kings.
विभक्ताङ्गीं सुजघनां सुमनोहरकर्णिकाम्
With divided limbs, beautiful hips, and most charming ears,
चतुर्थेन तु भागेन वत्सं तस्याः प्रकल्पयेत्
One should assign a calf to her with a fourth part.
ताम्रशृंगीं तथा कुर्याद्वैडूर्यमयकंबलाम्
One should make her with copper horns and a blanket of beryl.
कृष्णाजिने गुडप्रस्थं तत्रस्थां कारयेच्छुभाम्
On a black antelope skin, place a measure of jaggery, and establish her there auspiciously.
तथाष्टादश धान्यातपत्रोपानद्युगान्विताम्
Also, with eighteen grains, an umbrella, and a pair of sandals.
दीपकान्नादिलवणशर्कराधान्यकान्विताम् 4.156.
With lamps, food, salt, sugar, and grains included.
स्नातः प्रदक्षिणीकृत्य धेनुं सर्वाङ्गसंयुताम्
Having bathed, and circumambulating the cow, which is complete in all limbs,
त्वं सर्वदेवगणमन्दिरभूषणासि विश्वेश्वरत्रिपथगोदधिपर्वतानाम्
You are the ornament of all the temples of the gods, O Lord of the universe, of the threefold river, of the cow, and of the mountains.
लोके यथेप्सितफलार्थविधायिनी त्वामासाद्य को हि भयभाग्भवतीह मर्त्यः
In the world, you grant the desired fruits; who, upon attaining you, becomes subject to fear here among mortals?
एवमामन्त्र्य तां धेनुं विप्राय प्रतिपादयेत्
Thus, having addressed the cow, one should give her to a Brahmin.
दानकाले तु ये देवास्तीर्थानि मनवस्तथा
At the time of giving, the gods, the sacred places, and the Manus are present.
नेत्रयोः सूर्यशशिनौ जिह्वायां तु सरस्वती
In the eyes are the Sun and the Moon; on the tongue is Sarasvati.
शृंगाग्रगौ सदा चास्या देवौ रुद्रपितामहौ कुक्षौ समुद्राश्चत्वारो योनौ त्रिपथगामिनी
At the tips of the horns always dwell the deities Rudra and the Grandfather; in the belly are the four oceans, and in the womb, the river that traverses three paths.
ऋषयो रोमकूपेषु अपाने वसुधा स्थिता
The sages reside in the pores of the hair, and the earth is established in the lower part.
धर्मकामार्थमोक्षास्तु पादेषु परिसंस्थिताः
Dharma, desire, wealth, and liberation are all situated in the feet.
पृष्ठभागे स्थितो मेरुर्विष्णुः सर्वशरीरगः 4.156.
On the back is Mount Meru, and Vishnu pervades the entire body.
काञ्चनेन कृता धेनुः सर्वदेवमयी स्मृता
A cow made of gold is regarded as embodying all the gods.
कर्मभूमौ हि मर्त्यानां दानमेतत्सुदुर्लभम्
In the world of action, for mortals, this gift is exceedingly rare.
पावनं तारणं चैव कीर्तिदं शांतिदं तथा
It is purifying, liberating, brings fame, and bestows peace.
नारी वा पूज्यते देवैर्विमानवरमास्थिता
Even a woman is honored by the gods, dwelling in the best of celestial vehicles.
