You are present in all beings, remover of all evil.
Thus is the dagger-mantra: You are created by Brahmā for the fame of action.
Grant fame, grant happiness, be the giver of victory to the king.
Thus is the golden rod-mantra: Remover of sorrow, giver of righteousness, peaceful, destroyer of all calamities.
Because these eight mighty lions are present with you, therefore, O King, you are called 'Siṃhāsana' by the learned in the Vedas.
Śiva himself abides in you; in you is Indra, lord of the gods.
Salutations to you, O universally auspicious one, bestower of good fortune, O lord of the earth.
Thus, with the Siṃhāsana mantra, with offerings of fruits, food, flowers, incense, lamps, and ointments—
On the eighth day, after performing the ritual bath in the forenoon, one should bathe.
Then, having fashioned an image of Durgā from gold, or silver, or copper, or wood, or clay, or brass, and having placed it in a beautiful spot, adorned with a splendid wooden archway, and set in the midst of a decorated house, bathed, anointed with saffron and sandalwood, adorned with fourfold garments and cloths, worshipped with flowers, and praised by many, and having pleased her with two kinds of offerings, the king himself, together with the priests, should worship the goddess with bilva leaves and this mantra: 'Jayaṃtī, Maṅgalā, Kālī, Bhadrakālī, Kapālinī.'
The amṛtodbhava tree is ever dear to the great goddess.
On that day, Durgā should be worshipped with a droṇa-measure of flowers.
Then, bowing to the sword, which crushes the pride of enemies—
Again and again bowing, one should meditate in the heart upon Śivā.
She, holding the sword aloft in her hand, terrifies the demons and is auspicious.
Then, with shouts of victory, one should recite this hymn.
O most auspicious among all auspicious ones, O Śivā, accomplisher of all aims—
Anointed with saffron and smeared with sandalwood—
Having performed such worship, O descendant of Kuru, one should keep vigil on the night of the eighth day.
Thus, having spent the night joyfully, at the beautiful dawn—
One should give a hundred, or a hundred and fifty, or half of that, as one wishes—
That should be given to the Kāpālikas, as well as to female and male servants.
Then, in the afternoon on the ninth day, she is to be placed upon a chariot.
With thousands of men, or with well-trained warriors mounted on chariots,
With heroes bearing drawn swords, with elephants stained by minerals and blood, adorned women, and children splendidly decorated,
One should offer an oblation with meat to the spirits, using this mantra.
He should cast the offering three times in all directions with a trident.
The Maruts, the Ashvins, the Rudras, the Suparnas, the serpents, the planets, the witches, Yakshas, Vetalas, Yoginis, Putanas, and Shivas—
The guardians of the directions, the protectors of the worlds, and the removers of obstacles—
May all my obstacles and sins be pacified by them; may the spirits, ghosts, and pretas become gentle, satisfied, and bring happiness.
