शिरः सर्वात्मने देवि देवदेवस्य पूजयेत्
O goddess, the head should be worshipped as the soul of all, the god of gods.
इन्द्रादिलोकपालानां पूजा कार्या यथाक्रमम् 4.147.
The worship of Indra and the other guardians of the worlds should be performed in due order.
पूजा गणपतेः कार्या तथा होमो विधानतः
The worship of Ganapati should be performed, as well as the fire offering according to the prescribed procedure.
पायसं घृतपूरांश्च मोदकान्पूरिकास्तथा
One should offer rice pudding, preparations made with ghee, sweet dumplings, and pastries.
देशकालोद्भवान्येव फलानि विनिवेदयेत्
Fruits that are native to the region and season should also be presented.
एतेन तु विशालाक्षि मूलमन्त्रेण दापयेत्
O wide-eyed one, these offerings should be given using the root mantra.
अभिमंत्र्य प्रयत्नेन विष्णुस्तबकवाचकैः
After carefully consecrating them with the Vishnu-stava prayers,
षोडशाथ सपत्नीकान्पूजयेच्च यथाविधि
One should worship sixteen couples according to the proper method.
विष्णुं मत्वा द्विजः पूज्यो लक्ष्मीं मत्वा च ब्राह्मणीम्
The twice-born should be honored as Vishnu, and the Brahmin women as Lakshmi.
फलानि सप्त धान्यानि भोजनं च यदीप्सितम्
Seven kinds of fruits, grains, and whatever food is desired should be given.
शय्यां सोपस्करां चैव वस्त्रेणाच्छाद्य यत्नतः
The bed, complete with its accessories, should be carefully covered with cloth.
व्रते पूर्णे च गौर्देया सर्वोपस्करसंयुता यथा कुर्यात्प्रयासेन यथा कर्ता न पश्यति ।। 4.147.
When the vow is completed, a cow should be given, furnished with all accessories, as is customary, with effort, so that the donor does not see the act.
दीपांस्तु दीपितांस्तत्र आनयेद्यज्ञमण्डपम्
Lamps that have been lit should be brought to the sacrificial pavilion.
श्रुतवाञ्छास्त्रवित्प्राज्ञः कृतसर्वाघसंक्षयः
The wise one, learned in scripture and having destroyed all sins,
सर्वकामप्रदां पश्य कांचनाख्यां पुरीमिमाम्
Behold this city called Kanchana, which grants all desires.
एवमुक्तो महाभाग पटमुन्मुच्य नेत्रयोः
Thus addressed, O fortunate one, after removing the cloth from both eyes,
दृष्ट्वा तां नगरीं देवि यजमानः समाहितः
Having seen that city, the sacrificer, O goddess, becomes focused.
अथ वा शंखमादाय पात्रालाभे तु सुन्दरि
Or else, O beautiful one, if a vessel is not available, one should take a conch.
सिद्धार्थमक्षताः पूर्वं रोचना दधि वा पुनः
First, one should place sesame, unbroken rice, saffron, or curd.
लक्ष्मीनारायणौ देवौ सर्वकामफलप्रदौ
Lakshmi and Narayana, the divine couple, bestow all desired fruits.
नारायण हृषीकेश ज्ञानज्ञेय निरंजन
O Nārāyaṇa, Hṛṣīkeśa, knower and object of knowledge, stainless one,
( इत्यर्घमंत्रः) देव्यास्त्वर्घ्यं प्रदातव्यं भक्तियुक्ते न चेतसा।।4.147.
(This is the arghya mantra.) The arghya offering should be given to the goddess with a mind full of devotion, not otherwise.
जानुभ्यामवनिं गत्वा मंत्रमेतमुदीरयेत्
Having gone down to the ground on the knees, one should recite this mantra.
पार्वत्या पूजिता लक्ष्मीः स्कंदवैश्रवणेन च
Lakṣmī is worshipped by Pārvatī, and by Skanda and Vaiśravaṇa as well.
सौभाग्यं देहि मे पुत्रान्धनं पौत्रांश्च पूजितान्
Grant me good fortune, sons, wealth, and grandsons, O worshipped one.
य एवं पुरतो दत्त्वा पूर्वोक्तविधिना तव
Whoever gives before you in the manner previously described,
गीतनृत्यविनोदेन उपाख्यानैश्च वैष्णवैः
With singing, dancing, amusements, and Vaiṣṇava stories,
उन्निद्रो जागृयाद्यस्तु शतयज्ञफलं लभेत्
Whoever remains awake and alert will obtain the fruit of a hundred sacrifices.
ब्राह्मणांश्च सपत्नीकान्परिधाप्यानुभोजयेत्
He should have Brāhmaṇas with their wives seated and fed.
दीनांधबधिरान्पंगून्सर्वांस्तान्परितोषयेत्
He should satisfy all the poor, blind, deaf, and lame.
