सहस्राक्षेण प्रथमं ततश्चैव शता युषा
First with the Sahasrākṣa hymn, and then with the Śatāyuṣa hymn.
ऋतमस्त्विति च ततः स्नापयेयुः समाहिताः
Then, with the mantra 'ṛtam astu', they should bathe him with concentration.
नमोस्तु सर्वभूतेभ्य इति मन्त्रमुदाहरन्
Reciting the mantra 'namas to sarvabhūtebhyaḥ', they should utter it.
शांतितोयेन धारां च पातयित्वा संमततः 4.143.
Then, pouring a stream of sanctified water, as is proper.
क्षितिं हिरण्यं वासांसि शयनान्यासनानि च
He should give land, gold, garments, beds, and seats.
दीनानाथविशिष्टेभ्यः श्रोत्रियेभ्यश्च दापयेत्
He should give these to the poor, the destitute, the distinguished, and to learned Brāhmaṇas.
आयुश्च लभते दीर्घं शत्रून्विजयते क्षणात्
He obtains long life and instantly conquers his enemies.
यथाशस्त्रप्रहाराणां कवचं वारणं भवेत्
Just as armor serves as protection from weapon-blows,
अहिंसकस्य दांतस्य धर्मार्जितधनस्य च
For one who is non-violent, self-controlled, and whose wealth is earned by righteousness,
अर्थान्समर्थयति वर्द्धयते च धर्मं कामं प्रसाधयति तस्य पिनष्टि पापम्
He attains and increases wealth, establishes righteousness and desire, and his sin is destroyed.
इति श्रीभविष्ये महापुराण उत्तरपर्वणि श्रीकृष्णयुधिष्ठिरसंवादे महाशांतिविधिवर्णनं नाम त्रिचत्वारिंशदुत्तरशततमोऽध्यायः
Thus, in the glorious Bhavishya Mahapurana, in the Uttara Parva, in the dialogue between Shri Krishna and Yudhishthira, the one hundred forty-third chapter, entitled 'Description of the Great Rite of Pacification,' is concluded.
गणनाथशान्तिवर्णनम् युधिष्ठिर उवाच शांतिं कथय देवेश गणनाथस्य मे विभो
Description of the Pacification of Ganapati.
यस्या आचरणेनैव सर्वारिष्टक्षयो भवेत्
O Lord of the gods, tell me of the pacification rite for Ganapati, by the performance of which all misfortunes are destroyed.
विनायकं कर्माविघ्नसिद्ध्यर्थं विनिबोधत
Hear now about Vinayaka, for the removal of obstacles and the accomplishment of works.
काषायवाससश्चैव क्रव्यादानधिरोहति
One who wears ochre garments and ascends to eat flesh—
व्रजन्नपि तथात्मानं मन्यतेनुगतं परैः
Even while going, he thinks himself followed closely by others.
तेनोपसृष्टो लभते न राज्यं राजनंदनः
He who is afflicted by that does not obtain a kingdom, O delight of kings.
आचार्यत्वं श्रोत्रियश्च न शिष्योऽध्यापनं तथा
He does not attain the status of teacher, nor does a learned Brahmin gain discipleship or the right to teach.
स्नपनं तस्य कर्तव्यं पुण्येऽह्नि विधिपूर्वकम्
For him, a ritual bathing must be performed on an auspicious day, according to prescribed rules.
सुगन्धकुंकुमालिप्तशरीरशिरसस्तथा
His body and head should be anointed with fragrant unguents and saffron.
अश्वस्थानाद्गजस्थानाद्वल्मीकात्संगमाद्ध्रदात् 4.144.
From the place of horses, from the place of elephants, from an anthill, from a confluence, or from a pond—
सहस्राक्षं शतधारमृषिणा वचनं कृतम्
The thousand-eyed one, the hundred-streamed one, the sage has spoken this statement.
भगं ते वरुणो राजा भगं सूर्यो बृहस्पतिः
May King Varuna grant you fortune, may Surya and Brihaspati grant you fortune.
यत्ते केशेषु दौर्भाग्यं सीमंते यच्च मूर्द्धनि
Whatever misfortune is in your hair, at the parting, or on the crown of your head—
स्नातस्य सार्षपं तैलं स्रुवेणौदुम्बरेण च
For one who has bathed, mustard oil should be offered with a ladle made of udumbara wood.
मितश्च समितश्चैव तथा सालकटंकटौ
With darbha grass and firewood, as well as with two wooden ladles.
नामभिर्बलिमंत्रैश्च नमस्कारसमन्वितैः
With offerings, mantras of names, and accompanied by salutations.
कृता कृतांस्तंडुलांश्च पललौदनमेव च
Cooked rice and gruel should be prepared.
पुष्पं चित्रं सुगन्धं च सुरां च त्रिविधामपि
Offer a beautiful, fragrant flower and three kinds of wine.
दूर्वां सर्वप्रपुष्पाणां दत्त्वार्घ्यं पूर्णमडलाम् 4.144.
Having given arghya with dūrvā grass and all kinds of flowers, fill the vessel completely.
