The god of gods, Hṛṣīkeśa, worshipped, the creator of all beings.
Having placed a water-pot, O tiger among men, well-worshipped.
Covered with a pair of white garments, adorned with sprigs of dūrvā grass.
With priyaṅgu leaves, and a white sacred thread.
Silver joined with four, with sesame-leaf vessels in the four directions, concealed with a curd vessel, and the mouth covered with ghee and honey.
And a cow with her calf, adorned with cow dung, should be established.
Then, having duly worshipped the all-pervading, eternal Vāsudeva,
Having resolved upon the water-cow and having consecrated that pot, may the power of Soma, Indra, the Sun, and Śakti, which is in the form of a cow, be present for me.
Thus, having invoked it according to the rite, with fruit and accompanied by a calf,
Wearing white garments, peaceful, free from passion, and without envy,
Reclining on a serpent couch, glorious, adorned with the Śārṅga bow,
Having pronounced thus, he should offer that to the Brāhmaṇa as a gift to Jagannātha.
O king, having given the water-cow in this manner,

One attains incomparable bodily health and perpetual peace.
Here too, O king, is heard the story concerning the great-souled Mudgala.
That Mudgala, formerly a Brāhmaṇa sage, went to the realm of Yama.
There were blazing fires, sharp instruments, and cauldrons filled with boiling oil.
There were places of great torment, with wounds, caustic substances, and the dreadful Kumbhīpāka hell.
Then, out of compassion, those sinners attained delight.
Seeing that state, the sage beheld the region of hell.
Then, O king, Vaivasvata Yama explained it to him.
O best of twice-born, by the power of giving, all those in hell were released.
Having worshipped Jagannatha, the Lord of all, who rests upon the waters, by you,
Therefore, after your birth has passed, in your third birth, O twice-born one,
Those humans who see you, who hear you, and who meditate upon you,
For them, supreme release arises, bestowing all delight.
O best of Brahmins, there is no other cause of joy like this.
No fault, no fever, no suffering, nor fatigue arises for the twice-born.
Therefore, you go, O best of Brahmins, taking half from us.
Those by whom Krishna has been worshipped, and those who have fasted for Krishna,
